Rumor about a rumor: Wii version of Brutal Legend canceled photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg
filed under: #Electronic Arts

This October, Double Fine's Brütal Legend will rock the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 so hard that the name of said month has been changed to "Rocktober." And while it's not been confirmed by the developer or its publisher Electronic Arts, rumors of a Wii version of the title have been kicking around for some time now.

Our sources have indicated that a Wii version was in development at Electronic Arts, just not with Double Fine at the helm. The keyword here is "was," as we've recently learned from our sources that the Wii version of the title has been canceled due to quality and technical concerns. Word has it that quality assurance testers who moved from Electronic Arts to Double Fine were recently let go, after the demise of the project left their services unnecessary.

Back in March, 1UP spoke with Double Fine's Tim Schafer about the rumored Wii title, when he hesitated while shooting a glance at his PR handler before saying: "We are making an Xbox 360 and a PS3 version of Brütal Legend." This was a true statement, but definitely didn't answer the question.

Electronic Arts didn't return our request for comment, which isn't surprising -- responding to a rumor about a rumor is probably not in its best interest. But for Wii owners waiting for their own version of Brütal Legend, picking up an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 controller probably is.

Good thing I have a 360 and won't be worrying about my Wii. The Wii is basically for first party nintendo games in my house anyway.

It's probably for the best anyway.

The Wii is not a next-gen console with regard to graphics and sound. It is with regard to control scheme but one out of three does not cut it when it comes to titles like this that were clearly designed with the capabilities of the 360 and ps3 in mind.

Nothing surprsing here.

What I just don't fully understand is why isn't this game planned for PC too, Psychonauts made it on Steam and retails, so why not for PC Gamers? This is the first time Tim doesn't target for it.

They don't want it pirated.

That's the only reason not to release a PC version.

It'll probably get done eventually. EA will contract it out so DF doesn't have to do it themselves. The Wii version just wouldn't fly without all new art. I mean, come on, look at the game videos. Wii can't do that.

Hey guys watch this:

WII ISN'T GETTING BRUTAL LEGEND BECAUSE YOU'RE ALL TOO FUCKING BUSY BEING PRICKS WITH YOUR "IMAGINE" GAMES AND SPENDING ALL YOUR MONEY ON CRAPPY PORTS OR RE-RELEASES!

HEY! HOW ABOUT YOU "IMAGINE" YOURSELF CONVINCING THOSE CASUAL ASSHOLE TO BUY A DECENT GAME FOR ONCE TO ACTUALLY SUPPORT GREAT WII GAME THAT ISN'T A STAPLE FRANCHISE OR A MILDLY (OR NECESSARILY) VIOLENT GAME!.

GO SUCK A FAT PIPE YOU WIITARDS! I HOPE YOU HIT YOUR KIDS SO THEY GET OUT OF THEIR WII-PNOSIS AND BUY SOME DECENT FUCKING GAMES!

See what I did there? Yeah we all fucking know the nerds on game sites bought games like No More Heroes and House of the Dead and The Conduit and shit (wow every time I stick up for my Wii only like 6 games come to mind :() but NO ONE ELSE IS.

If someone you know bought Jillian Micheal's Fitness Ultimate Challenge or Petz: Jungle, you take a pipe, SMACK THEM. And then nudge them towards some decent titles.

If every Wii owner would've bought Zack & Wiki or something I wouldn't have to wait until Natal and Eyetoy come out so they get ported over ~_~.

Wii owners are't allowed to complain anyways because it's the norm that we get shafted. If this didn't come over to the Xbox/PS3 on the other hand well that's just ~HORRIBLE~ -_-

Ha, these stupids angry xbox360/ps3 morrons, every time complainig for multiplatform titles that coming to Wii. THIS IS INEVITABLE!!
They're angry becose some of these games are better on Wii than their consoles: Virtua Tennis 2009, Tiger Woods 09, Shaun White, Ghostbusters, Harry Potter and more coming to Wii, SORRY MORRONS!!
Now, they say that the Wii's horsepower can't handle these games, WRONG!!
The new graphics technology allows the Wii to reach the graphics of the HD consoles, take a look to RESIDENT EVIL DARSIDE CHRONICLES and SPYBORGS for example. These games practically looks like a xbox360 game.
I know how to differentiate the graphics, becose I have a high-end PC runing CRISIS and also a Wii with 10 of the best looking games.
Also check Dead Space Extraction, Silent Hill Shattered Memories and Cursed Mountain.
ENJOY!!
