I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I have a man crush on Brad Pitt. Face it, the man is a phenomenal actor.
I'd rather they stayed in the same vein as the game itself: A beautiful homage to the Spaghetti Western genre, right down to the Ennio Morricone-like soundtrack and the gunshot sounds.
It's already copying westerns anyway. So it'd be a parody movie or something?

Well I'd pay to see Brad Pitt in a badass western, so if this actually goes forward it could possibly not suck.

i saw red dead being 3 movies when i played it.
first being from the start until mexico.
the second being mexico to blackwater, and
the 3rd being blackwater till the end of the farm section.
4 possibly after jack takes ride. but if they turn red dead into a movie it would sit better as a trilogy

The story is a little bit overrated. Maybe if there were more gang members to take down and less missions involving cattle.
The atmosphere was solid, but the overall story could be summed up in about 2 sentences. I suppose you could say that about a lot of Westerns, but still.

I don't know if this movie is something that will happen or even something I want to happen, but this small piece of information makes me happy.
lame, are you telling me theres no new good actors(old, or young) coming out of or being in acting school? why do they always go to the old actors that havnt been acting for years. lets see some new good actors.
I don't get why people are getting upset about it being "a collection of Western tropes." Who cares if the story is a little derivative? It's interesting and fun. If this movie is a real thing I doubt it'll win an Oscar but it could be a lot of fun.

Hmmm...Pitt ? Not too sure, I mean, he is a very talent actor, that can pull off many different styles, I'm not sure he's the best fit for the role.

Ugh. Brad Pitt??? No no no. JOSH BROLIN!!! After his character in No Country for Old Men, this guy is tailor-made for the role of John Marston.

This could make a pretty good film, I think. There's plenty to work with, so far as plot points, interesting characters and set pieces.

On the other hand, I think taking the pieces you have and crafting out a story for one, maybe two movies seems a bit more realistic. Its the people that make the film that make a story pop. Brad Pitt across from some bang up actors for the government agents, Bill and the rest of the gang, could be a real joy to watch.

I didn't mean it as a derogatory remark. Because RDR was based on western tropes, the game had more charm than the last 2 GTAs combined.
If there is any cynicism on my part, its that film makers still haven't really figured how to turn good games into good films. Translating a work that is already in a visual medium into another visual medium that has the built in constraint of having to fit in a 2 hour block is a challenge I've yet to see Hollywood overcome.

Eh. I mean one of the great things about RDR is we get so little of the western treatment in videogames. It's special. I could see them turning a film version into just another western movie.
That said I am very difficult to please when it comes to first impressions of films (they all almost always feel so predictable). But Brad Pitt is cool.

RDR did not have a good story, it was well presented, but the story itself was terrible. Just imagine, gruff former outlaw meets a crazy graverobber, a drunk Irish, a conman, a naggy marshall, they shoot 50 guys in a fort with a Gatling gun, then he goes to Mexico, meets a perverted dictator, gets betrayed, meets a perverted rebel, storms the dictator's home with a Gatling gun, then kills 100 people. At last the movie reaches it's climax, as John meets two irritating FBI agents, yet another honorable Indian character and a racist anthropologist, the Indian guy dies like a hero and they storm in a fort on the mountains with a Gatling gun, 250 Indians die, then John is betrayed and dies, the movie fast forwards 15 years and his son kills his killer.
Sure, it's better than your average Uwe Boll movie, but I wouldn't watch it.

While I agree that as a general story line, RDR is lacking in plenty of areas, as the basis for a movie script, it is pure gold.... Plenty of bit parts for big or even forgotten about nitch stars, you could add in some skin for an R rating and have backstory plot lines running along with the main story (Marston's wife & kid, The Marshals, Government men, etc.).
As an action flick with a decent story and a "dying Old West" flavor, it has great possiblities. I never saw the same potential with any of the GTA games (tho, Vice City would have made a great "campy" Miami Vice meets Goodfellas spin).

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Josh Brolin would be perfect, he looks like john, and would definitely be able to pull of the part. I am a big fan of Brad pitt but Jose would be better in my opinion.

"...in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches." This immediately raises red flags. What do they mean by "modern touches"? Do they remember the atrocity that was "Wild Wild West"? Why does Hollywood insist on fucking everything it touches.

Which plotline did I just describe? Oh, right, both of them. I'm sick and tired of people saying that video games have good story lines, when they're really only good compared to the story lines of other video games and crappy pop media. It's time we asked more from developers.

@ free touch - uh, yeah? The entire last portion of the game was the same kind of stuff you did at the start. Maybe it really isn't all that many missions, but it takes a bit of drama out of the game when there's only 3 gangsters to take out. Shooting crows and stopping stampedes shouldn't have been nearly as prominent. Heh.
I'm trying not to put spoilers in my messages, so I can't elaborate on a lot of my "complaints" (more like slight annoyances). I wish though that the coolest parts of the game (things like riding behind a mine cart or jumping onto a movie train) were few and far between. The rest of the game was good but could have been GREAT. Story included, IMO. Would have preferred that the parts of the story be a little more connected. Maybe that's just me.

I loved the story for Red Dead Redemption, despite its cliches. The two stand out sections to me had little to do with the game play or any cut scenes that furthered the plot. I loved riding home to "Compass", as I really felt like I had earned the right to return home to my son and wife, and "Dead Man's Gun", as I genuinely wanted revenge.
Neither of these sections of the game would be easy to translate to film .The immersive nature of video gamimg meant that I was able to connect and empathise with the character in a way that would be much harder to do in a movie.
