Full disclosure: a Bane spinoff game isn't going to happen anytime soon ... but it sure is a fun topic to think about, right? Right!? In a discussion with VideoGamer, Batman: Arkham Asylum director Sefton Hill pondered what such a project would be like.
"I really think there's scope to take some of those villains, even some of the not-so-famous ones like Bane, who has a phenomenal backstory, and really work on turning that into something original and fresh."
While he admits it would be "less popular," Hill believes that sort of game "could be really interesting and exciting. That could be crazy." So crazy, in fact, that I can hardly fathom the concept.
In closing, Hill didn't give out anything specific on Arkham Asylum 2, but he was willing to promise the studio's continued commitment to dishing out plenty of surprises: "For us as a developer... we're not a mission pack developer. We always want to surprise, we want to come up with something new."
A standalone Bane game? Yes please, says Batman dev [VideoGamer]

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I love you so much right now.
If Rocksteady ever spun-off one of the Batman villans...wow. Do it. Now. And include Harley Quinn somehow.
I'd love game about the comic book version of Bane - both Vengence of Bane series were pretty cool but even DC ruined him as a villain. I think Bane was only good when Chuck Dixon was writing his stories.
Like Silent said, this was the George Clooney Batman and Robin"HULK SMASH" Bane: not the real, intelligent, and crafty Bane that Batman fans know and love.
Anyways a bane game would probably suck even if it stuck to the comics, like When bane was supposed to be batmans brother? WTF. Still I like the direction they went with his character. Personally I thought he was popular but yeah there's plenty of other villans to choose from.
It would be awesome if the game's path combined the book mentioned in my first post with Knightfall. It could start with a tutorial where you'd learn to fight against other prisoners, and work up to where he gets the Venom procedure and breaks out.
He'd then carve a bloody swath through Gotham's underworld as a way of making himself known. One of the centerpieces of the game could be his assault on Arkham Asylum, when he releases Batman's entire rogue gallery.
And the last boss fight could be the best boss fight of all time. Just imagine what a mind fuck it would be for the player to not only defeat Batman, but to have the game end with the scene in the header. It would be even crazier than seeing 007 die in the beginning of Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, because the story would lead into it and give the hero's demise some weight.
All in all, I think Bane could be an excellent lead for a game, possibly even better than Batman himself. He's just as intelligent and capable as the Dark Knight, but with distinct anti-hero tendencies. And who hasn't wanted to snap a few necks while playing the first AA?
One escape, two, fine. Even if you got people killed on the way. You can still hope for the best and just keep these super-villians containted, but at some points - guards will gun every "patient" down and the city will make them heroes.
Also as far as I can believe Batman - being as mad as his enemies - could refrain from killing them, even knowing perfectly well that the will kill again. But saving them when they get on each others throats?
I guess I should just ignore it to appreciate this basically unrealistic IP. But how?
I.. I have to agree with this, if only for the thought of workable team dynamics and a Boomerang/Mirror Master ol' school "glass & shatter combo".
Then he somehow reverted back to a Venom user under the hands of another writer and, worse, became the kind of person he hated - a dealer of Venom. Totally weakened his character.
Also, good on CelicaCrazed. I like.
And Bane may look like a gorilla, but he's actually one of the smartest villains in comics, it's too bad that Rocksteady used him as a stupid puppet.
That image in the header is from Batman 496 or 497, it was the first comic book I ever read. Fucking awesome.
Man, that happened in Secret Six? Damn, what they were thinking -_-
@Peteru
It's a touchy subject, I mean Batman killing his enemies. The obvious reason is he doesn't want to be like them. On the other hand, Batman obviously is an insane person so he probably wants them to escape so he had someone to fight with. Also, Batman is like main reason most of the villains are what they are. So he's not a cure, I see him as a disease.
