The Batman is very pleased this day. His next adventure, Batman: Arkham City, is "complete," playable from start to finish and in need only of some tender polishing.
The information was discovered on a recent OPM podcast (#11 for those who want to hear for themselves), which revealed some exciting new details about the sequel. For one, there's a new grapple system that propels you into the air, which should make for some extended bat flight and some harsh punishment from above.
There was also a discussion of co-op play (which would make sense considering there were previous hints of multiplayer), but nothing is confirmed yet. There's definitely something brewing in the land of multiplayer, but we'll have to wait and see just what it is. I'm sure it involves punching.
It's important to remember that "complete" doesn't mean that the game's going to be in our hands tomorrow, but, you know, I don't even care. Just knowing that all the parts are in place makes my fists ready for bashing. In the best way possible.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Are they retaining the same combat engine as the first game or what?
I can't believe the game is "finished" but I have to wait more than a YEAR to finally play it. Enough with the Batman news....my heart can't take it anymore.
What do I have to do to see this game in action right now??? I'm sure I'll be happy with the polished finished product but I'd kill another person to play it today.
Totally agreed. I particularly would love to see how would it be to play as Zatanna in a game like this. That's unlikely to happen, though.
Maybe everyone else is just finally realizing Robin is a worthless character.
I'm also interested in the inclusion of side missions, which is apparently a thing that is happening. The challenge rooms of the original were fun and the collectibles added depth, but it seems preferable to have the extra gameplay written into the story itself.
Dude, you just made me burst out laughing. I think that may have been the best hangover cure I've ever come across. :D
Just because you can get from start to finish doesn't mean the game looks pretty and it certainly doesn't mean the game won't crash, or glitch in a manner that forces a reboot or dev tools to get a character unstuck from an object or something.
And considering the expectations that are going to follow a game like this, they're going to need that full year to sit back and make sure the game gleams like a sunbeam.
Arkham Asylum was terrific. A real standout game from all the rest. As great as Fallout 3 even IMO.
Rocksteady has the touch, and I hope other developers learn a few things from them.
