Rockstar suggests you buy a 360 for the full GTAIV experience: OUCH Sony, OUCH! photo

Sony has been the punching bag of the games industry for a while now, but it may very well be Rockstar of all companies serving the biggest bitchslap yet. Rockstar spokesman Hosi Simon has essentially said that the full Grand Theft Auto IV experience will require an Xbox 360. He also stated that the games run identical on both systems, being unable to think of any benefits owning the PS3 version will have over purchasing a 360 version.

"They're identical games. We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."

The "I suppose" nonchalantly thrown in at the end almost tries to be non-committal, but this is one of the most blatant statements made against the PS3 yet. Fact of the matter is though, it's true. The 360 is where the exclusive downloadable content shall reside and if you want it, you know which system you need to buy the game for. It's a straight up fact and we all knew it. Looks like the vast piles of nazi gold that Microsoft paid Rockstar are reaping the rewards already.

I wonder if they'll actually MAKE episodic content. Only Sam & Max has kept their promise, SiN, Half-Life, and others have failed.

Prove it, Rockstar.

Cool. So PS3 gets MGS4 and we get additional content for GTA4. I don't know if I like this trade.

But I'll take what I can get.

Damn must have felt like he sold his soul, and though saying suppose would help I feel bad for the guy. To bad it really makes little to no sense, why did Microsoft buy two episodes when Rockstar can make as many as they want. Thats like buying something that someone can make more and more of for an extreme price. Guess slaves came with it.

meh, the episodic content will have to be something amazing for me to care. Maybe if there is more emphasis on storyline (looks like it) I will do more than just random prostitute disemboweling though.

I still plan on getting the PS3 version cause I really don't care about the downloadable content. There have been too many times we were promised DLC for a certain game, and then when the time comes, the DLC ends up costing way too much and I don't end up buying it.

So yea, I'm not too concerned about the DLC for GTA4...I plan to not buy it anyways

Hmm maybe its because R* will make a percentage off of the exclusive download sales? 2 words, Horse Armor. I'll still get this for the PS3. <3

i thought there was a story like a month or two ago where R* was praising the PS3 processing power, speaking specifically about GTAIV, and so i figured that it'd look/run better on the PS3... wtf R*? i don't want to support MS here (fuckin' shoddy console makers) but i will if there really is no difference in game quality AND MS has the DLC...

why R*, why?

If the game plays the same on both, but one has additional content, why would you intentionally get the one with less content? Fanboy much?

Gameplay is the largest factor for me... I saw the GTA IV videos, and during most car based scenes, I saw lag... Lag drives me nuts... They said the games were pretty much identical with The Darkness, but I soon found this was not true - as the Xbox 360 version seemed to lag more than the PS3 version...

Hence is the reason why I rarely trust opinion on "identical" when it comes from the company itself. Let some fellows and fellowettes from Destructoid here get their hands on GTA IV and give me the skinny on it then. I trust them more than I trust PR goons.

That's how it rolls out at the end for me. Which version is playable with the least amount of technical difficulties. I can deal with lack of DLC if it plays better on the PS3. I don't typically trust Microsoft when it comes to DLC regardless. They do well, but I don't consider Themes and Gamerpics as being proper "Downloadable Content"..

Dennen, they are getting additional chapters, not themes and gamerpics.

You are right, though. If it does actually play better on one than the other, there is an obvious reason to go with the PS3 version.

Not to get into this, but I never once experienced lag in The Darkness on the 360, except in multiplayer which happens on the PS3, too.

And what about this bullshit with "not fitting on dvd"? DLC may convince people that still have to decide between 360 and PS3. I think every one of us has at least 1 mate that continuously keeps playing Vice City or San Andreas all over again, even if you tell him that there are other games out there? They will think: hey, after I've finished it, I can finish it again but then with new content!

I think I'll wait for the reviews on the game before I decide which version to buy, if any. I don't seem to recall any compelling gameplay vids or any real explanation of what makes this so much better than the stale carjacking, prostitute bashing, stunt driving game we've seen the last three iterations...

Downloadable content: who gives a @#$%! As long as I'm causing havok within the same square mileage as the others, I don't care about the missions. I didn't buy Liberty City OR Vice City stories (exclusive, as they were). Sounds like "Horse Armor" to me.

I like DLC if it's extra missions. I do not like DLC if it's overpriced add-ins like additional outfits or gamerpics. The last DLC I bought was Crackdown. That actually added to my gameplay. I want to support more of that type of DLC.

honestly i wanted to buy the PS3 version because i'm pissed at MS right now b/c my box broke after 6 months of ownership - has nothing to do with fanboyism. however, if both versions are indeed identical, i may go with the 360 version just so that i can have the option of maybe downloading the DLC if it's cool.

