Rumor: $199 will buy you a Rock Band, Xbox 360 will have wires photo

GameTrailers says that an anonymous Microsoft mole leaked that Rock Band will in fact cost $199 for the full bundle, which matches with earlier rumors. The same person also says that the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band will not feature wireless controllers.

GT cites Ars Technica's insider information, which also tells us that the Wii and PS3 will include wireless guitar controllers, and that the full bundle (with guitar, microphone, and drums) will weigh 20 pounds.

Harmonix and EA have not confirmed this information, but Ars Technica has been on a roll lately, and this informant is reported to be the same one that broke the HDMI news

Assuming this rumor about corded vs. wireless is true, I could see most people with both the PS3 and Xbox 360 leaning towards the PS3 version of Rock Band. I know I would want wireless for the $200 price tag.

[Via GameTrailers - thanks, CP]

If it's true, I'm pretty disappointed in Microsoft's pig-headedness in regards to wireless technology.

@Distrato
They've already said that it will come out for Wii later. To quote someone from Harmonix when asked if they would bring it to the Wii later: "Absolutely"

If it does come down to this i'll definitely purchase it for the PS3 instead. The only thing that I fear is that the PSN will not update with content as fast as the marketplace will - though Sony has been trying to shape that up more and more as the months roll by.

If there is one thing I have found is that EB Games and Gamestop have such a terrible knack for gaming that their information is very rarely correct, much less true to the consumer. These are people who will tell you and their employees that the Game Boy Advance is just as good as the Game Boy Advance SP... They'll do anything for a sale, so they can bite my ass when it comes to trying to give me information on gaming.

If both bundles come out wireless, or both bundles wired - then I suppose i'll be waiting to see if either version lags.

It makes sense that the 360 version is wired. Microsoft still has their monopoly on wireless peripherals until Two-thousand-and-whatever.

I forgot to add:

Another stupid decision from Microsoft that will impede on their ability to completely own this generation of consoles.

@Wedge

You never know about DLC for the Wii version --- They've already confirmed DLC for Guitar Hero III on the Wii, so I don't see why they wouldn't do it for Rock Band as well.

They're wired, trust me.

I'm getting it on PS3 for wireless, since I have the choice. Id buy it wired on 360 if I had to.

But I still want to know if there will be just the guitar + game bundle. I don't want the rest.

I would get it on PS3, except I have about 8 times as many people to play online with on 360 since nobody I know owns a PS3.

Bwahaha Warmonger! I can't believe you're such a points whore. I pity you since these points mean absolutely nothing.

It's been said, the 360 doesn't have enough ports for more than 3 wireless controllers. Plus my rear USB port stopped working and I use the ethernet adapter. That means I have one free USB port. So.

I heard that the guitar will be the only wired piece of technology in the bundle. The other few peripherals will be wireless. That makes a lot more sense.
