Rumor: Dreamworks Halo movie mentioned in press release photo

In a press release for the French version of the novel Halo: Cryptum, Halo.fr found a mention of a Halo movie currently in development with Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks. Oh, cool. Wait, what?!

Joystiq points out that this bit from the press release lines up nicely with a report from Vuture that Dreamworks was going to take another route by adapting the books to avoid some of the legal business that held up the game-to-movie adaptation.

To recap: There were Halo film rumors, confirmation (kinda), cancellation and now new rumors from a French press release on Halo books.

You can check out the full press release here.

What do you think? Fake? Misinformed release writer?

How's Master Chief supposed to make the Dreamworks Face with that helmet on?

I think Speilberg would be perfect for a Halo movie.

The novels are far richer sources of narrative. If that's the direction they're taking, good on them.

i'm not opposed to going the route of book-to-film. The books were actually pretty good, so if they can do it well, then the Halo movie might not suck.

No Spielberg influences in a HALO Movie..he is a now a good producer...but he hasn't directed a good movie in a LOOONG time.

@Tristrix

That's the thing, by going by the books, they don't have to use Master Chief, there are so many other characters in the Halo universe they can center it around.

Well, Spielberg is pretty much the head guy at Dreamworks, so it seems like he would more than likely be the producer of the movie.

I have faith in Spielberg. Falling Skies was pretty good.

However, they had to wait until everyone gave into the "Halo sucks" fad? Well if it comes out around the time the remake does that would be alright I guess.

Joystiq marking it as fake, 343 and the people behind the books in the US both said it's not true.

Shame, a Halo movie would work perfectly. Halo is one of those games that's cinematic enough to translate directly into a movie. Uncharted, Metal Gear, Gears of War and a few others would work well I think.

Instead we get movies based off of Wing Commander.

Eric Nylund is one of my favourite authors and I'd love to see one of his books get made into a movie.

They already made a Metal Gear movie. It was called MGS4.

Just kidding (kind of)

A science fiction movie for 12 year olds. That's all that Halo could be made into in the cinemas.

If Dreamworks made it with the quality of Panda, Monsters, Dragon and MegaMind... then I might have to go see it despite my hatred of Halo. Those movies are great and stand tall against Pixar's best!
