If this rumor does prove true, then boy oh boy, I really look forward to RMC's GoNintendo editorials yelling at gamers when these inevitably sell less than seventy-five thousand copies. Combined.
Well, at least we can play it. Earthbound Zero, rock'n'roll!
I mean they don't look bad, but they do share a mid-realistic art style, I couldn't tell you which game was which if they only shown scenery.
But since it's been hyped so respectfully I guess they can't be awful.
Right?
The only reason I can think is that maybe they wanted to avoid competition with Zelda skyward sword
Just sayin'.
How well did Final fantasy 13 score over there?
Well I guess that's not fair but usually RPGs are well received for having a story.
However, it doesn't really matter. For many of us it wasn't about the actual games themselves, it's about the way Nintendo of America handles itself.
Where's my Last Window Nintendo? Where's my Trace Memory Wii. My wife LOVES those games yet I can't get a sequel because you're finicky?
The Last Story is a Hirunobo Takaguchi game. The man knows how to make a good game, so I have zero reservations whatsoever about The Last Story. Day one purchase for me, absolutely.
Xenoblade is an original creation of Tetsuya Takahashi, creator of the infamously bland and unfinished Xeno series (Xenogears, Xenosaga 1-3), though there's an interesting twist, here. Xenogears was, rather famously, an incomplete game (see Disc 2, all of it, and it seemed clear from the start (to me) that Xenosaga was far too overambitious for the studio, so it's no surprise that it petered out the way it did. I'm interested to see what he can do given a single game where he was actually allowed to finish it when he felt it was finished. Like The Last Story, this is absolutely a day one purchase for me.
Pandora's Tower is a little more tentative. The only thing they've done before Pandora's Tower is the fantastic Jump Super Stars/Jump Ultimate Stars games and some One Piece fighting games, so it's really hard to say one way or the other if they're going to be worth the effort. On the one hand, they know how to make a fun game but making a licensed game meant to be played in small chunks is a lot different from creating a compelling, enjoyable JRPG. Whether or not I buy this (should it be released in NA) is largely going to be a matter of what else comes out at the same time.
I think it would be pretty hard to buy an unreleased, unannounced game.
Namco owned Montlith Soft back then, under Nintendo it seems teams have a tone more time and creative liberty on their hands
Funny how no one ever mentions Soma Bringer for the DS, too, that was Monolith Soft's first game under NIntendo and has a very good mix of Chrono Trigger and Diablo gameplay.
What is it with people going on all "Derp lol these games probably suck anyway hurr" every time any of them are mentioned, like, ever? All you're doing is making yourselves look like idiots when if you did even a tiny bit of research and looked into the games' critical reception you'd see they're getting very to extremely high marks.
Or they just gave up and decided realizing their game would be better realized on a handheld, which is exactly what most JRPG developers did.
The Last Story also aims to deliver that sort of scope.
We haven't had that this generation and I want it again.
While its still a rumour I always expected NOA is planning on releasing at atleast one title and is just not saying anything to create a hype about the games. And its worked for me as I dont even have a WII atm but I plan on buying a 2nd hand console just so I can play these and a couple other PAL games.
Honestly I really don't think it was worth the negative press to be honest if it is true that they were localizing them they should have just said something. Instead of letting it appear that their take on supporting the core gamers was simply to abandon the wii.
Trust me when I say I didn't have faith in NoA and they won't be gaining much ground with me until I see an official announcement or the game is in stores.
