Rosenblum pleads not guilty, to be put under house arrest photo

To update the alleged happenings of one very allegedly stupid person, GameLife's Andrew Rosenblum has pleaded not guilty to three counts of threatening to commit a crime and has had his bail placed at $50,000. Once Rosenblum is released, he will be placed under house arrest.

In case you forgot what happened yesterday, Rosenblum has been accused of sending some very untimely messages in ways that aren't too bright at a time so close to the Virginia Tech tragedy. Let's take a look at one man's alleged ramblings, shall we:

"I'm gonna bring a gun to your school and kill you and (the other female student) and everybody you love. It's gonna be VT, (a reference to the Virginia Tech massacre earlier that day), all over again. Seriously, I'm just that demented."

Again, if this is true, then you're a f**cking moron, Andrew. If it's not true, then I hope you sue the panties off of this supposed victim.

Why are we still talking about this? This is worse than news coverage on a random celebrity getting arrested. And not like Mel Gibson (he is actually popular). This would be like turning on the news and having a story about how one of the top 12 American Idol contestants from 2 years ago has been arrested.

No offense to Andrew Rosenblum, but he isn't that well known. But either am I. Even if it was innernet famous Ron Workman that did this it shouldn't be put up on news sites. Now if somebody like CliffyB, Will Wright, or Miyamoto did this and got arrested then it would be big news. But Andrew is just another random person on the internet that doesn't need and probably doesn't want the coverage that this is getting.

I agree with Ted, I really couldn't care less about this guy anymore.

He knew what he was doing when he wrote that, and now he's reaping what he sow. Move on.

It's relevant because of the current attitude towards gaming and the VT shootings. He's a gamer who has tied himself to the massacre. I'm interested in and part of the gaming culture, so I find this to be interesting.

I agree, once was okay, but to post another update just to call him a fucking moron is just twisting the knife. I know it's a tough situation, and Dtoid is to be the straight up gaming news site, but at least keep some professionalism in your reporting here.

Haha, PiKo I was thinking the samething. It wasn't a "random" post it was an update. Some people are actually interested with this whole situation and want to get as much information because they're still shocked.

From that picture... He looks the creepy sadistic stalker type. I wouldn't be surprised if "alleged" turns into "convicted". But here's hoping that's not the case. For all us gamer types.

Richard, he's more than just a gamer who tied himself to the massacre. He's a gamer with tangential ties to MTV who tied himself to the massacre. Being a semi-Viacom personality makes a huge difference.

What really upsets me about this is how he could end up a prime example for mainstream media or the Jack Thompsons of the world. Whether he truly represents any of us, the fact remains is that it's an easy target for idiots.

All I am trying to do is say, hey, this guy is an idiot and doesn't represent any of us.

So maybe instead of bashing this guy and acting like he's the plague, why not say something nice, and maybe try and help him? The way your going about this is that if someone tarnishes the face of gaming, there dropped like hot potato, which to me isn't fair.

It doesn't show a very tight knit, thoughtful, and intelligent community (Which is what we gamers all talk about, but do we do it?) when comments like this come out.

I am not saying ignore the situation, just think it through a little more and actually have an intelligent response to it rather than what you are saying.

@ Omega -
He kind of did, with the sue comment. Possibly not phrased for kindness, but hey, it's Destructoid, not MyLittlePony.com. It's supposed to be mean spirited and snarky. That said, the nicest thing I can think of is at least he got caught before he did anything with any permanent consequences, and if he's lucky he will get some court-appointed treatment from what I am guessing is a fairly large social disorder.

Or to quote Robocop, "Attempted murder, it's not like he killed anybody!"

Just because it's Dtoid I don't think it means that it should be any different from any other site.

We all get up in arms and scream about how gamers are aintelligent, social culture that are being mis-seen in the public, and situations like this give us ample opportunities to show that in situations like this, but no, we choose to use words like "Douchebag" "Fucking loser" and "Sociopath" and make fun of someone that may have some mental illness.

If we want to be seen as a culture that can be taken seriously, then lets start ACTING seriously!

Actually, I don't know why gamers care at all. Let Jack Thompson have his day in the son. He's old. He'll die soon. I really could care less if some gamer goes crazy and shoots people. Let the media have it's day. It's not going to stop me from playing video games. Honestly, Jack Thompson, despite from just being a moron, really hasn't hurt the gaming community. This guy (never knew who he was before Destructoid) is just another person to me. I'm not going to get my panties in a twist just because a gamer says some really horrible things.

