According to some detective work on the part of the Steam community, it would appear that Left 4 Dead 2 will be one of a handful of games supporting Xbox Live's "Avatar Awards" scheme, providing 360 users with frying pans, medkits, and T-shirts for their twee little Xbox ambassadors.
Steam user Fade Guy said he dug through the game's demo code and found files relating to these awards, along with brand new commentary audio files recorded by Valve boss Gabe Newell. Here's the full list of what Fade Guy says can be unlocked:
- Unlock the Med Kit by beating all five campaigns on any skill level.
- Unlock the Frying Pan by killing 10,000 Infected.
- Unlock the Garden Gnome by rescuing Gnome Chompski.
- Unlock the Bull Shifters shirt by winning 10 games of Versus.
- Unlock the Left 4 Dead 2 shirt by winning 10 games of Scavenge.
- Unlock the Zombie Hand shirt by killing 10,000 Infected.
- Unlock the Depeche Mode shirt by rescuing Gnome Chompski.
So there you go. Of course, this is a rumor until Valve confirms it. In the meantime, look forward to possibly getting some Left 4 Dead Avatar stuff that you don't have to spend obscene amounts of Moonbucks on.
[Update: This is no longer a rumor; G4 has confirmed this with video. All awards have been confirmed except for the "Med Kit" reward. Check it out after the jump.]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm in, at any rate.
Anyway, like I said, there's been a lot of racists in the demo today. Bigots. Assholes. Also, cocks. Quite a few cases of n-word-spewing. Good luck to you dicks out there who would probably quit a session if you had to play as Coach or Rochelle. Go kill yourselves.
Also, looking forward to the achievements and avatar awards. Can't wait to display them on my alien-shaped nonsensical avatar character.
GNOME CHOMPSKI!
Almost.
I only wish they would do the same for TF2 on the Orange Box, as shitty as that version is.
Looking forward to getting Awards, especially L4D stuff. :)
DAMN
But I can see why. It's not like the Avatar is gonna turns it's back every 5 seconds to show it.
This is pretty cool, I mean, I guess you can't complain about free shit.
WOOO!
