Rumor: LittleBigPlanet getting a 'full sequel' photo

The last time anybody officially talked about a potential LittleBigPlanet 2, Media Molecule told the world that it simply wasn't happening. However, according to that hive of PS3 rumors, Official PlayStation Magazine, the user-created videogame is getting a "full sequel" sometime in the future.

Media Molecule once stated that it would "never" want to work on LittleBigPlanet 2, claiming that a sequel would be "the most counterproductive thing you could do." If this rumor is true, then it wasn't all that counterproductive, was it? One would be amazed at how easily a developer can skirt around his principles when money's involved, so let's not allow prior statements to discredit this rumor.

A BBC article once claimed that a sequel was already being developed, but didn't go into any more details. One would assume that if a sequel is indeed on the way, E3 would be the place to show it. Don't be surprised if we hear some big LBP news before this summer is over.

You believe the BBC?

Seriously?

They are likely referring to the PSP version and have not the sightest idea what they're talking about.

I really hope not. A sequel would fracture the community in a way much worse than, say, L4D2 did. They should get working on more patches, more DLC packs, and maybe some more official levels to extend the campaign, if they're of a high enough quality. But a sequel just sounds bad, I'd much rather a new IP from the talented fellows at Media Molecue...

I enjoyed the platforming of the game, but it lost it's flavor with me the longer I sat with it. It's a neat set, but I don't have the patience to churn through a hundred bad unplayable levels to only see the really truly and innovative and fun ones get deleted because they have something infringing about the design.

I'm guessing it won't be a standalone type thing, but something that is backwards compatible with older creations.

Who gives two shits about the LBP community? Most user-created content is garbage. I'd kill for a sequel.

kind of interested on where they can take the game,
would be cool if DLC from the first game was compatible

The first LittleBig Planet was a massive disappointment. Trying a thousand different shit levels for one good level isn't worth it, and even if it was, the core gameplay was nothing special. And maybe I just didn't know enough about the game going into it, but I prefer my games to be shipped completed. Other games have level editors, but this is the only game I can think of where it's basically the whole game. And the "Story" mode was an absolute joke. Which is really too bad, because aesthetically, it's one of my favorite games this console generation.

Maybe if they fix the busted gameplay and have a greater emphasis on the Story mode, the sequel could be worth checking out.

I bought LBP soon after I got my PS3, played it for a day, and haven't gone back since. It certainly is a beautiful game, but it just wasn't that fun to play, and my browsing of the user-created content didn't turn up anything of value.

To the people who were disappointed with the first game: did you play it with friends, offline? Because really, as I said before, the user-created content was not what the game was about, no matter what Media Molecule insisted. The game was at it's best when played with three other people. Offline.

I agree with T3h Kaiser. The part of this game that was delightful was playing the MM story levels with friends offline. I would like more MM levels, but I don't bother searching through the community stuff anymore.

The OCD collection really makes the game for me and the community levels didn't really have any. It then goes back to platforming, and well, there are lots of better pure platformers by far.

The tools were great, but the game was severly limited by stability issues. The Themometer peaks far too quick to make any impressive looking levels. And complex levels start to yield various errors; Materials breaking, EVERYTHING in the level literally coming unglued, inability to grab grabbable materials, etc.

I only hope they add more tools (with more options to interact with eachother) and clean up their code enough to Enable large, complicated levels. I still dink around in LBP from time to time. But far too often do i run into a problem that makes me think "if only they could have added this, or done that correctly"

If a sequel is incoming, I hope they concentrate really hard on tightening up the platforming. I didn't really enjoy the core gameplay and while the music and MM levels were fun, it could only make up for so much.

I think if there is a sequel incoming it'll be developed by Cambridge Studios who did LittleBigPlanet PSP. I spoke to some MediaMolecule guys at Eurogamer and they said that the game they're working on right now isn't LBP related.

I would like an editor the would allow you to create 3D objects then import them into LBPs 2D/2D.5 world. So if I wanted create a helicopter with spinning rotors, I could.

Also I want to mess with gravity.

Maybe it would focus on a different genre.

Honestly, how much more can they go from this game? New costumes, characters, items, and levels can be obtained through DLC. In order to make this game they essentially need to add a whole new style/premise/story of some sort to make it fresh and entertaining.
