Read the headline. It says "RUMOR". Read it again. RUMOR. Got it? OK, cool.
Now that we've got that out of the way, check out this post from Rumor Reporter:
Speaking with a friend of mine from Germany, who works for a very legitimate gaming production and publication, I can confirm that Nintendo truly does have something under their sleeves in the next few months. Of course, I can’t say more than that at the current moment, but now you’re glad that you checked the site other the weekend right? The secret lies within the Wii’s interface, most notably the channels. Something just might surprise you how far Nintendo can go in actually changing the infrastructure of their next-gen console.
Remember IGN’s interview with NOA’s Perrin Kaplan?
IGN: “Do we have any more surprises on the way before launch?”
Kaplan: “We do have a couple of other surprises. You know probably not as big as what you got today, but more details on a couple of different things that I think people… I think your folks will be very pleased about.”
These secrets are contained in upcoming channels to surface eventually - ones that haven’t been announced. Nintendo’s playing a waiting game on when to reveal this, but I cannot confirm anything other than that. Stay tuned on these developments.
In other developments, you might want to keep an eye on your Wii’s WiiConnect24 service leading up to this Christmas. Nintendo’s sending a nifty gift… a surprise.
That's the entire post. Once again, don't get your hopes too high. This is a RUMOR. I repeat, RUMOR. However, in the event that this isn't a RUMOR, I wonder what exactly this surprise could be. Anyone care to speculate?
doubt it will be anything amazing, just typical adding functionality updates like all the other systems are already doing
Excellent thought but 100% doubt it...even though they DID just send out an update to the Parental software coincedence?
PROBABLY!!!
Maybe it is reduced VC prices? Or a way to play online (even though they said the first game would be that Pokemon Revoluation thingy).
You think it is the internet channel or some sort of way to chatting online? Cause didn't Nintendo make all those patents on like WiiLife and all sorts of things and one of them pointed to something that seemed like chatting online with other users?
and I second the channel dedicated to the girl in the above photo!
According to the quote in the story, it'll make your folks very happy. Perhaps not gamers, but the media. By doing an RSS feed of wii.ign.com, nintendo gets to hype games to it's consumers and ign gets a ton of unique visitors to pimp to their advertisers. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal on both ends to me.
If not that, I'd definately take an online Mii Channel, allowing chat, emoticons, maybe minigames. It'd really be nice to have a way to interact with wii friends. Cause the message board system? Not so hot.
I will have to hurt many people if MiiSpace is created.
I am glad I won't have to do that cause the chances of that SHOULD be slim!
Even though a good idea on Nintendo's side :X
As for the WiiConnect24...I'll be moving over the Christmas holidays. Anyone know if it is possible to get things over the WiiConnect24 network after they have been delivered?
Plus them talking about the infrastructure...no its not a game. Something to do with the channels, like a new gaming community channel?
1. Some sort of education channel, since we've already seen educational games on the DS.
2. A separate channel for downloadable DS demos.
A) How would we find new people at this point?
B) What would happen to our existing friends?
I say its not a free game cause it says "The secret lies within the Wii’s interface, most notably the channels. Something just might surprise you how far Nintendo can go in actually changing the infrastructure of their next-gen console."
That looks more like a new channel and how it works...not just a free game.
A chat/buddy system would also be good and may allow a bit more freedom with the WiiCodes.
The infrastructure quote does seem a little bigger than this though. I'll throw out Homebrew support (including free downloadable devkit) or Office like applications. They both seem a big step away from traditional console infrastructure.
Seriously, they need to do something with the Miis. I'd hate to see the concept wasted...it's hooked everyone that's had a chance to play with it. Avatars are addicting like crack!
- Remote with BT connectivity and both a speaker and microphone? -Check-
- System that can be left on all the time with a low power sleep mode? -Check-
- Network connectivity? -Check-
Looks like all systems are go for VoIP...
I predict it will be iTunes. So you can get free radio and you can download songs for Wii points.
You heard it hear first folks. Remember that!
Tournaments and events would let 1000s of people watch the winners play live if that's what it is, and I've always wanted to turn on a game all night and listen to someone play it instead of listening to a movie all night. i hope this is what it is..
The best would be the ability to stream media from computers that are on the same network.
That would be outrageous.
iTunes compatability would be alright.
Mic in Wiimote + a music store = Karaoke Channel?
The Japanese folk in the movies I watch love Karaoke.
This is my first forum post on a forum since the end of lik-sang
