Rumor: Movie composer Hans Zimmer to score Modern Warfare 2 photo

Damn, talk about a budget! If this is true, I'd love to see the final number on the budget for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

When you want to talk about the big-time composers in movies, Hans Zimmer's name is sure to come up. His music has ruled Hollywood for a long time now. He has hundreds of score credits on the biggest projects, including movies like The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Pearl Harbor, The Da Vinci Code and many more. He's won six Oscars, Six Grammys and a ton of others. If you don't know film music, just know this: Hans Zimmer is the sh*t.

So imagine our surprise when we heard the rumor that Zimmer could be scoring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The source of this rumor is Zimmer's agency, where his resume lists Modern Warfare 2 under the games section.

Of course, this is far from confirmation. We've hit up our people to get something more official, but we're expecting a firm "No Comment."

If this is true, MW2's score will likely raise the bar for game music.

I had no idea Billy Crystal was Hans Zimmer.

Even when he composes for bad movies, the music is still turns out well. My only concern is that I don't remember the CoD series having a lot of musical moments.

Harry Gregson-Williams and Stephen Barton did COD4's score, I wouldn't be surprised if they were brought back. It's cheaper.

(He does half-decent scores, but sometimes they all sound too same-y. You know what you're coming in for when you listen to a Zimmer-composed score.)

Are you sure that's not Jon Lovitz?

@Magnalon: I was going to suggest Jon Lovitz mixed with Nick Cage.

BIASED!!!! Oh, wait.. this isn't Jim's article... Where the hell am I?

On topic though, Hans Zimmer is the best film music composer around, I am listening to The Dark Knight soundtrack right now. This would indeed be awesome!

Jon Crystal Cage.

Sounds like an action hero franchise...

"Hans Zimmer" can score it.

Hans is great. The score to The Dark Knight is even better than The Dark Knight.

But will it raise the bar beyond what Super Mario Galaxy did? I thought that game had the best music ever.

Ugh. Zimmer. The only good parts to Dark Knight were written by Newton Howard. Zimmer's had a few quality scores here and there (Lion King and... Lion King), but nothing that makes me think he's "the shit."

Call of Duty has a history of awesome music, so I suppose I'll just hope that Zimmer doesn't screw it up too badly.

well, considering that harry gregson-williams composed the COD4 music, and his mentor in composing was Hans zimmer. the two of them have composed together before in 'the rock', and the "flavor" in their music is usually spot on to the drama portrayed on screen, so i don't doubt that there could be a coalition between williams and zimmer to make an epic score for modern warfare 2.

I have my doubts about this. Zimmer is rather notorious for not allowing his scores to be used in violent games. That's why you don't hear any of his music in any of the Pirates of the Caribbean games. So the chances of him actually composing music specifically for a violent game are slim to none.

If this is true, this is the actual reason everyone backed out of the Fall release window.

Hans Zimmer is the shit. End of Line.

Nah, you give him too much credit. He was awesome with Lion King, Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean but he has already gone into "John Williams" repetitive mode, which is not bad, but there's just nothing quite new from him. To be honest, CoD4's music could have NEVER come out from him.
