Rockstar answers your Red Dead Redemption questions photo

Gamers eager to get their hands on Red Dead Redemption have been throwing questions Rockstar's way. What does this mean for us? Answers! Answers to questions not submitted by psychopaths, because I hear the studio has a rigorous screening process -- hence why they won't return my emails.

The questions this week were almost exclusively related to multiplayer. Many were just about game mechanics and the like, which is perfectly fine, but I was more interested in the following: "will we be able to swim?," and "can your horse jump?"

"John has no problem wading," says Rockstar, "but if he gets too deep, he will drown." Huh. As for the second question, your horse can in fact jump and it will even "vault over low objects and avoid other obstacles" automatically.

No joke, the first thing I'm going to do when I get Red Dead Redemption is have my horse leap directly into deep water. Either the horse will A) float, B) drown, or C) glitch out and send us skyrocketing into the air. I sincerely hope it's that last one.

[Thanks, Martin]

Imagine if they had JC2's hook as a lasso replacement! Hook from bison to bison, leaving a trail of mutilated bison behind you while you finally land in a pool of deep water and drown.

from what i understand the horses have self preservation, they wont jump off cliffs etc. so i dont see them jumping into water.

but i would love to caulk my horse and ford the river.

PC port later in 2010 PLEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE.

This is the first as-of-now console exclusive I have desperately wanted since... since... I don't know, years ago.

What fetusmilk said. The horse won't go into deep water, I'm betting.

I think it's kindof retarded that he can't swim. Not that swimming was a big or fun part of GTA4, but the few times I evaded police by diving off the bridge were fun.
I'm sure, though, that if they took it out then it won't come up often enough to be a big deal (how many bodies of water will there be, anyway?), but their reasoning sounds ridiculous. I would imagine a character like Marston who has lived in the wild would know how to swim.

It sounds like they're going to use rivers and such as "natural" territory borders. So not being able to swim makes sense (like in GTA 3 and VC). Better this than the BS in Oblivion..."You cannot continue this direction."

@Guillermo316: Preordering it from GS and I think other retailers gets you the SE automatically. Comes with the preorder bonus costume, extra missions, and the OST, and a nifty cardboard box that's different from the regular box.
True special edition? Sadly no.

Im trying to obtain the US Army outfit in RDR. Therefore one needs to complete several scraps. One of the scraps is completing the stranger mission 'Lights, Camera, Action!'. Now, I have completed this mission (The text 'Lights, Camera, Action! did appeared), but the wardrobe still indicates this strangermission as not completed. So the US Army outfit is not available yet. What do I do?
