I really hate how FF XIII is becoming its own franchise. I mean, it took years for that to happen to VII, and that game was regarded as a complete masterpiece. With XIII, a lot of people didn't like it, and it was remembered as one of the weaker FF games, yet less than a year later they're turning it into a franchise. Really upsetting, if you ask me.
I hope it's not. Back when they were showing XIII and Versus XIII, I felt that Versus looked more interesting and fun than regular XIII. But at the same time, it wouldn't surprise me. They haven't said much on it for a few years. So either they've been quietly developing it and it's near completed, or they scrapped it. Or it'll be another four years until we hear more.
They could call it whatever. I don't care about is name or branding; I just wanted the non-cartoon, non-Disney, dark Kingdom Hearts that this game promised. That gameplay trailer shown last year was gorgeous, and it seems insane to throw that progress away...
Honestly I was holding out for this game. I was always a casual FF fan even though I never really played the games much. Just 7, 8, X, and X-2. And I liked the movie and handheld of 7.

Probably true , how long has this thing been in limbo now, plus as noted above their plans to turn 13 into franchise didnt really pan out as its one of the lesser liked ff.
My money's on delaying Versus XIII even more (that or renaming it to XV and announcing it for next-gen) and then announcing XIII-3.
If it does get canceled then i will find the car of every square enix employee and shit in the gas tank.
If they make it XV for PS4... I'm gonna kill somebody... Versus was the reason why I bought a PS3... I really hope it comes out for PS3...

So, has there been anything about type 0 recently? Is that ever going to make an appearance in the u.s.? Also, at this point i think we all knew something was up with Versus. I hope it makes an appearance at some point though, even if it is as a ps4 FFXV, or a vita game, or something.

I'm not quite sure why the gist here is "I want a Kingdom Hearts game but darker" - I mean... Have you PLAYED Kingdom Hearts? Specifically Parts 1 and 2. The Gameplay in those was pretty bad. The platforming was horrendous, the jumps jumpy, casting spells was awkward, the camera was spazzing out frequently... It got a lot better in for example Birth by Sleep, but still, you don't really play Kingdom Hearts because of the X-Repeat Combat, you play it for the story, worlds to visit and characters. So sucking the Disney out of this will kind of leave a pretty big hole.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am/was excited for Versus XIII, but it's not because it's Kingdom Hearts without Disney, it's because I hope they can fill the Disney hole with something equally awesome.

Final fantasy 13 was great (stop the hatred), and anyone with the slightest glance at this game could have separated from 13, so i doubt that was really this issue otherwise they would just rename it and de associate it with 13 completely. Rather it must be due to production costs etc. Got to say I'm rather saddened by this news, the game looked generally interesting.
I'm baffled as to why people would want an FF rocking the cliched Romeo and Juliet theme. If I wanted that with mobsters, Baz Luhrman's version would do.

The best thing they could do at this point is drop all these cash-in products and go full bore on an all-new FFXV. Last year was a low point in the franchise, IMO, so it doesn't give me much hope to see them creating sequels for XIII and still trying to get XIV working.

I've been closely monitoring this and according to a Square Enix Representative, the rumored cancellation of Versus XIII is not true. Versus XIII will be featured at this years Tokyo Game Show.

And if this is true, I would not lose an ounce of sleep over it. I found absolutely nothing redeemable about XIII and XIII-2 except for the graphics.

I bet Last Guardian is next up on the docket for being shit canned. A lot of Japanese companies have struggled really badly with hd asset generation for their AAA franchises this generation.
