Rockstar patches PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV photo

Own a PlayStation 3 and having an issue with Grand Theft Auto IV's? Rockstar may finally have the fix, having just released a new patch that "prevents Gamespy's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up."

All of that is quite a mouthful, but whatever gets the job done, right? Rockstar says they will continue to monitor performance both on and offline and will provide further updates if necessary.

"We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experience possible," Rockstar said in a statement today. "This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."

So, do you guys accept their apology or what?

is this just patching the online or something? I beat the game without any real problems (save on maybe corrupt save file, but that was my fault).

Fixes the multiplayer, but not the hardware issue.

The PS3 firmware will have to fix that.

Problems I had were all fixed by turning off automatic sign in to PSN. But still, this is nice - much better service than we got from the arsebandits at Konami who STILL haven't fixed Pro Evo. (...and have presumably now just given up and gone to make next years edition. Boycott!)

A better apology would be.

"We apologize for Bull Sh**ing about the problem and for forcing buyers of the game to become Beta-testers."

Never affected me, online or offline, so... whatever.

@BlackDove, What do you mean "hardware issue"? Is there something other than the freezing during load screens going on?

I waited until I could save 10 bucks and pick up a used copy at gamestop. So I finally got one today for the ps3 used! I have a launch 60gb ps3 are there any issues I should be concerned about. Ive played a bit from a rental on the 360 and the loading screens and pop in were last gen to me. Ive heard this is a tad superior on the black beauty.

Well at least I can play online again.

As for any others bugs...has anyone else had really bad frame slowdown. When I am in an open area with cars, people, and other crap going on it's pretty smooth, but when I head into an alley it slows down to about less then 10 FPS! It sucks.

I don't believe the patch was supposed to fix any freezing issues with the game, but it was supposed to fix issues with actually loading into the game and fixing the issues with the gamespy servers causing you not to be able to load the game.

I've had the game freeze once, I just restarted it and it was fine afterwards. The first freeze was early on, I had just completed an early mission, was driving away, with roman talking to me in the car I believe, and I got a call at the same time while driving like a maniac.

Anyone heard of freezing on models other than the 60GB using WiFi? Seems like that's where the problem is, though I never tried wiring up mine to see if the freezing would stop since disabling the internet let it play fine.

I haven't played it offline post-patch, but no freezing online. Those gamespy servers suck ass though, why do people use that crap? Don't they know that gamespy has been 100% crap since they opened shop?
