Rumor: Dead Space Extraction coming to XBLA/PSN photo

According to a recent consumer survey, Electronic Arts is considering bringing Dead Space Extraction from the Wii to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network platforms. According to the survey, Extraction would be presented in HD and retail for $14.99 while retaining the "guided first-person experience" of the original game.

As well as Extraction, EA is considering another downloadable Dead Space game called Planet Cracker.
According to the survey, Planet Cracker would be a "resource strategy game where players will manage a CEC Mining operation." In a similar vein to Fable II: Pub Games, the actions in Planet Cracker would yield bring in-game rewards to Dead Space 2

Sounds ridiculous, but stranger things have happened. I wouldn't count this rumor out just yet.

I'd buy it. That's not really a surprise, though...I buy any arcade games that are even moderately fun. Where's my King of Fighters 2002, btw?

I'd buy it in a heartbeat, considering I don't have a Wii. Considering I heard so much good stuff about it, I'd love to play this game.

More people should really play this game, so yeah, if it works for some other downloadable services, go for it. Without the IR pointer, I can't see it being quite as fun, and one moment in particular as you near the last haul was pretty intense given the motion controlled inputs.

But all in all, Extraction was a good game that should probably get recognized a little more. And this is one way for that to happen.

If I didn't buy it for Wii, what makes them think I'll buy it for 360/PS3? Oh right, those idiots who say that all Wii-exclusives should be on HD consoles. Well, if this doesn't sell like hotcakes, developers won't take notice and you can forget things like Okami or Tatsunoko vs Capcom coming out on HD consoles, despite your cries.

It really looks more suitable for the Wii, but if it gets more people into it, the better.

It does seem better suited for Wii but it sounds likely. If I do recall Extraction sold like bottled feces and EA was not too happy with it.

Bitch. If this game was released on Wii at a price point of only $14.99, we all might have actually bought it too! But no, their going to release it on the HD consoles with a reduced price, and then clamour about how it sold better because "hardcore games don't sell on the Wii."

I picked it up used. Not a bad game. That said, the demand for lightgun games just isn't that strong, not on any console. If EA had really made a serious Dead Space game in the vein of RE4 on Wii, it probably would have sold a lot better. A lightgun spin-off, even if it was a decent lightgun spin-off, is still a slap in the face to Wii owners.

if it's only worth $15 on XBLA/PSN, why is it worth $50 on Wii? It doesn't cost $35 to stamp a disc and package it. I wonder what the sales would have looked like at 20 or 30 bucks.

(I'm not saying that publishers should have to eviscerate their retail values to move product, but this is clearly the price point they find to be fitting for it. why should we as consumers be expected to value it more?)

..and when will developers stop pretending that the Wii can't compute movement input from the user.

This would be pretty awful as a straight port, guiding a cursor along with a bog standard controller would be incredibly shit.

Will a lightgun game really work using just 360/PS3 controllers?
I remember playing Virtua cop 2 on the PC. It felt stupid.

For once, and this kills me, I do agree with SC for one reason.

PS3 DOES have a lightgun. I think you're all forgetting about the Guncon 3. Which is probably because the only game that supports it is Time Crisis 4. Seeing it on XBL would be nice, but unless they release an LCD compatible lightgun then it's no sale. And even so, I'd like to have a reason for owning the Guncon 3. This could be it.

I'm conflicted. I'm a huge Dead Space nerd, but I was incredibly satisfied with my decision to only RENT Extraction (not buy it) for the Wii. The story is great, and fills in a lot of details about the Dead Space universe, but I found the gameplay average and the camera erratic and annoying.

What I mean by this is that I've never played an on rails shooter where your character moves his goddamn head so much. I mean, I understand that it's a story-driven game and you are supposed to care about the people you're walking around with, but when necromorphs are climbing down all around you and clawing at you, why the fuck would you turn away from the action to stare at the dude standing next to you to see his reaction? It just ruined the atmosphere. If a fucking monster is in the room with me, I want to be able to shoot at it, goddamnit! I don't care what the fat, bald scientist is doing!

So...how would this work? We don't have wiimotes on the Xbox or PS3. And as much as I love dead space, trying to shoot dudes with a traditional controller would just suck.

That proves that Dead space extraction has no actually quality when they can just port it and make it "download-able" on XBL and PSN I want to see how much space it takes up just to see if they actually used all of the DVD.

I do own a wii but I have not bought this game, mainly on the fact that Rail shooters are not my favorite games.

its just that I don't want to pay $30-40 for a cheep trick that was there just to boost the graphics and now you can get it for $15

I don't know about you but I bought RE4 for the wii for $20 new and that was a good deal, but $50 for a rail shooter is not cool

Making a Rail shooter is a downgrade not an upgrade

Wow, it sounds like some people don't even consider rail shooters to be games. What's the problem with them, again? Ever heard of arcades? They're full of them, and they're awesome.

As for this, there's no WAY it's going to work with a dual-stick layout. Either give it Arc support or don't do it. And as far as Natal... Good luck with that one.

I'd buy it, if the Guncon 3 worked with my TV, which it does not.

I just can't see it being very fun with a standard controller.

I'm buying it to encourage developers not to do prequels to a good game on another system while leaving out the systems that the game was successful on. I own a Wii, but had no desire to play it on the system. Hopefully it sells well enough so that they'll think twice about doing something like this again. If it had been released on all systems, I wouldn't have minded. But to be Wii only was annoying, regardless of the Wii-mote being a better control system for the game.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the reason it's going for $15 is because they're doing a straight port. No graphical improvements.

Ok, I can understand PSN (assuming that it'd be used with Arc or whatever the hell it's called), but why the hell would a rail-shooter be ported to a console that doesn't have anything to use as a rail-shooter gun (the 360)? Natal? That wouldn't make sense, since you actually have to hit buttons to use the telekinesis thingy and fire, as well as hold the Wiimote on its side to Alt-fire. Just sounds odd, IMO.

Yes, I bought the game. And yes, I'm glad I did.

I'm glad to see such a quality title get a larger audience, but...

I fully expect a $25 refund in the mail, EA. Actually, considering it's $15 WITH HD, I'd like $30 to compensate for my SD copy. :/

(Also, kinda expecting this to bomb just as hard on the HD consoles, like Chinatown Wars before it and just like how NMH: Heroes' Paradise will. I don't know why people think HD consoles will save "hardcore" games from bombing. Must be an overcompensating reaction to the Wii...)

The Wii remote sucks as a light gun, but it's infinitely better than driving a cursor around the screen with an analog stick. Maybe if it had Sexaxis support on PS3 it could work.
