Rumor: inFAMOUS 2 will have online multiplayer photo

Cheeky job listings are a good way to find out about sequels and multiplayer, apparently. Hot off the heels of Dead Space 2's multiplayer mode being (allegedly) revealed, yet another job listing has mentioned an "online component" for what is most likely Sucker Punch's inFAMOUS 2.

"We are evaluating focused, easy to work with, and professional candidates to implement the on-line component for our forthcoming AAA title," states the job listing. "Building on-line components of video games is a major plus."

Sucker Punch does not say that the game is inFAMOUS 2, but I don't know of any other "AAA titles" on the PlayStation 3 by this studio. We already know it's in development, given that Sony clearly wants a franchise out of it, not to mention the voice actor Tweeting we caught a few months back.

Still, what's with single-player games cramming multiplayer into their sequels? BioShock, Dead Space and now inFAMOUS? We really don't need that many multiplayer games, guys. Let's not spread players too thin!

I wonder if Prototype 2 will have online multiplayer. I BET IT WILL BE BETTER!

So, I guess this does indeed means that every new franchise made in this decade must have a sequel with tacked on multiplayer.

Adding a pile of shit onto an existing pile of shit still nets you a pile of shit.

Good I loved Infamous, even though BIAS Jim had to put a rain on my parade with his score of 6.5.... Just kidding. I hope they expand on the Single player if so the sequel will be even better, I really cant wait to see more! This reminds me, I need to beat the game a second time on EVIL!

Why this constant forcing of multiplayer into singleplayer games? I mean, I get that it adds another bullet point on the box, but it rarely ever makes a good multiplayer game and it does take resources from the main game.

I loved Infamous, despite it having (in my opinion) horrible graphics. Can't wait for the sequel.

Hey now Jim, if the multiplayer is good, then I don't see the problem with adding it. If it sucks, well...who cares right?

Also, how about some neutral karmic choices instead of helping old ladies cross the street or raping puppies?

Unfortunately it's down to the increasing amount of entitled dipshits who believe a single-player-only game is worth at most a rent, or a buy and a trade in a week later.

Personally I prefer single-player, but a few games have done it exceedingly well: GTA4, Uncharted 2, etc.

I understand the concern about Multi "taking" resources from the single, but a good developer:
a) Won't let that happen, it's a waste of time making two halves of a game.
b) Know that with multiplayer comes a larger audience (and more money with it).

Good luck to them - I loved the first one, It would be my GOTY candidate were it not for Uncharted 2.

I think this has potential. Everyone first questioned Uncharted's multiplayer at first until they got their hands on it. Infamous to me controlled like a superpowered Uncharted. So the idea of a multiplayer inFAMOUS has me excited. It really does have potential I think.

This is annoyingly accurate. At least Assassins Creed managaed to avoid it.

For now.

Review of a great SP game without MP:
"It's a great game, but it's sad that there's really nothing to come back to after the 5-10 hours of playtime. With MP being as common as it is, it would have helped a lot."

Review of a great SP game with shit and tacked-on MP:
"It's a great game, but in comparison to the sublime SP, the shallow and boring MP sucks a big fat cocksicle."

So, what?

So nothing. Which is why I don't get everybodies whining about multiplayer. Who gives a shit? If it's a good game it'll be a good game. You can't link a poor single player campaign to a poor multiplayer campaign and vice versa. Hell even the devs can't do that.

by "erm. Brink" I meant, "could it be that the job posting was not for inFamous 2, but indeed Brink which is one of Sucker Punch's current AAA titles in development that happens to be multiplayer focused?"

They just say "forthcoming AAA title", that could mean Sly Cooper or a new IP altogether.

@ Sound of Victory: Brink is being developed by Splash Damage, not Sucker Punch.

Why? It was fine the way it was. Gravel voice and all. I hate when they tack on Multiplayer. When did Sucker Punch Studios give a shit about multiplayer? Well, do whatever, because I don't give a sh*t about multiplayer in an obviously singer player game.

If some other studio does it like Bioshock 2 did then the single player won't be affected. Hopefully they do manage to do what Naughty Dog did since these guys are like always head to head.

I'm just trying to imagine how the powers will be distributed if they do this. Cole vs. an army of gun-toting goons can be fun (as evidenced in the first game), but playing as those gun-toting lackies wouldn't be. There's psychokinetic powers, pyrokinetic powers, health regeneration, force blasts, superspeed - they have a lot to play with. But doing it without creating a X-Men clones won't be easy. I wouldn't care if they did this, but the world's comic book fanboys might soil their Superman underoos.

I'm pretty sure multiplayer in Infamous 2 would be done right. It wouldn't be like Bioshock 2 where they're simply using the Call Of Duty servers. Uncharted 2 did it extremely well. Besides Sucker Punch is a 2nd Party Dev under Sony and Sony does support their 2nd party guys really well. If they did the multiplayer in somewhat of a Demon's Souls fashion where you can have your world invaded by someone of the opposite faction and have a territory fight (good vs. evil) then it may be interesting as long as there wasn't too many players and the city is larger in the sequel. Or maybe they could do what they tried in Fable 2 except do it well.

Oh... really. Is that what it was missing? Multi-Player? Infamous wasn't most excellent the way it was? Is that what was missing from Sly Cooper too? Multi-player, like everyone else and their dog? Well... I guess. If, "online components for video games is a major plus", then I guess it's good. I guess. I mean, if it's a plus --- and not at all a complete waste of developer man power, to tack-on a useless Multi-player feature for a SINGLE PLAYER ADVENTURE, just because "it's a big plus", then I guess that's good. I guess.

some games are meant to be single player... please don't ruin the game by lessening the single player component and trying to make the multiplayer component big.
