Oh, I still hate GameStop with a burning passion. But as I said before, my desire to own this game legitimately without importing it completely overrides it.
Sadly, I don't think the game will sell as well as anyone would like to hope, even if Nintendo's following the Dark Souls method of manufacturing games. I think most people that wanted this game have either imported the UK version from somewhere else or straight-up pirated it. Hell, I was planning on importing the game at some point myself.
It is worth playing by any means necessary, and buying it from Gamestop (or directly from Nintendo) is MUCH easier than the earlier option (mod your Wii, void your warranty, import it from Europe, hope it works).
If you have a Wii, you OWE it to yourself to buy the game. Hell, I will go so far as to say Xenoblade is worth going out and getting a Wii just for that game (yeah, the game is really that fantastic). With Skyward Sword rocking up the charts in players systems, there is no excuse not keep that passion going once Xenoblade comes out.
BTW, didn't Operation Rainfall drive Xenoblade to the top of the Amazon charts? I have no idea how many orders it takes to do that, but at least a few thousand is a safe bet. If the game is a Gamestop exclusive, will these people simply not get the game despite having already paid for it?
Amazon Pre-orders are not charged until they are shipped or getting ready to ship (which is why I love Amazon),so no one got charged for the Monado preorders at Amazon,so it's just a matter of changing the preorder to either the Nintendo store next week or GameStop.
I am going with GS since I have one 2 minutes from my house.
You really can't blame anyone who imported this, seeing as how Nintendo fairly adamantly stated time and time again it wasn't going to be released in NA.
Most of the people that I have seen who imported have been chanting to little to late for weeks if not months, not yesterday/today.
All it would have taken was one press release 6 months ago to have cleared all this up. Nothing definitive just a simple general time line, early 2012, would have been fine. Instead they chose to deny any intent with delivering this game.
To the end that most of the people who were hardcore into getting this game ..... imported it...
If this game does poorly Nintendo has no one to blame but themselves... that said they will blame everyone under the sun but themselves.
Anyway, my money still went towards supporting Monolith's hard work, so I have no regrets.
I can never understand the blind hatred towards them. I like to buy videogames, gamestop sells videogames and has many convenient locations, therefore I will buy videogames at gamestop if the price is right. Gamestop has always been my first resort for used games that are no longer in production. I seriously doubt that any self-respecting game collector swears off gamestop.
I probably should have rephrased that, haha.I myself have imported many Wii games from Japan, that's not the issue. My issue is with the people that are unhappy no matter what happens, and the people that had no intentions of buying the game and just wanted an excuse to pirate it.
I myself imported Xenoblade from Europe (and Captain Rainbow from Japan...that game is fucking insane, haha) so again importing is not the issue,it's people just complaining for complainings sake and people that take the "Holier than thou" attitude when pirating.
Anyways,I'm going to buy the US copy of Xenoblade mostly because my modded Wii is a piece of crap, and it looks like this game is going to be a rare one.
This is nothing against Europe, but I can just see how it would be harder to bring a game out over there.
You're right, this definitely has all the signs of becoming super collectable! Buy an extra copy and keep it sealed if you'd like to make some nice cash one day. And hey, buying 2 copies means that you're supporting the developer twice as much, right?
People that sell their game systems are mentally deranged, or poor Mfers that should get a job or stop buying so much dope.
They not only lost sales to people who imported but those people who imported have likely modded their Wiis and have no reason to bother waiting for Last Story or Pandoras Tower..... so they have probably lost a decent number of those potential sales as well.
I'm just saying..... people should be fired...
Already did man, already did.
I think you're exaggerating the effects in your head.
I doubt that many people modded their Wiis for these games. In fact, considering the costs of importing, and the voiding of warranties, I will dare to say only a small, vocal minority bothered to do so.
Otherwise, European sales would reflect these "massive" exports.
This whole thing boils down to "Ugh why do they get "game"?! I WANT "GAME"!!!" Nintendo gives game, "NO! I WANT OTHER GAME NOW!!"
Anyone who really cared about the petition probably gave up a while back and already imported/downloaded the game. Nintendo simply waited way too long.
Heck, even some gaming sites were running guides for playing imported copies of Xenoblade (sometimes with a slight nudge/wink towards how you don't have to do much more to enable playing downloaded copies.)
One other thing to remember is that, while Xenoblade was what everyone focused on, the petition was for more than one game. There were people supporting Operation Rainfall who did not care about Xenoblade, and instead either wanted Last Story or Pandora's Tower.
DO NOT FAIL ME AMERICA, you will buy this incredible game and show NOA up for the bunch of bastards they truly are.
The pre-orders better be solid in a few months and the sales ending up well over 100,000 or you shall forever be a BUNCHA JOKERZ.
Not to mention, if this does poorly, we can forget about Reggie ever bringing anything like this over here ever again. Because he already had no interest in stuff like this, so let's continue to give him ammo to the main branch that catering to the "core" in America is a huge waste of time.
I think you are missing the point... No the people who modded don't represent a majority of the people who will eventually buy this game. What they did represent are guaranteed sales that have been lost, possibly irrecoverably so.
Now they have a modded Wii.... oh no it voids a warranty that has probably already expired, its not like its rocket science or requires any hardware modding, on the cheapest console on the market. And NOA did sorta shoot them the bird and say these games would never happen.
Now they have the option of waiting a year for NOA to mull over the EU sales to possibly get around to maybe delivering the games, the whole time likely pulling the same schtick they did with Xenoblade... "oh we have no plans" or "if the EU sales..."
Or just paying a bit extra and having the game in their hand a few weeks after the EU launch.....
Lets see play the game now or get strung along for a year over a potential ...
An irrecoverably lost transaction is an irrecoverably lost transaction.
the shitty gamestop or nintendo world store in NYC which takes up alot of time just by going there and i have to pick it up by next year.
god damn it why no amazon option??
