It appears that, with the launch of PlayStation Plus, Sony may be taking a sh*t-stained leaf out of Microsoft's playbook. According to Hulu's website, the console-bound version of the TV streaming service will require a PS Plus subscription.
What this means, obviously, is that Hulu on the PS3 will cost you $49.99 per year as well as the required $9.99 a month. Microsoft has already confirmed that Hulu Plus will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription, but we expect that kind of "take features away rather than add cool features" mentality from Microsoft, not so much from Sony.
This is the kind of industry we've all helped make, though. Having to pay a subscription fee for the honor of paying another subscription fee strikes me as completely ludicrous, but we gamers have demonstrated to Sony and Microsoft just how tolerant we are of ludicrous behavior in the past, so don't expect things to change. You can, in fact, expect any cool new PS3 features to demand PS Plus access in the future. But hey, at least you'll get the free rental of an old PSOne Classic that nobody wants because it's crap!

Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Everything in psn+ is optional. You dont need to pay $50 a year (technically 15 months) to play online, or get demos, or buy games.
You dont need a hulu subscription. Not when Hulu is free online, or you could just go to any number of streaming sites not realated to hulu.
I'm not sure what all the hubbub is about. I mean, I know the first month isnt all that super awesome, but its still only $50 a year, for added GOOD bonuses.
So I guessing *36O owners get this for freeish with Xbl? :D"
HELL NO. You'll get to pay for it by paying for XBL.
----------------------
There's a big difference between paying for OPTIONAL features vs paying for ESSENTIAL features. Thing is, MS don't consider Online gaming essential - do you?
By paying for XBL the millions of Live subscribers have CREATED THIS SITUATION where it's become commonplace to charge a recurring fee for the use of "non-essential" services. If you pay for Live, this is YOUR FAULT.
Although this doesn't bother me at all because there is slim to no chance that Hulu will come to Europe anyhow.
Still a dick move if true none the less.
Also blaming xbox fanboys is retarded. Xbox live is not the first subscription based service
"Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service."
That said I still don't plan to pay Sony a subscription ever because of fw 3.21 they really pissed me off heck I bought a 360 (already have a wii) because I Was so pissed for taking a feature I actualy used and used a lot. Assholes
besides those free games or discounts with plus aren't usable if you were to cancle or your membersip is up.
You get what you pay for. XBL is better BECAUSE YOU PAY FOR IT.
You have got to be mentally retarded if you think, " yea all those developers, IT guys, and servers should be free!" look at the whole picture jackasses. Office space, man hours, etc etc. Can you imagine how much that costs? It costs more to keep a game online then you will probably make in your lifetime, partly because you can't see more then 5 inches past your nose, most likely because you're just an idiot.
Just unfortunately noticing your asinine opinions more and more lately. Sadly, it appears as though you believe what you say, but I guess apparently even mentally disabled people need a blog to comment on. First one I noticed was how you're waiting for FFIV to illustrate how the 360 gimped the PS3 version of FFIII, and now it's that live gold members took our jobs. Cute.

@xxtwelvefiftyone you are no better than the rest of us so STFU! It would be a miracle and a half if Sony deducted the money for Hulu from the PSN+ subscription fee and they wouldn't because then they would owe their customers money, now how stupid is it to think that a company looking to make money would put itself in such a position to where it would owe its customers money?
The idea of blaming Microsoft for "inventing" the practice of charging-for-a-service-when-you-can-get-a-similar-service-for-free-elsewhere is about as ridiculous as blaming a cable company for making you pay to watch HBO when you can get CBS for free over an antenna.
When Live first came on the scene, the only other option was the bare-bones (at the time) "Playstation Network" (or whatever you choose to call the PS2's limited online capabilities back in 2002), which wasn't even comparable. So yeah, Live used to cost and still costs money and I wish it didn't, but if it weren't for Microsoft's influence over the last eight years, online play over home consoles simply wouldn't be what it is today.
Maybe you should "blame" them for that, too.
I missed you!
*goes back to playing demon's souls*
You write something which isn't true. Then you say you know it's not true. Why did you write it in the first place then? You don't have to tell Xbox fanboys anything. Just like they don't have to tell PS3 fanboys anything. In fact I think every needs to shut up and just enjoy their games.
Your reasons are full of fail:
Outdated hardware and software: Is that why Bayonetta runs so well on PS3? Oh...wait...it doesn't. And here we are 4 years into the ps3 life cycle and Sony is STILL adding features that the 360 had on day 1 and they don't even have them all yet.
Lack of Blu ray: Who cares? I have yet to see a ps3 game that looks better than Gears of War and digital download is the way of the future; MS was way ahead of the game on this one. Blu ray was/is an unnecessary and ultimately useless physical media that was obsolete before it even hit the market.
Monopolize the game industry: How exactly?
Brain washing "fools" to buy 5 xboxes: Yes, anyone that bought 5 xboxes is indeed a fool since the console is repaired for free ($ony charges over $100 to fix a ps3). There is no need to buy even one extra xbox.
The only thing MS has done since entering the gaming space is innovate the shit out of it. Without MS, gaming today would be about 10 years behind where it currently is.
What part of NOTHING WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM VANILLA PSN do you not understand?
PSN+ is just added features and bonuses if you want to pay for them. Its not like microsoft forcing you to pay if you want to play online, and then trickling in little extra free features to make it look like its worth the money.
Bayonetta was patched... and it was ported over by sega. Its not the hardware, its the developer... In this day and age, do I even really need to remind you?
And here we are 4 years into the ps3 life cycle and Sony is STILL adding features that the 360 had on day 1 and they don't even have them all yet.
Like paying a subscription fee of $40+ a year to be able to use my game to the fullest and still be bombarded with ads on every screen... like those features?
But I will give you cross game chat.
Except its not. Blurays can hold much more information on a disc than standard dvd's. Audio can run uncompressed. The only downside to bluray is the long loading times, but if you cant wait another 30seconds, maybe you should be doing somthing else. Digital Distribution isnt the way of the future... but your reasoning is still odd, because sony offers dd on a lot of content.
Monopolize the game industry: How exactly?
By banning 3rd party everythings. Memory Cards, Blue tooth headsets, proprietary HDD which cost literally 150% more than they should. Just recently they added USB HDD support, but only up to 32gb.
Brain washing "fools" to buy 5 xboxes: Yes, anyone that bought 5 xboxes is indeed a fool since the console is repaired for free ($ony charges over $100 to fix a ps3). There is no need to buy even one extra xbox.
Um... the 360 console has a 60+% failure rate. They do offer the 3 year on 3RROD ONLY. Everything else is a year. To put it into perspective, my Atari 2600 from 1978 still works, yet my xbox360 has broke 3 times already in the 3 years I have had it. The failure rate on the PS3 is about 12%. Still high, but not 60% high. So if your xbox blows after your year (which seems to happen) you will indeed have to chuck $100-$150 to get it fixed.
But you must be part of the new mindset that actually thinks having a warranty that you have to use is a good thing.
The only thing MS has done since entering the gaming space is innovate the shit out of it. Without MS, gaming today would be about 10 years behind where it currently is.
I'm not sure what your problem is... maybe its the blind fanboyism or lack of proper research, but you need to sit back and relax before you take your buddies incorrect ramblings as fact.
And by the way, I have all 3 current gen systems, play them all regularly, and still feel that microsoft is screwing the pooch.
