JapanSlaveMapClassified Destructoid reader Fromagex is sick of buying video games that don't last longer than a night or two of fun. So naturally his best bet would be a good RPG, but naturally, he can't find one. Him and his friends are disgusted at the amount of RPGs that completely rip off old classics without expanding on their simple plots or typical gameplay mechanics. Are we just experienced game masters who cannot be satisfied with anything less than amazing, or have games been flooded with copycats and one night stands? To better understand the gaming conundrum we have used our satellites to make an accurate map chart of Japan, but WE NEED YOUR HELP! Before our information is complete we need to know what you think is the reason for the amount of great video games that only last a weekend, and the even greater number of games that downright SUCK. Keep reading for the full unedited top secret map of Japan. Here's what Fromagex originally wrote on the matter. Read his rant and give us one of your own. Don't be afraid to go off the deep end - don't touch that backspace key! Why are new games so short? Are RPGs dying?... Why the hell does a 50 Cent game sell so well?! Unleash your inner robotic rage and let us know what's pissing you off about games recently.

alright, im in a bit of a tirade at the moment. last wednesday i dropped 50 bux on the new tomb raider game. i played the 1st 2 and loved them when i was younger. i had rented suikoden v, so it took a few days til playing tomb raider. popped it in. EIGHT hours later, i beat it! why do they make games so short these days? for some reason i remember playing the originals for loooong periods of time. and they were pretty hard too. whereas this iteration is so linear: jump here, grapple here (it even tells me when to push the button to grapple,) swing on this rope which is the only thing around. is it that being 22, im used to playing games and can breeze thru them? or are they dumbing everything down?

i was talking to a friend recently about gaming. we both love rpgs and are children of the 80’s, when gaming 1st hit it big. RPGs are shit these days. using the same recycled plots over and over w/ no real new advancements. woo they made it so everyone can play online like its a big fantasy world. thats the only rpg advancement since the early 90’s. that and making huge FMVs of a crappy anime looking cartoons w/ bad voice acting that take up so much space on the disks that the game is short. even better, a lot of games they make today are the exact plots of older games with a different name on them! wouldnt you think the game companies would want to stay true to the core group of gamers, those who have been there since the begining? grow up w/ us! instead everything is geared towards kids, and ease of play. understandable they want everyone to play. but i really feel left out now. i dont need the same obligatory tutorials in games. “this is how you shoot” “this is how you use a potion.” is it BECAUSE ive been playing for so long that it all feels the same. am i the only one that feels like this? perhaps i just choose bad games. but they always look good til i get 20 minutes into them. does this make any sense? if anyone reads this, maybe we could get a post going about this. i just wonder if anyone feels the same way.
