I've always thought the name was stupid, but the game looks waaaaay too good(...by today's SE standards anyways) to just drop completely.
I think if Square Enix wants to get any sort of credibility back, they will just release the game as FFXV. Here's hoping you're right Holmes.
ghostlight is on there I speak to there head all the time. Ive spoken with pachter. Robert from zeboyd games who I am a big fan off, kaguri head of rpgsite ive had input on his articles. Shane from game trailers, we use it to speak all the time.
Jeremiah Slaczka posts alot, as does jaffe
Andy McNamara from game informer weve gotten into arguements
That would be the logical reasoning for cancellation if it weren't for the fact that now Squeenix allegedly wants to turn around and do a XIII-3 instead.
And Versus XIII does hold a very important thematic connection in that the game also revolved around the L'Cie.
If it is true, I fart in square's general direction for not giving their fans what they want.
I'm ready for XV, but the numbers don't lie and I wouldn't be surprised if we get XIII-3 first.
Regarding the 'TBA' on the SE webpage, you'll see the same thing for the PS3 version of The Last Remnant.

"In true internet fashion, two games that sold nearly 10 million copies..."
XIII sold less than 5 million units worldwide and XIII-2 barely sold 2 million. They are the lowest-selling mainline Final Fantasy games since FF6.
By all standards, they are among the low performers in the series.
CaimDark
tell me about it
your right

all companies say no comment.
Most dont give a crap about telling the public anything.
You cant infer anything from that
Actually the neogaf editor is more reliable because 4 or 5 of his rumors in the past have turned true
nothing kotaku says turns true
Just a few days ago more ff versus songs were put for dlc on the new ff rythm game
doesnt sound cancelled
http://uk.gamespot.com/news/report-ff-versus-xiii-development-confusion-6192720
Back in 2008 it was rumoured that Versus development was put on hiatus. Square quashed that rumour almost immediately. Yet they're dragging their feet here.
FFXIII sold around 7 million copies, you forgot the 360 version. FFIX, X-2 and XII sold considerably less. FFXIII-2 on the other hand is hovering a little above 2 million but It's still on the high end compared to the other jrpgs. Not to mention It hasn't even been out a year yet.
XIII-2 has sold around 2.5 million.
It confirms nothing. Companies say no comment all the time when they dont feel like talking either way.
The difference being, that was from a legit source.
Square ignors kotaku on instinct and doesnt say anything one way or the other like with the valkyrie profile 3 rumor
Versus has zero qualities of a main line title so would never be renamed as such
and that other thing was just a tech demo, and they said no way reflective of whatever games they are planning with it
Unfair comparison. If IX had been released for N64, and X-2 and XII for GC and Xbox, the hypothetical sales numbers of those games could have very well been higher than XIII's.
And also, so we can play more Lightning!