There's no need to be upset. Just enjoy your games and screw what others think.

i don't think some of the people in this forum are "aintelligent" at all, besides, when did "games" or gamers need to become serious, or uphold the values of social consciousness. i know i've been playing video games for the last 30 years to have fun, not do my best Sean Penn impersonation.

I'm not upset at all. I am upset that a culture that wants to be taken as a serious entertainment medium acts like this. That's all. Yes, this may be fuel for Jack Thompson. But so what? If you didn't notice, Thompson is going away. Yes, he has been on the news because of VT and Dr. Phil is now going the way of blaming games but others are not going that route. Fucking, Rusg Limbaugh has come out stating that this is way beyond the scope of video games. He is saying that is being close minded and that there are bigger issues here. I have almost never agreed with anything he has said (i am quite liberal). But this seems to be one subject that he totally understands and Limbaugh is a huge name in the political agenda, MUCH bigger than Jack Thompson would ever hope to be.

I think more people are slowly realizing that we can't just blame all this shit on video games and that Andrew Rosenblum's problem expands far beyond him playing video games. I just think this thing shouldn't even be getting coverage.

Because for most people, gaming isn't a culture in and of itself, but a part of culture? Just like I didn't feel like there was some slight against me when Tweener from Prison Break killed a couple kids in a car accident, I figure it doesn't say much about me when some socially retarded college kid sends death threats to an ex-acquaintance (three dates doesn't really count as girlfriend, especially if the third date was to break up with him). If it turns out that Matt Rousch from TV Guide likes to wear the skins of pretty ladies, it doesn't mean that all people who watch TV are psychos. Just Matt Rousch.

I don't hink its about being taken seriously. It's about the threat to our form of entertainment. These idiots want to tie something I like to do after I get home from work to coldblooded murder. One might say, "well they are just trying to stop the selling of violent video games to minors." That is a slippery slope. Back when our parents were our age, you could drink at 18. Not anymore. also, if developers are scared off because of lost revenue, and possibly fines, I'm not going to get a standard of quality/product that I should be. Blaming videogames is also detrimental because it's not addressing the real problem behind these shootings.

A complete transcript of the IM conversation shows that Rosenblum made it clear to the woman he had no plans to follow through on his angry threats, Carney said.

@Melissa, oh so it's okay to threaten to come round and kill your ex in a VT reenactment if you quickly follow up by saying you don't actually have a gun? Great. It kind of reminds me of those jokers at airports who say they have a bomb or drugs in their luggage and then wonder why they spend the next 12 hours in a police cell.

On balance this guy is simply an socially inept loser, but it is still an incredibly stupid thing to say. As in it "made her fear for her life" incredibly stupid thing to say.

If he's lucky she'll accept his profuse blubbing apology before the court and he'll get a slap on the wrist. If not... well he shouldn't have said it in the first place.

Ok, so he managed to cover his ass... sort of. Still doesn't compensate for the fact that he made a complete jack-ass out of himself and brought more ire upon the gaming community by being one of it's representatives through his media affiliations.

Everyone knows you're supposed to wait at least 6 months to a year after a major tragedy before you refer to it in your own diabolical schemes or a humorous one-liner. Sheesh.

What a douchebag. Says a friend of mine, "I say don't put him in jail. I say leave him to walk the streets of Blacksburg with a giant t shirt that says exactly what he said. I'll give him an hour."

I live on the third floor of the building where the girl and resident advisor were shot. I knew the RA; Ryan Clark. I left for work 15 minutes before the first shooting occured. If i'd held the door open for him (door locks turn off at 10AM, this was 7:00) I don't think I ever would forgive myself.

This isn't something to be joked about -- it's something that has affected thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, and the bastard got what was coming to him for his insensitivity. Freedom of speech comes with an accountability factor.

@ Omega:

Maybe if the guy hadn't acted like such a fucking loser douchebag sociopath, he wouldn't be called those names. Making threats RIGHT after it happened is possibly the stupidest thing one could have done. Maybe he just did it for the lulz and wasn't serious. But anyone who's lived in this country after 9/11 should know there are consequences to making statements like that. I really don't care whether or not he was a gamer. What he allegedly did was sick and offensive. He doesn't deserve a cookie and a hug for it.
