Rocksteady thinks a Bane game 'could be crazy' photo

Full disclosure: a Bane spinoff game isn't going to happen anytime soon ... but it sure is a fun topic to think about, right? Right!? In a discussion with VideoGamer, Batman: Arkham Asylum director Sefton Hill pondered what such a project would be like.

"I really think there's scope to take some of those villains, even some of the not-so-famous ones like Bane, who has a phenomenal backstory, and really work on turning that into something original and fresh."

While he admits it would be "less popular," Hill believes that sort of game "could be really interesting and exciting. That could be crazy." So crazy, in fact, that I can hardly fathom the concept.

In closing, Hill didn't give out anything specific on Arkham Asylum 2, but he was willing to promise the studio's continued commitment to dishing out plenty of surprises: "For us as a developer... we're not a mission pack developer. We always want to surprise, we want to come up with something new."

A standalone Bane game? Yes please, says Batman dev [VideoGamer]

I love you so much right now.

If Rocksteady ever spun-off one of the Batman villans...wow. Do it. Now. And include Harley Quinn somehow.

The original Vengeance of Bane is one of my all-time favorites and has been for years. If they make a game based on that with the fighting from AA, I'll buy it on day one.

Bane's design in Arkham Asylum was pretty fucking horrible. I don't know why they veered so far from the comic book assets when they made that game. Only Poison Ivy and The Joker looked alright.

I'd love game about the comic book version of Bane - both Vengence of Bane series were pretty cool but even DC ruined him as a villain. I think Bane was only good when Chuck Dixon was writing his stories.

Bane isn't one of my favorite Batman villains, but if Rocksteady made one I would definitely buy it. I hope that Hush or Black Mask make an appearance in AA2.

Rocksteady didn't understand Bane, if Arkham Asylum is anything to go by.

Like Silent said, this was the George Clooney Batman and Robin"HULK SMASH" Bane: not the real, intelligent, and crafty Bane that Batman fans know and love.

I thought bane was just like that in the game because he was on "Titan" or super venom.

Anyways a bane game would probably suck even if it stuck to the comics, like When bane was supposed to be batmans brother? WTF. Still I like the direction they went with his character. Personally I thought he was popular but yeah there's plenty of other villans to choose from.

Of course Rocksteady likes Bane. Every single boss in Arkum Asylum was essentially Bane, give or take 2 of them.

If they actually got the character right, a Bane game would be outstanding. I don't think anybody would want to play as Tube Hulk though. I figure they only did that in the first one for the reason that KingSigy mentioned.

It would be awesome if the game's path combined the book mentioned in my first post with Knightfall. It could start with a tutorial where you'd learn to fight against other prisoners, and work up to where he gets the Venom procedure and breaks out.

He'd then carve a bloody swath through Gotham's underworld as a way of making himself known. One of the centerpieces of the game could be his assault on Arkham Asylum, when he releases Batman's entire rogue gallery.

And the last boss fight could be the best boss fight of all time. Just imagine what a mind fuck it would be for the player to not only defeat Batman, but to have the game end with the scene in the header. It would be even crazier than seeing 007 die in the beginning of Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, because the story would lead into it and give the hero's demise some weight.

All in all, I think Bane could be an excellent lead for a game, possibly even better than Batman himself. He's just as intelligent and capable as the Dark Knight, but with distinct anti-hero tendencies. And who hasn't wanted to snap a few necks while playing the first AA?

"even some of the not-so-famous ones like Bane" WTF?!?! Yeah, they ruined him in the more-campier-than- Adam West movies, but IMHO he is the second biggest Batman villain. Joker is number one, considering he raped, crippled, and tortured Gordon's daughter. Bane broke Batman's fuckin back and left him crippled for a long time. It's like saying Juggernaut is a not-so-famous X-Men villain, or that Deadpool is a a crazy guy with tourettes. I would love to play a game as Bane, filling up with his Venom and demolishing everything and everyone in his path. If you want a great book (not a comic) about Bane and his backstory, read Batman: Knightfall. It's a great book about the whole Batman/Bane saga. Bane is truly a genius.

How about you have part of a level where you play as Harley? or a goon that has to get through the city?

Wait, Deadpool is a crazy guy with tourette's. But he has sharp pokey stuff and things that go boom. GO DEADPOOL! He needs his own game, as long as it is nowhere tied in to what is going to be the essential assbroth of a spin-off movie they are going to make of him.

I liked Arkham Asylum, but just can't make this suspension of disbelief.
One escape, two, fine. Even if you got people killed on the way. You can still hope for the best and just keep these super-villians containted, but at some points - guards will gun every "patient" down and the city will make them heroes.
Also as far as I can believe Batman - being as mad as his enemies - could refrain from killing them, even knowing perfectly well that the will kill again. But saving them when they get on each others throats?

I guess I should just ignore it to appreciate this basically unrealistic IP. But how?

I.. I have to agree with this, if only for the thought of workable team dynamics and a Boomerang/Mirror Master ol' school "glass & shatter combo".

@Peteru: Batman saving his enemies knowing perfectly well that they will kill again is what makes him Batman. If he killed them then he'd be just as bad as the villains he fights.

I liked Bane because even though he was a villain, he had problems that he overcame. He eventually beat his addiction to venom and was the first villain in years of Batman to be just as compelling, if not more, than the Joker and Ra's Al Ghul are.

Then he somehow reverted back to a Venom user under the hands of another writer and, worse, became the kind of person he hated - a dealer of Venom. Totally weakened his character.

Bane is one of my favorite villains actually. Along with Hush and Dr. Simon Hurt. That last guy really gives me creeps. He only appeared in two arcs of Batman. The first time he appeared Robin died. The second time in Morrison's Batman R.I.P. arc he made Bruce Wayne addicted to fucking heroin. That's instant win.
And Bane may look like a gorilla, but he's actually one of the smartest villains in comics, it's too bad that Rocksteady used him as a stupid puppet.
That image in the header is from Batman 496 or 497, it was the first comic book I ever read. Fucking awesome.

Man, that happened in Secret Six? Damn, what they were thinking -_-

@Peteru
It's a touchy subject, I mean Batman killing his enemies. The obvious reason is he doesn't want to be like them. On the other hand, Batman obviously is an insane person so he probably wants them to escape so he had someone to fight with. Also, Batman is like main reason most of the villains are what they are. So he's not a cure, I see him as a disease.
