There are a lot of times when you hear a rumor about a single platform game going multiplatform and you brush it off as the desperate gasping of those who only own one system really wanting the other system's exclusive game. However, the talk around Mass Effect 2 coming to the PS3 seems to have some actual bite to it, especially when BioWare pretty much said they could do it if they wanted. With that in mind the fact that two separate Web sites are listing the game on PS3 has a bit more weight to it than usual.
The game has been listed as on the PS3 at both the Australian version of Game's Web site and EA's Russian site. On the sidebar there. See it? Don't worry, it took us a while as well. Now these things are usually simply stupid mistakes, but we love to fan flames like none other. What PS3 owners are going to bite here and start getting excited? If it is true one must wonder if it will land at the same time as the PC and 360 or if it will be a delayed released.

Stupid rumor.
Saint's Row, and Full Auto. Sorry man, proven wrong. And besides it's called a PC.
That said if ME2 was on PS3 I wouldn't be surprised.
Decent games going multiplat is always good news/rumours.
Neither of those games were as plot driven as ME.
I rather suspect it probably will though (just because persistent rumours often turn out to be true)... but it will likely release well after the 360 version.
clearly you missed the point of what I was saying.
PS: I'm probably the only Xbox360 owner RPG fan in the world that doesn't have a Mass Effect copy. I need it, ASAP.
Definitely did.
i was making a point about how there are 360 exclusives that have had sequels on the PS3. When did I say anything about Saint's Row or Full Auto being plot driven.
(Hint: It's between the Xbox 360 logo on the left and the Xbox Live logo on the right.)
also the logo change in the bottom right corner :)
I think the point is that it will likely be hard to jump into Mass Effect 2 without playing the fist one. It would be like watching Empire without seeing Star Wars. You could get away with playing only Ssints Row 2. The only way they would do this is if they put both games on a BluRay, like was previously mentioned.
hint: a mass effect 1 save does not exist on any ps3 harddrive.
Yeah and my point was those sequels didn't neccesarily need their originals. ME is different (theoretically, being a trilogy and all).
@natetehgreat
Wasn't ME1 360 exclusive for a while before coming to PC? Well with ME2 coming to PC day one that may explain the stamp thingy.
mass effect 1 MUST come to ps3 first if they are even considering mass effect 2 or else the mass effect series has the potential to get completely ruined because they felt like they had to cater to an audience with no mass effect history. and the chances of mass effect 1 coming to ps3 are quite slim seeing how microsoft published the first one and funded part of the development - they do have a ghostly influence over the mass effect series.
Just noticed that myself. Hmmmm....
@ Xzyliac,
Yes, though they never changed the 360 box art.
I think the bigger news is that Microsoft is not the publisher of EITHER the 360 or PC version of Mass Effect 2, in contrast to the original, which was published by Microsoft for 360 and EA for PC.
What I see as a likely string of events is for Mass Effect 2 to launch on 360 and PC first, then for it (and maybe ME1) to be ported to PS3 and sold with extra content in late 2010/early 2011. I don't think EA would have trouble getting PS3 owners to buy it, especially in the US and perhaps around the world.
it's called a PC, which almost everyone who plays videogames has.
MS wouldn't give EA ME1. I was shocked when they first announced giving up on Bioware but no way would they rewrite their agreement to allow EA usage. Especially for a PS3 port.
Again if it (ME2 on 360) happened no surprises over here. Just makes perfect sense if it didn't.
All the PS3-only fanboys who hated Mass Effect because it was exclusive now RELISH the game because they actually get to play it.
Reminds me of the Tales Of Vesperia debacle.
Mass Effect 2, the second in a planned trilogy of sci-fi role-playing games from developer BioWare, will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 "for at least a short period of time," a company spokesman told the British gaming site CVG.
Expect maybe a 6-8 month exclusivity window for 360/PC and then a port to PS3 later.
official word from where?
provide a link.
CONFIRMED.
Dead rising 2. There. Now, let's see you eat your words.
I see where you're going, but completely unrelated.
Dead Rising had no story really; there's no requirement of completion to enjoy the sequel (which is in a completely different location, with a completely different character).
Mass Effect 2 will make NO sense to people who haven't beaten the first game. It's a highly unlikely move.
Because it makes use of the first game, which is published by Microsoft, so it won't ever be ported to the PS3. If ME2 was ported for the PS3, they would get a far inferior version because saves can't be used from the first game.
This rumor needs to die....the only thing PS3 will get is Bioware's new IPs, like Dragon Age.
Initially I was going to agree with you but then I remembered this:
Microsoft published Ninja Gaiden 2, it was exclusive, then it was ported to PS3 as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with extra content.
Microsoft essentially forfeited exclusivity rights to the Mass Effect franchise when EA published the PC version—as you can see HERE, it wasn't even a GFW game—so EA could port ME1 and ME2 (and, presumably, ME3 whenever it comes out unless Microsoft publishes it) to PS3.
They'll probably hold off until late 2010/early 2011 to release it for PS3 to avoid being overshadowed by FFXIII. I think the question now is when, not if.
Can't argue with that. Guess we'll see.
My only credit to evalute this series is that I have played BioWare's arguably best rpg series prior to it being raped on console ports. Baldur's Gate. I have to say, anyone who has played that game should know that they make very open rpgs and you don't need to play the first one to follow the plot of the second one.
ME2 is probably going to have a prologue summarizing the entire first game anyways. I would have agreed that people who played the first game would get more out of it, but to say people won't know anything that's going on in the 2nd on is going to far really.
No one has even played the 2nd game in full to make such outrageous claims.
That said, I'm not suprised at all by this. Even amazon.com has stated forever that if you bought the ps3 dragon age: CE, it would come with a code for ME2. It's never been fixed to this day, and with EA at command it just seems like a case of Captain Obvious. The second case of Captain Obvious will be when ME1 is announced for ps3.
