According to a number of reports, what you are looking at are some screenshots of Sonic 4 leaked from PartnerNET and yes, that IS Dr. Robotnik in a very old school boss battle you're seeing. The new images, which we are waiting for Sega to verify, show off scenes from the leaked game footage we saw a while back. I don't care what anybody else thinks, this stuff looks damn hot.
The Sonic fanbase, well known for their Internet sleuthing, have certainly found these hard to prove fake, so but until we get verification, we can only run this as a rumor. In the meantime, all I can say is that the shots look f*cking great! Hopefully we'll get more original boss battles than this first one, but what better way to warm up to some retro-flavored Sonic with one of the most classic bosses of all time?

Honestly Sonic fans will never be happy, but what have you...
Only complaint i thin any one could make is the lack of a Sega System to play it on proper, but It's Ok because everyone (even silly iphone users) will get a taste of the fun this time.

Or I thought he said that at some point, but if not that's where my head is at. For some reason each new Sonic still gives me hope it'll be good.

When I first heard the new Sonic would go back to side scrolling, my nipples got hard and I got the excitemnet of a little kid at Xmas.
which I realize the masochist part, then the nipples and then little kid parts might be making this sound much more disturbing than I meant it.
Point is, the more leaked screens I see, the more worried I get.
Sonic side scrolling, good. Same old levels, bad.
The shots look more like a remade original Sonic instead of new levels. Again, I don't want new gameplay, but I would like new scenery, not the old stuff more detailed.
It's not out, maybe they'll prove my fears unfounded. But the screens out so far sure do look more like a remake than a sequel so far.

e-wrecked: I know what you mean, I don't want this to basically be a remake. What I'm hoping is that the first level is the only one that looks like the same old levels. Maybe it's just to fit the with the tradition of starting out on some tropical looking area?
However, you must be able to see how inconsistent these leaked pictures are. When I look at the other screen shot, I see modern cel-shading on the bad guys, Donkey Kong Country style graphics on the forground, and completely flat textures in the background.
The header has additional problems. The eggman boss battle shown is at twilight, but the lighting on Sonic and eggman is only appropriate for broad daylight (too bright); it makes them stick out far more than they should. It looks like the platform Sonic is standing on is in the background as a result, rather than the foreground.
The point is, these leaked screen shots show a game that uses at least 2 if not 3 different art styles simulatenously, none of which work well together, and which has yet to have its lighting effects completed. The result doesn't look like a finished product, and doesn't look particularly consistent. I don't think they look good, but that is a matter of opinion.
First on the subject of Robotnik/Eggman, I quote from the official page.
"But this humiliating defeat only serves to further Eggman's rage, and he has determined once and for all to rid himself of Sonic."
So balls on that front. Secondly everyone's ignoring the first image. 400 points? SOLD.
If Sonic Dimps wants to gets me excited, they should show me a new Eggmobile boss design. Show me they've still got the hang of it. Because this proves nothing. Everyone can copy/paste an old Sonic boss with improved graphics.
What's worse though, is that the boss is identical with the first boss of the Sonic The Hedgehog, which is disturbingly unimaginative. I'm glad that they went for a more conservative design in this iteration, but damn, they don't need to do a remake.
There have been strides in how to make an awesome Sonic game in 2D, and an awesome Sonic game period, but this is sticking tail between legs and rolling all of that back to the point where you might aswell be playing the old games again.
Only it looks like garbage because some idiot somewhere took "waah waah 2D waah!" from this perpetually whining bunch of people to mean we'd rather have 3D rendered, plasticy toy backgrounds that "ARE 2D SPRITES YAY!" than a nice looking game.
I'd rather play Sonic Rush 3, frankly.
I'm hoping this pic is fake. Same old Badniks I can take, same old zone is off-putting, but same old boss? Apart from the Sky Sanctuary Zone in Sonic & Knuckles, the original trilogy didn't recycle baddies/bosses/zones between games!
Also, if anyone says this is our first glimpse of Robotnik, they're wrong: He's at the end of the reveal trailer!
Either he only has 17 seconds left or this is the first boss battle in the game, which explains the throwback unoriginal fight. It's probably just gonna get you excited, then do something new.
And I actually like the graphics. The running animation is weird, but the graphics make me think New Super Sonic the Hedgehog Wii.
