Rumor: Killzone 3 in development for 2010 release photo

The Official PlayStation Magazine has dropped a huge rumorbomb on the astonished heads of PS3 fans, naming Killzone 3 as one of its "secret games of 2010." According to the magazine, a sequel to Guerrilla's excellent first-person-shooter is already "deep in development," and should be ready for next year.

The magazine also alleges that Resistance 3 is on the cards in 2010, and that Treyarch has recently mentioned development of a Call of Duty: World at War sequel, continuing Treyarch's commitment to copying everything Infinity Ward ever does, ever.  

Going back to Killzone 3, I would say that a sequel so soon is very plausible indeed. While Killzone 2 took almost half a decade to develop, now that Guerrilla has an engine and a full multiplayer structure, it should take a reduced effort to bash out a follow-up. Killzone 2 is still my top shooter of the year so far, so I'd be more than happy to start plugging the Helghast with bullets once again. How about you?

Wait, didn't this game come out THIS YEAR? They are sequeling it already?
I want to know: is the online community still active? If not, then maybe a revival will be a good idea. If not...this is really oversaturation. Let's boycott it, like Left 4 Dead 2!
Kidding aside, this seems a little soon for me. You gotta let these online shooters stew for a while, you know? Let people play and get entrenched and THEN release a new one. Halo did that right, as did COD with regard to Modern Warfare. From what I've played of this game it's really fantastic; they should just keep supporting it with maps until the community really WANTS more, then release the 3rd one.
Just my ten cents. Same goes for Resistance 2.
Again, I don't own a PS3...are people still playing these games actively online?

Yeah, I'd be down for this.

Aside from actually being interested in where the single player story goes from where it ended, I could see expanding multiplayer to say... have vehicles.. or something... would be a fun addition. Or more of the same at new maps. Whatever. I can dig it.

I'm with you on this, Jim - KZ2 was my favorite shooter this year. Now that they have an incredibly good engine in place, I would love to see a focus on writing and art direction.

Killzone has always been style over substance for me, so I'm not expecting much from a third. Though I'd be interested to see if the hype for a third game would rival the rabid levels of daftness that came with Killzone 2.

Hopefully it won't be just a generic shooter with nice graphics like KZ2 is. Basically "Call of Duty" in the future except Call of Duty was much better. At least Uncharted 2 has great gameplay to go with its graphics.

I completely forgot that Killzone 2 came out this year. Seems like ages ago now. But I will be there to purchase KZ3 on day one. The multiplayer is solid and still great fun.

I'd love to see Killzone 3 next year. That would be fantastic. Farfetched at first thought, but then I think... Do they even need to bother improving the engine/graphics at all? I mean really it looks so fantastic it needs very little work. All the work could be just developing a story and levels. You know, I'd still love that. Sign me up.

Assuming an mid-2010 release it will be just in time for when my Xbox Live runs out, which also coincides with when I'll have enough to buy a PS3, which is handy.

I thought Killzone 2 was a good game, but Halo ODST is my shooter of the year so far. However, we all know in November that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will take win the FPS of the year title hands down. A Killzone 3 in 2010 doesn't sound like a bad idea. I have no strong attachment to Killzone 2 since I never got into the online multiplayer. After I beat the single player campaign I never played it again, so I'll probably rent Killzone 3 to see if a should purchase it or not. But I think it's good to see that a good number of exclusives are being released for the PS3.

I thought that movie poster thing pointed to a 2011 release for Resistance 3? 2010 seems a bit soon for Killzone 3 to release too. Either way it would be a big mistake on Sony's part to release both games in 2010 or at any point too close to each other. Also, what if KZ3 and Halo Reach come out at the same time? You would need a fallout shelter to escape the ensuing fanboy war.

I'd be down for KZ3. I really enjoyed KZ2 and the multiplayer is a blast. I just hope that for the sequel they take a different approach when it comes to the art direction. The whole "realism is brown and grey" color scheme is getting old.

If this is true, I will literally shit my pants every time I think about it. I've logged way over 200 hours into the MP of KZ2, and I'm still going strong.

This game's online setup is simply a dream (with a few blemishes of course, but that's why I'm so excited about the sequel). I seriously doubt that it'll end up releasing in 2010 because of Resistance 3, but certainly early-mid 2011.

Killzone 3? Really? Killzone 2 was awful. Or at the best super generic. I spent the whole game waiting for something interesting or cool to happen.

Nothing ever did. The multiplayer brought some never before seen ideas to the table though. I'll give it that. But to be honest I couldn't enjoy those shit controls.

Hope they fix the worst shooting mechanic to ever grace a FPS. WORST aiming system ever. I want my bullets to go where I am and not random. Sure have some recoil.. but to have "randomness" on top of that is just horrible. I wanted to like this game, but I couldnt' even finish it. The shooting mechanics were nothing but frustrating.

If the next game meant a higher level of polish on gameplay mechanics and balancing, and a control scheme which worked without 4 months worth of patches being required to finally get acceptable aiming into place, then yeah, sign me up.

I don't find it encouraging that all the new multiplayer map packs weren't exactly up to par with the initial levels.

They said they were gonna use the same engine in their next game so it isn't impossible, till this day very few things are as detailed as K2 so its not a bad thing.

All I know is this means 1 thing, Alpha vs beta part 2.

Loved KZ2, would definitely buy KZ3.

Almost feel kind of bad for the developers, though. They worked their ass off on Killzone 2 for a LONG time, and probably got right back into it after their third MP pack.

At least the tools are finished and they're used to working with them now.

I'm presuming that most of the development cycle was the engine's development. Now that's done, they COULD churn out a sequel every year for forever.
However, Killzone 2 was pretty damn good, so we'll have to see.
