Rumor: Final Fantasy XIV may get beta in September photo

Square Enix surprised us with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV at E3 this year. The MMORPG came out of nowhere, so I'm also surprised that we might have a chance to try it out in a matter of months. Well, if the rumors are right, that is.

A recently added job posting over at Square Enix asks for game testers and game masters, with Final Fantasy XI experience being a requirement. The game masters would have to be able to start by September, which Joystiq thinks may be a possible start date for a beta test. Things look more positive when you realize that the game has been in development for five years, and that Square Enix has said that they want the game to have a beta period longer than FFXI's four months.

This isn't the most solid rumor, but it does point to something going on in the MMO space at Square Enix. I hope it's true and that they put me on the "list."

I highly doubt that a beta for this would start in September. It seems much too soon for such a thing, so I refuse to believe this.

@JLanphear 5years to soon? Honestly beta seems a little late not early. I'll let you suckers know what betas like though.

Also it does seem to be around the date in question. As they have job listings for all the territories for language. Which about 5 months is a good estimate. Also you don't hire GMs for alpha.

I beta tested XI. I'll gladly beta test this. It might prove problematic with my school transfer, but hey... it'll be free.

Joystiq is late to the party lol. I made a cblog on this at least a week ago. :P

But totally excited. It's definitely possible that the beta could be out in September. Square has said they hope to make a beta announcement soon.

Here's to high hopes! :)

I hope it has the same mechanics as FFXII (or something more like kingdom hearts would be better..... HEY a kingdom hearts MMO!! now that's actually an idea!). I really want the fights to be fluid and not stiff as most MMO's these days.

I can't wait for this. I hope it's not as casual as FFXI. Been playing that for 6 years and it's way too easy.

5 years? Wow, I wonder what they'll bring to the bland MMO table.

well xi was different then alot of stuff at the time, i imagine it will be closer to a console rpg than a button mashing wow type of mmorpg, which i think its awesome. I can't wait

Won't mind seeing this. It almost seems more a of a return to form and dropping a lot of this Futuristic/conceptual pretend to be clothes and needs to be different that the latest final fantasy's have been stuck in.

No I dont think in Fall in this year. They need at first real game testers to test it closed (with closed i mean ppl who get money for testing). and then it will take time to let some real closed beta testers on the game.
I was lucky to test FFXI for Europe (especially for the german version) and the beta test was about...mh...june..and ended in august...then the release was sep 2004. This time the beta test will take longer because they will release it worldwide at the same time. I am sure it will be only intra tested, but not public closed.

This page has some good points regarding the Final Fantasy XIV beta. Think about it, the Tokyo Game Show is happening at the same time so I bet we will actually know more after the event. I don't think Square will make such a big mistake by announcing the beta before the BIGGEST gaming event this year (well in Japan anyway):P