Well, um...I don’t have a 360, so I think I’ll be getting the PS3 version. My brother has a 360, though, so I’ll be able to judge the DLC and see if I indeed turn out to be envious of the other version.

I like getting achievement points in games, I think they're nifty.

I like downloadable content that's good. There's no telling if the DLC will be good or bad this time, but I'd rather be assured that I *will* actually get a chance to see for myself.

These are two things the Xbox 360 version has over the PS3 version. I don't care if people aren't interested in those particular extras, but to sniff at ANYTHING extra is a rather silly thing to do, in my opinion.

I don't quite get it.

They got like $50 million from Microsoft to make that exclusive comment, and therefore, push the Xbox 360 version first and foremost.

How are they not pawns? They're Microsoft's whore. I don't see why they're trying to save face. Their face is wearing an S&M mask, while Microsoft is the dominant one having them on their knees and pissing in their mouth.

That aside tho - sleazy companies and their business deals don't mean shit to gamers.

Rock on for the 360 consumers, this is just great news for them that Microsoft did. If I was into GTA, I would buy the 360 instead of the PS3 for this game anyday.

i own both a 360 & PS3 so the whole 360 VS PS3 is a non issue to me but truthfully if a game comes out for both systems i will pretty much always play it on the 360,only because at the moment i prefer the 360 and i've only owned a PS3 for a couple weeks. it was the same way with the last console generation, i always choose the XBOX over the PS2.
that being said,i'm a gamer not a fanboy of either system so i want both systems to be sucessfull,if one system stops being produced it will be bad for all gamers
both the 360 & PS3 are great consoles and will have great games for both.

Why are companies seeming to forget the PSN? Is there any reason why XBL should get the content when PSN is just as capable? Not as pretty to look at mind you, but just as capable.. It seems to me as if they are contradicting themselves. Lets develop the game for both systems to get the most people to buy it, then lets only make the dlc for one console so people will buy that one instead of the other. PSN is there for a reason!! USE IT!!

LOL, so by fanboys logic, since the content could possibly suck and or not be worth the money people should buy the ps3 version instead?

0_o

Seriously, that logic is ..... interesting. Considering how its already being said that the games are going to look equal in terms of quality.

I swear ive heard it all now from the fanboys. 1st it was "we dont want the content"

Then it was "well we will eventually get the content"

Then it was "rockstar wants to give us the content but bill gates has their childrens eyes hostage so they cant"

now its "well the content might suck so im going to gimp myself and buy the graphically indistinguishable from the xbox 360 PS3 version ........ no really, im not a fanboy"

lol.

This argument's become pretty stupid. If people own both consoles then there's no logical reason not to get the 360 version, just so that you have the option of getting the DLC should it turn out to be good.

But for people who don't own a 360, or even a PS3, then I'd think that mystery DLC for GTA4 is hardly enough to sway someone into purchasing a console one way or the other.

Agreed SuMizzle, Dtoid should not post any negative press about sony or any of its related products because that just contributes to the sony flaming.

In other news, I went to go buy a car the other day, two exact cars, same paint job, everything. Tinted windows so dark I couldnt see inside.

Car dealer said "well, we have car A and car B, both are exactly the same ...... except car B has two girls in the back seat that will be your personal love slaves, of course .... they could either be crazy hot 18 year old asian lolitas or, country bumpkin 300 lb yellow toothed skanks from satans asshole ........"

Well, you know, of COURSE I chose car A. Cause I just dont have the spine to tell two ugly girls to piss off. That just requires too much effort.

So yes. Get the ps3 version. Would hate for your credit card to jump out of your wallet, bich slap you, point at the tv and force you to buy content that reviews say sucked.

Arguing with SuMizzle is routinely irksome, since he likes to just overdramatize everything. I am not "foaming at the mouth" for extra content. At least make your sarcasm have some actual basis rather than pull stuff out of your ass.

I'm a consumer. As a consumer, I like options. On one version, there are confirmed options. On the other version, there are not confirmed options. I'm going to go with the one that has options, because I like choice. Yes, the content might suck, but it might be good too. Since both games outside of that will be the same, I'm losing nothing by buying the game that has the extra choice and stand to gain the chance at adding to my experience with something good, as well as the nifty little side extras like achievements and a more installed online userbase.

Quite how you fail to grasp this very, very simple concept is beyond me. By all means purchase the PS3 version. How you choose to restrict your options is your own business, but I'm amazed that you don't see the benefits of the 360 version. Perhaps I should explain it with Sesame Street characters?

I'm thinking when they need to convince you that the two versions are "identical" something just doesn't feel right. My take on this is the PS3 version is the superior one and R* needs to convince people that the 360 version is the same before people find out about this horrible truth. Becuase the 360 is the inferior version that is why R* is making up for it with episodic content, so people won't have buyers remorse over getting the 360 version. For this reason i'll be getting the PS3 version over the 360 version.
