The more I hear, the less I think that Microsoft has a standard way of dealing with Xbox 360 replacements after the dreaded Red Ring of Death. I've seen and heard everything from two-week turnaround times to multi-month bitchfests, with replacements varying from ones that break again in a month to brand new systems. Should you want to avoid all of this hassle, you could just do what one disgruntled Xbox 360 owner did: email Bill Gates. Believe it or not, this gamer actually received a response and a replacement Xbox 360. M&C says that some Internet Matlocking netted this guy the email addresses of Bill Gates and Microsoft’s Corporate VP of Worldwide Customer Service Kathleen Hogan. He emailed both execs and was contacted 24 hours later by Xbox customer services; they informed him that his brand new console was on the way. Wow, what an unexpected response! What do you think the chances are of this happening again?

If you call Nintendo and ask for Reggie they put you through to his receptionist. I usually get to nervous to actually say anything beyond yelping and hanging up.
Wow, thats actually pretty impressive, I think bill's head would explode if he delt with every claim personally though
@pwned88
which is why he just needs to stop playing around and make well than enough 360s. Acting as if he doesn't have the money.
Maybe if I email Jack Tretton or Kaz Hirai, I’ll get my damn in-game XMB!
he doesn't care, he already put in his 2 weeks.
Email address plz.
Im going to puke. I've been waiting two weeks for my fucking xbox, and the Wii has a fucking SHIT online service. Not even any voice chat for fucks sake.
Give me what I want, Msoft!!!
@BrOnX:
LOL.
I would also like some email adresses, please. I've been waiting patiently for months on a replacement wireless headset.
Low. A precedent has been set. People are going to try it. They'll be like "stfu"
Oh Bill Gates you are just so crazy. And that is why I love you.
Lets try and melt his Blackberry.
moonkid : actually it would probably be a windows mobile device - but yeah, lets do it
That's cool. I just registered for the repair process online and got my 360 fixed and back in my hands in about 2.5 weeks. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be.
Someone post his email on the internets. GO GO GO
@Dale
good point, though if it's an MS device it will be easier to crash it. Go people go.
I heard he has in iphone
while they did a a good job of fixing the RRoD on mine (10 days total) the DVD drive now takes up to 10 starts before it recognizes the disc.
@moocow21 -
Exact same experience here recently. Mine was RRoD (and then the DVD drive wouldn't spin after I toweled it) - and I got mine back in about 2 weeks from reporting the issue to getting it back... maybe 12 business days total.
Not sure if I got mine back or not (has the same manufacture date of 10/22/05)... But not sure if they just print up a new SN/Manufacture date tag and stick it on a refurb unit.
Anyway - seems like its mine and no issues since the repair...
Was funny to see every UPS employee know that the white box contained a 360 going back for repair ... must get a lot of them.
I e-mailed Bill Gates once. He is most definitely not interested in eating a fetid orang-utang cunt.
Now that they have the money they should put some engineers into thinking how to reduce the rrod numbers. That would encourage me into buying one of those boxes.
I get the feeling that they provided this guy excellent service just to keep him quiet. You think they would be experienced enough to know better than that.
I'm on my 10th 360 since launch. No, that's not a typo - I said TENTH. During a bad run, I had one die, the replacement arrive the day of the faulty Fall update which was immediately bricked, then one arrive DOA having been through a fire in the UPS truck. After that, they lost my return for 2 months, and refused to replace my system even though I had their own tracking number that proved it was signed for by them. I found the e-mail addresses of every Xbox-related MS employee I could find and sent a mail with all that info, and ultimately it was Major Nelson who got them to contact me... at which point they asked me to send my broken console in. After another week of explaining that I had already sent the damn thing in (and another e-mail to Major Nelson), they promised to send me a new-in-box unit for all my troubles.
A week later, another refurb arrived. I called to complain - they sent me a free copy of Viva Pinata. That system lasted a grand total of 4 months.
Sadly, I really dig the 360 when it works... and during the 3 months they were screwing with me, I bought a Core system. It now sits in the closet as a spare for the next inevitable RROD. WHEE!
Matlocking? Pshh, Consumerist posted Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates' public and most direct e-mail addresses.
Linky!
Dear Billy,
Mah shit's broke. Hit me up, G.
Thanks. Mom says hi.
Love,
Your shnookums
Now that their emails are so well known they will probably change them, and choke their secretaries.
@ Reverend Slim
That sucks ass dude. I had my 360 RROD on me in October, but luckily I had insurance on it from Circuit City. I sent it in to CC and they tested it and sent me out a gift card for a new 360. I paid for a bundle so I got more than enough for a new 360 Premium and two games. I had heard about the RROD before getting my first which is why I decided to get the protection plan, as they like to call it, otherwise I usually don't believe in insurance for anything but my car.
Here in Australia, every one I know who has sent 360s back to MS have had a replacement back in 5 business days maximum, sometimes shorter.
The only real problem with the whole experience is the guy on the phone that keeps asking you questions instead of giving you the damn reference number ;)
I am on my second since launch.
Emails away, I hope I can finally get my replacement.
Yikes, I just bought my replacement online since my old one had a DVD Drive that shitted out. Hopefully this one lasts longer than 9 months, or else it's to the PS3 I go. At least I get all my money back on the spot (minus the cost of the replacement plan) when it inevitably happens.
How about somebody send me Bill's email address just to be safe.
This happening again? HAH!
Cool of Bill Gates, though.
Everyone email him at once! He'll love this!
"Low. A precedent has been set. People are going to try it. They'll be like "stfu""
Please stop emailing execs to undermine the hardworking people who are handling these sorts of issues and those that are waiting patiently for their box. Emailing the CEO of the company just makes you seem like an unaccountable bullshitty baby boomer. Yes, it sucks that your stuff broke, here's how we're going to fix it, please don't be a dick to those that are playing with the rules.
Now to see if I can email him and get a free one...
@Dale North: If he knows anything about his mobile OS, he best not use it.
Oh that is just awesome.
the chances are slim to none, thanks to your BIG FAT MOUTH BLABBERING ABOUT IT. THANKS DALE NORTH. YOU CAN'T JUST MATLOCK FOREVER
That's really neat, but let's not overdo it.
@Snaileb: Yeah, Wii's online service is god awful. Nintendo needs to get it's shit together on that.
nice doing of M$, however, BG prolly has a garage full of 360's just for this purpose :-)
