According to sources, tonight's mystery PS3 announcement could indeed be Killzone 3. What's more, the big news is that the game (currently one of Sony's worst kept secrets) will support 3D visuals, and full motion control for the Sony Wiimote.
The gossip states that Guerrilla Games' big shooter sequel will release this Christmas and shall be part of a huge 3D push that Sony is planning to make, despite the fact that most people don't have TVs that support it. The rumor is unclear on whether or not Killzone 3 is Sony's big mystery sequel, but the rest of the information is alleged to be "rock solid."
Not entirely sure what to make of this. The whole 3D gimmickry has already gotten on my nerves, and I'm not sure I'd like to see full motion control in my Killzone 3. We shall see, however. I'm a big fan of Killzone, so I'm excited to find out more about the game. Fingers crossed that the news is good!

The comparison of Wii motion ctrl to PS3 motion ctrl is probably like comparing old 3D to new 3D technology. I am positive the PS3 Arc or whatever is in a whole different ballpark than the wiimote
Oh well, I actually enjoyed KZ2, so as long as the motion controls aren't mandatory, I'll probably be picking up the sequel. Doubt I'll be spending much time with it online after Reach comes out, though.
@ViciousBoston
"The controls were fine except the scoping in."
Sure, but in a cover-based FPS (where you spend most of your time scoped in), it gets kind of annoying by like the middle of the first level...
Sony is going to push it big time; it's going to be one the PS3s highly touted features (not just gaming).
The might as well start somewhere to get the tech in the hands of early adopters, so why not Killzone which probably appeals to many of would be early adopters.
Me, Killzone wasn't that special to me. It was a good game for sure but other than graphics there was nothing that stood out. Hopefully they knock it out of the park with 3.
Also, what games are people playing where the aiming is bad on the Wii? The Conduit, Metroid Prime 3, even Call of Duty - Those were all great when it came to aiming. Not perfect, but not merritting people going batshit crazy over the concept, either.

Atleast with the controls for Killzone 2, there was an option for a non-stick sight and controls more like...that other army game. I just don't see how it'll be anything but intrusive. Much like SixAxis was kind of annoying (but atleast not wholly overused) at certain parts of Killzone 2.
Also, I'd prefer if this 3D motion controlling garbage wasn't mandatory. If I can turn it off, then I shall remain a satisfied costumer.
I'm not really a fan of motion control, hopefully it's optional. Besides, I loved the controls in K2. They actually had some weight to them.
I, for one, am not complaining just because the controls weren't exactly like [insert game here] (or whatever the common misconception is), but rather that it was way harder than it should have been to simultaneously press all the buttons required to crouch behind cover, zoom, aim, and fire your weapon. For a game that encourages/forces you to use both the cover system and the iron sights (which I am fine with), they really should have just allowed you to lock into cover. (And yes, I know control options were better for multiplayer, but my beef is with single player.)
I certainly didn't feel that it was game breaking by any means, it was just really fucking annoying when it clearly didn't have to be. (This is about the time someone should link to Jim's "fans need to STFU" blog...)
Either way, as a consumer, it is my right to complain. I paid $60 of my hard-earned money for their product, and if I am in any way unsatisfied, the developer owes it to me customers to listen.
They should just feel lucky I'm not complaining with my wallet...
Anyway, regardless of what happens with the default controls in Killzone 3, GG (as well as pretty much every other console-only developer on the planet) should really allow more controller customization options in their games. Why? Because not everybody plays games the same way, and we shouldn't be forced too. If it increases my enjoyment of their game to be able to remap controls, it's to their benefit to let me do so.
Besides, it can't be that hard. PC developers have been doing it since the dawn of Wolfenstein.
Drrrrrrrrrr...
One of the things I dislike about 3D is when you've got out of focus objects sticking out in the foreground, drawing attention to themselves. Putting that it Killzone would make me want to rip my character's arms off.
I think you need to look at the bigger picture. You think Guerrilla Games needs to listen to you (which wouldn't be such a bad thing, since you're not one the mindless complainers I was referring to). However I didn't have any problems with the controls, in fact, I like them. So if they'd listen to you, they could ruin the game for me. Then it's my turn to complain and they will have to listen to me. Do that with the owners of all the 2.21m copies sold and hell will break loose. And I'm not even talking about the people who haven't even touched, seen or played the game but still are complaining.
That's what I meant with my comment. A game will never ever be 100% suited to your personal taste. Gamers nowadays are complaining about everything. Even though the game in question got a damn solid score. Let's say a 9 which Dtoid gave it if I recall correctly. Gamers will keep complaining about the 1 point it didn't get. That one point might be the thing you want Guerrilla Games to change. We can stick to talking about that and whine away OR we would talk about the other 9 points it got.
I'm not talking about being critical. Everybody can have their opinion on something but when stating an opinions people should keep in mind that there are also other opinions. Saying "I would love to have some more controller customization options" is something completely different than "Fix the controls, they suck". The latter happens too often nowadays. People think they're the only one who play a certain game and therefore devs should listen to them and them alone.
Sure, if you don't like the game you should let your wallet speak. Nobody is forcing you to buy the game, just as nobody is forcing you to like the game. You can even check it out beforehand. The Demo had the exact same controls as the full game (well, before they patched in even more customization options that is). So saying you've got the right to complain because you paid 60 bucks sounds weird to me.
And to be honest, I changed the controls to match all my other FPS's because there are controller customization options in Killzone 2.
Good points.
However, I still think if console developers started allowing full controller customization like PC developers do, we'll have the best of both worlds, no?
Thanks, yeah, I do agree that would be rather nice.
