Sony has been the punching bag of the games industry for a while now, but it may very well be Rockstar of all companies serving the biggest bitchslap yet. Rockstar spokesman Hosi Simon has essentially said that the full Grand Theft Auto IV experience will require an Xbox 360. He also stated that the games run identical on both systems, being unable to think of any benefits owning the PS3 version will have over purchasing a 360 version.
"They're identical games. We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."
The "I suppose" nonchalantly thrown in at the end almost tries to be non-committal, but this is one of the most blatant statements made against the PS3 yet. Fact of the matter is though, it's true. The 360 is where the exclusive downloadable content shall reside and if you want it, you know which system you need to buy the game for. It's a straight up fact and we all knew it. Looks like the vast piles of nazi gold that Microsoft paid Rockstar are reaping the rewards already.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sony got WTF own3d
Prove it, Rockstar.
But I'll take what I can get.
So yea, I'm not too concerned about the DLC for GTA4...I plan to not buy it anyways
why R*, why?
Hence is the reason why I rarely trust opinion on "identical" when it comes from the company itself. Let some fellows and fellowettes from Destructoid here get their hands on GTA IV and give me the skinny on it then. I trust them more than I trust PR goons.
That's how it rolls out at the end for me. Which version is playable with the least amount of technical difficulties. I can deal with lack of DLC if it plays better on the PS3. I don't typically trust Microsoft when it comes to DLC regardless. They do well, but I don't consider Themes and Gamerpics as being proper "Downloadable Content"..
Bastards.
You are right, though. If it does actually play better on one than the other, there is an obvious reason to go with the PS3 version.
Not to get into this, but I never once experienced lag in The Darkness on the 360, except in multiplayer which happens on the PS3, too.
Me.
Let me rephrase my question. Are you only getting the PS3 version because it is the "PS3" version? If so, that's pretty fanboy.
I like downloadable content that's good. There's no telling if the DLC will be good or bad this time, but I'd rather be assured that I *will* actually get a chance to see for myself.
These are two things the Xbox 360 version has over the PS3 version. I don't care if people aren't interested in those particular extras, but to sniff at ANYTHING extra is a rather silly thing to do, in my opinion.
They got like $50 million from Microsoft to make that exclusive comment, and therefore, push the Xbox 360 version first and foremost.
How are they not pawns? They're Microsoft's whore. I don't see why they're trying to save face. Their face is wearing an S&M mask, while Microsoft is the dominant one having them on their knees and pissing in their mouth.
That aside tho - sleazy companies and their business deals don't mean shit to gamers.
Rock on for the 360 consumers, this is just great news for them that Microsoft did. If I was into GTA, I would buy the 360 instead of the PS3 for this game anyday.
I said I'd at least have the option open rather than exclude myself completely. I'm not going to turn my nose up at extra features that may very well be good.
You are clutching at straws when you have to start redefining words.
that being said,i'm a gamer not a fanboy of either system so i want both systems to be sucessfull,if one system stops being produced it will be bad for all gamers
both the 360 & PS3 are great consoles and will have great games for both.

Seriously, that logic is ..... interesting. Considering how its already being said that the games are going to look equal in terms of quality.
I swear ive heard it all now from the fanboys. 1st it was "we dont want the content"
Then it was "well we will eventually get the content"
Then it was "rockstar wants to give us the content but bill gates has their childrens eyes hostage so they cant"
now its "well the content might suck so im going to gimp myself and buy the graphically indistinguishable from the xbox 360 PS3 version ........ no really, im not a fanboy"
lol.
But for people who don't own a 360, or even a PS3, then I'd think that mystery DLC for GTA4 is hardly enough to sway someone into purchasing a console one way or the other.
In other news, I went to go buy a car the other day, two exact cars, same paint job, everything. Tinted windows so dark I couldnt see inside.
Car dealer said "well, we have car A and car B, both are exactly the same ...... except car B has two girls in the back seat that will be your personal love slaves, of course .... they could either be crazy hot 18 year old asian lolitas or, country bumpkin 300 lb yellow toothed skanks from satans asshole ........"
Well, you know, of COURSE I chose car A. Cause I just dont have the spine to tell two ugly girls to piss off. That just requires too much effort.
So yes. Get the ps3 version. Would hate for your credit card to jump out of your wallet, bich slap you, point at the tv and force you to buy content that reviews say sucked.
I'm a consumer. As a consumer, I like options. On one version, there are confirmed options. On the other version, there are not confirmed options. I'm going to go with the one that has options, because I like choice. Yes, the content might suck, but it might be good too. Since both games outside of that will be the same, I'm losing nothing by buying the game that has the extra choice and stand to gain the chance at adding to my experience with something good, as well as the nifty little side extras like achievements and a more installed online userbase.
Quite how you fail to grasp this very, very simple concept is beyond me. By all means purchase the PS3 version. How you choose to restrict your options is your own business, but I'm amazed that you don't see the benefits of the 360 version. Perhaps I should explain it with Sesame Street characters?
