Rumor: check out these Fallout Online screens photo

If you are going to be skeptical about one thing for the rest of the year I'd suggest it is these screens. They're from a Polish site which claims to have gotten its hands on the paperwork from the whole Bethesda vs. Interplay lawsuit, and some of that paperwork included images from Interplay's forever in development Fallout Online, also known as Project V13.

The poster claims that these screens and artwork were sent into the court as proof that Interplay had been hard at work at making an MMORPG of Fallout and thus Bethesda has no right to sue Interplay over their lack of development on the game. So if these are real, what do we think? Doesn't look that impressive or like Interplay has done that much "developing" on it. Hopefully they turned in a bit more proof of actual progress on the game. We all know that screenshots and artwork do not a game make.

It's amazing how badly the amazing concept art was translated into those screens. I don't have much in the way of reservations about saying that's probably pretty genuine, but if they're not, I don't think they'd be all that far from the truth. Interplay has definitely seen brighter days.

Yeah, looks pretty ass. Even the hardcore old-school Fallout fans on NMA think it looks like crap, and they praise Interplay for opening its doors every morning.

It's strange to say so, since I did think Fallout 3 was somewhat dissapointing as a sequel to Fallout, but I hope they succeed in stopping this game. I just don't want it to exist and screw things up even more.

I think they ARE putting a bit more work into this, it's sort of like WoW when we first saw gameplay trailers for it; it won't look good at first, but then it will be a lot better in the end. I pray this doesn't do anything bad to the series...

I'm going to call fake on these.

The images just don't remind me enough of the original series. Simple things, like the "13" on the back and the redesign to the entire suit, make me wonder why they would attempt to remake the universe, since those suits were never worn in the original universe.

Am I the only one that thinks those first couple are actually pretty cool looking? Its very pastelish, I never played FO1-2 but I thought FO3 looked lame artwise.

Thats if those are actual ingame shots anyway, I can make concept art for 'Marvel VS Pirate Zombie Werewolf Ninja Vampires' but that doesnt mean itll happen.

It's not at all strange to think that at all. While Fallout 3 is excellent and probably one of the best WRPG of the past 5 years it is the general consensus that it is the weakest one of the trilogy.

Also I'm glad this project was killed, we already have a bloat of mediocre MMOs and above all Fallout is NOT MMO material.

Graphically it looks just shitty enough to be an MMO. I'd believe these screens were real.

If I were to fake up some screens I'd make them look super awesome.

Looks fairly legit. I'm willing to believe these are alpha stage screens. Anybody expecting beautiful graphics from a game still very much in development is just being an ass.

I think the idea of the Fallout universe full of 100,000,000 + people wouldn't work. It would get crowded.

Also, polish site.

I'm sold on these, to be honest. It does look most interesting, I must say. Consider it added to my "to-watch" list. Never was a big Fallout fan, but we shall see.

I know these are most likely Alpha build, but I see why there is concern with the game. This has the potential of being HUGE but not if they don't nail the quality. You don't make an alpha with all crappy graphics. Alpha's typically have placeholders for graphics because it would be too hard to redo all of the graphics over again just going from Alpha to Beta.

This Alpha looks more like Alpo.

They might be real but you gotta remember that the old fallout fans are the same people who have been making art, mods, patches and piecing together the original Fallout 3 (codename VanBuren) for the last decade.

I posted these images first both at Polygamia, where I work, and the Fallout Wiki, which I founded.

I realize that they might seem suspicious, but maybe you might be convinced by the fact that I also posted 4 pieces of concept art at The Vault on Friday, one of which ("Badass Armor") was posted by Interplay itself only yesterday in their forum. And I obtained the concept art and the screenshots from the very same court documents.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Ausir/Another_batch_of_V13_concept_art
http://interplay.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=1887

The screenshots and concept art were submitted by Interplay as court evidence that the game is in production, and I was sent the court documents by someone who obtained them all. Which actually is not that hard, but requires paying a fee to certain law websites. Other than that, the documents are public.

And Interplay itself started releasing concept art because of just that "Some of the concept art for the game has been released due to the lawsuit."

Yeah, there is no doubting their validity really, unless you want to question how honest Interplay is about the progress being mad (as in this small area shown could be the entire project at the moment).

I really don't see how a very early alpha in a tiny area counts as 'Full scale production', Interplay.

Probably real, but man does it look terrible. The concept art isn't even interesting - and if the concept art looks that bad, then I shudder to think what the game would have looked like.

Needless to say, I'm pretty sure that a Fallout MMO was never going to work, especially since Interplay haven't actually, you know, MADE anything for the past 8 or so years (at least, nothing I am aware of). Hell, it's a miracle that the company still exists - how many companies can work for 7-8 years on multiple products, produce bugger all, and still remain viable?!

Interplay is done for. I know it was a great company, I loved Earth Worm Jim and Fallout 2 and all that stuff, I know, blah blah blah, but let's be serious here, the company isn't even a shadow of its former self, it's a walking corpse imitating a working company. They will never finish the MMO, they'll almost certainly never release anything ever again, and die all over again, and that will be sad, but that's probably what's going to happen.

Looks like they're trying to do some stylization with the art. It worked for Borderlands, but I don't really want that particular chocolate here in my peanut butter Fallout...

I hope all of you realize this game has at least 4 to 5 years of development, if not more left in it. And judging from the quality of the screens this is most likely at a low resolution, along with the textures. I can understand it looks like ass now, not denying that. But don't consider this a final stamp on the visuals in any way shape or form when we have not been given an official visual release. I would not be surprised in any way if future screen shots of this game look drastically different both in texture sharpness and quality.

Regardless if these are real or not.. god damn I want this mmo so badly. The fan made Fallout Online will only hold my satisfaction for so long!

Of course everyone is going to complain about this. People tend to do that when it comes to Fallout things. And of course NMA would complain about it, they're the most bitter human beings on the planet. You have to take into consideration that these are very raw screens you're seeing. This is a game that has only been in production for less than a year. Interplay is broke as fuck as well, so you can't really expect a shit ton of amazing from this. All you saw was a raw 'Vault dweller' I would suppose, placed in an environment with a couple of raw Mutants. If it's fake, well, then someone needs to be working for Interplay. Because I think they're a good start. We still have a long wait until this is finished, so quit your bitching and just look at the shit.

The validity in question is "has Interplay coughed these up to satisfy the suit brought to court?" If they're fake FROM INTERPLAY to satisfy the court and buy them more time, why couldn't they hand these over BEFORE a law suit had to be filed? Either way, it is taking Interplay way too long to develop. They need to produce and satisfy their contractual obligations.
