Rumor: God of War III to feature co-op photo

Technically this rumor has been around for quite some time, but there's some new evidence that God of War III is going to have online co-op in it. Nick McCandless, from The Gamer Access, played the GoW III demo and loved it so much he desperately needed more info on the game. He thus logged onto Sony's Retail Loyalty Site, where those in retail can learn about Sony products by taking a quiz. There he found a very interesting question: "Will God of War III have online cooperative modes?" The answer was yes.

Before we all get really excited or really disappointed (depending on what you think of GoW co-op) it should be noted that Nick "has quotes from developers just laying around" Chester was told by design director Todd Papy in February that multiplayer is "definitely something we're looking into. But as far as any multiplayer experience, this is a solo campaign. Kratos has never really had a buddy for the trip so ... but we are looking at downloadable content, and also Home support."

Were they lying to us? Why would they do that? We even gave them a friendship bracelet after the last time they told us things that weren't true. Seems strange that Sony would be educating retailers with false information, though. If this turns out to be true, know this: Sony has broken Mr. Destructoid's heart for the last time. He won't suffer their lies anymore, it hurts too much.

If this happens then it signals the death of the single player experiance.

Don't worry kratos! Luigi is here to help you send the undead back to the underworld!

They've already developed the single player experience. Not much to the formula really, I highly doubt that would suffer. And being as how there's been no solid announcement means that multiplayer is more of an afterthought. Look at how it turned out on Uncharted 2. Game was still sexy.

If Kratos dies 8 times, a green block appears and if you hit it, Luigi will finish the level for you.

Seeing Luigi tear a god's head off with his bare hands while standing on top of a mountain of corpses he had just created with little more than turtle shells and fireballs would be very cathartic.

Why do people seem to think that adding multiplayer to games these days (whether it's good or not) will kill the single player? I just don't get it. They're two separate things. For example I never felt the online component of the Metal Gear games hindered the solo experience (since I think that online versus + Metal Gear is just ridiculous). Just don't play multiplayer if you don't want to.

I really don't see how Co-Op will add to the story. This is KRATOS' final battle.

Oh shit. Maybe I can jump in and play as Kratos' testicles. Thus relieving much of the first players burden while still being equally menacing.

I would cry if the main story had any type of multiplayer. Multiplayer should stay where it belongs, and GOD is not that place. Though, it might be fun if there are some co-op missions like in NGS2.

Luigi in a God of War game would be epic.

This game does not need co-op. Mind you, if they've SOMEHOW figured out how to do it, then more power to em and let's hope it turns out awesome.

I'd rather play single player, but if they happened to make it work then good for whoever wants it, I guess. But personally I don't think its needed or should be there.

Co op makes anything better, it is a proven fact. Play a bad game with someone else, and the co-op factor makes it passable, if not fun. See: Too Human. I thought it was alright singleplayer, but it was actually pretty enjoyable co-op

So long as you can play the main game by yourself and this doesn't change the story simply for the sake of adding a partner, I'm fine with it.

And that's exactly what will happen, so I'm not worried.

GoW3 will be awesome.

Concentrate more on making the single player flawless and worry less about cramming several mediocre modes into the game.

So who's betting the co-op partner will be Apollo?!

Maybe it's my coffee, but that picture of Luigi jumping into the air saying, "I'ma gonna help" in a God of war setting is hilarious!
Co-op seems to be the flavor right now and justly so... It's fun playing with someone else! I'm excited about the future of co-op games, as long as single player campaigns get the same if not more attention(to detail).

I'll put this to rest right now. It has Co-op. I work for Gamestop and on the Sony retail site (Sony RLS) where you do surveys for points and cheap games the newer God of War 3 quiz states that it has co-op. Yup, co-op.

I don't think God of War needs co-op I would rather them focus on the single player
