A new report has revealed that Dead Space protagonist Isaac Clarke is going to be even less sane than usual in the not-quite-confirmed Dead Space 3. He's getting a new personality, while keeping the old one, and his two halves aren't going to be friends.
Isaac's secondary personality, currently referred to as Shadow Isaac, is going to be an unpleasant chap who revels in reminding Isaac about his failures. He'll appear as a secondary character, and will engage in a number of verbal jousts with the hero.
The old "split personality" premise is a hackneyed one, but it's one of my favorite tropes, so I'm quite looking forward to seeing what Visceral does. I hope it factors into the gameplay somehow, with Shadow Isaac vying for physical control. Whatever happens, I'm excited to see it. Dead Space is my jam.

Isaac, on the other hand, was a broken down husk in DS2 and I expect him to be completely wrecked in the next installment. In fact, frankly, he really needs to die in this one.
You guys know what im talking about if you have played it. If you haven't then you're just a jerk.
I think the Dark Prince in Prince Of Persia: Two Thrones is a great example: it was a nice way of dealing with the mess the was Warrior Within (tone-wise), he was a charming yet creepy character, and his presence allowed for a lot of new gameplay possibilities, and we all know that story in games truly shine when they're related to the gameplay.
I'm hoping the next Dead Space will feature something just as good (never even finished the first game, but I just know in a few years I'll go back and finish the all the games).
deadspace 2 gave me massive migranes that lasted for 2 days after only 30-45 minutes of game play ... ive never had a game do that to me or a 3ds or movie or anything of the sort
really sucked cuz i couldnt even play passed like the 2nd level so hopefully whatever it was they change it for Deadspace 3
SPOILERS! Issac is gona fight space alien zombie creatures and be insane
psh dumbass
thats like crying NO SPOILERS! for someone telling you there were going to be zombies in the original resident evil
Wow, that's weird. Only that one game. How come?
Also they should really consider dropping Isaac for a game and truly revisiting the Extraction crew for a longer time span.
DUDE SPOILERS
Issac has twice survived encounters with a deadly race of space zombies that have wiped out hundreds of people, twice destroyed the giant alien device which created the things, and twice been misled by the device's hallucinations into aiding it's machinations before learning the truth. He's pretty much realised that this whole thing is happening because his government is run by religious morons who think the Marker is their salvation. And at the end of the second game he confronted the Marker, the very part of it that had infected his brain, fooling him with images of his girlfriend, told it to fuck off, and literally shot it out of his mind.
And after all that, we're meant to believe that he's going even more insane, to the point that he now has a split personality who likes to remind him of his failures? Boy, Evil Issac's going to get bored of that very quickly, since Issac is probably the only person who's actually achieved a small measure of success in this whole game (if not being killed of mutated is considered success.) If anything, Issac should be even stronger mentally.
And a snarky version of your main character constantly popping up to insult you? Not scary. And how is this any different from Nicole bossing him around?
I'm not saying Issac should be completely sane, he should still be affected by what he's seen and experienced. But this sounds like a lazy excuse to give Issac depth and to make his psychosis seem fresh.
Plus the idea of two Issacs just reeks of 'way to implement Co-Op mode'.

They already have my money.
Love Dead Space, one of the coolest new franchises in years.
Even if he can't swim.
So they could be tapping into something special here, whether that will be enough... I'm not so sure.
The thing is, if Visceral are intending to follow a loose template of Aliens (like they mentioned in many interviews) Issac should be more like Ripley in Alien3. It's the logical step forward; experienced, callous, ruthless, with a renewed purpose and nothing to lose.
Of course, that worked for Ripley, but considering how ham-fisted videogames can be when it comes to complex characterisation, they would run the chance of turning Issac into an unlikable dick.
There's really no need for another plot device to convey how Issac feels, while isolating him from the supporting cast, but hey ho, it's easier that way.
Only..."Shadow Isaac"? Please tell me this is not final...it'll be better if there's a different name for this persona
And I agree with Tristix, I think they should close it, and this trilogy, out with him dying. Anything else would appear WAY to sun-shiny. They could always extend the series by making a new protagonist on the other side of the universe (or even using someone Isaac's met in these games).
@Rammstein
It says RUMOR in the title. The game hasn't even been announced. No matter how much we know there'll be a next game no one but Visceral has any idea of how it's going to go right now, and they might not even be 100% on that yet. Theres no spoilers to be had and rumors ALWAYS need to be taken with a grain of salt.
