Rumor: Netflix streaming on PS3 teased by survey ... again photo

Another Netflix survey teasing the possibility of PlayStation 3 streaming is making the rounds. This latest questionnaire indicates that a PS3 version of Netflix Instant Streaming would require the almighty “Netflix Instant Streaming Disc” in order to work. You may remember the name of the disk; it’s often used in Netflix surveys relating to the hard drive-less Wii.

Once again, there’s no mention of disk price (it’s “available free” now) or a possible arrival date. The survey is only gauging how likely a person is to get the service and use it with a disc.

It’s hard to contain our excitement about this: we’ve wanted to stream a garbage documentary or a stinky drama on our PlayStation 3 since Netflix jumped into bed with Microsoft. Call it a jealousy, uh, thing. Let’s make this happen, Netflix.

[Thanks, Etalyx!]

No, make this happen without the disc.

The PS3 is a BD-Live player. There should be no reason that Netflix couldn't send out a disc to its subscribers that enables streaming on any BD-Live player. I doubt Netflix could do a specific PS3 version since they were money hatted by Microsoft but who knows.

I'd love for Netflix to include the PS3 in its list of media extenders, but I wouldn't be enthused at all by the deal if it requires a disc.

Make the PS3 and 360 equal in their steaming capabilities and requirements, and I'd probably choose to associate my account to the PS3 than the 360 (if I have to choose only one). Should there be a needless disc requirement to stream, I'll be sticking with the 360.

my 360 just rrod'd on me for the fourth time. I'm no ps3 fanboy but, god what a lousy piece of equipment. I went out and bought a new one because I can't go 3 weeks without netflix, why is sony so inept at listening to what consumers want? On a side note, why does my ipod work better with a 360 than my ps3?

I don't see any reason to need a disc in the ps3 unless it is an installer- anything on a disc you can run from the HD so why not make it an installable app online? If your ps3 can't get online then you can't use netflix anyways.

@WickedSwagger: Well, when you think about it, why does your iPod work in either of them at all? It's an Apple product. Sony and Apple aren't exactly chummy either.

But yeah, using an iPod with the PS3 is fucking hell. Seriously, Sony needs to do something about getting the iPod to work better with the PS3. Right now it's just ridiculous.

Um, NO! APPLE need to do some work to make their Ipod work with EVERYTHING. You're problem is that Apple riddle everything with DRM and fuck over anyone who doesn't want to use Itunes.
