Two Capcom employees walked into a bar. Then they fucked a puppy. The end.

delete my messages do what you want I think I'll go smoke some crack, fire up my ps2 megaman collection and die
<insert picture of Capcom shitting on Mega Man fans>
I wanted the rest of the Mavrick hunter X games, but mega man fans refused to back it. You can't damn someone for not bringing out a game, then when they do damn them because its not what you wanted. You want to show Capcom you want a good game, go a head and not buy it. I am quiet sure i know what Capcom will think considering its business in the end and the mega man fans have simply not cowboy'd up in the past when they have show respect *shrugs* You reap what you sow.
You don't want to see the boxes I have that are brimming with Mega Man crap. I spend my money. I'm doing my part. So yes, I CAN damn them because I DID buy their games and music and shirts and toys and comics and books and limited-run candy tins. I can't speak for others, but I most definitely, 100% have that right.
I have, for a long time now, abandoned Capcom for becoming the shit they are. It's time you let go, and maybe someday Capcom will let Mega Man's festering corpse go, too.
That is you, i fully understand you saying such. It is why i did not directly say you but you are one person. Every game series has that kind of fan. Im a shining force fan to the point i have the original game creators art books and insane poetry. I would move heaven and earth for a new Shining force game. The thing is this, outside of you are the people who will shout and scream murder for something and not back it up. As you said, you have the right but in the end it is business and sadly it kinda still sounds like a lot of anger in a odd direction considering the past fan reaction. It's like the anti "Do no wrong" thing going on where no matter what they do, it would be a condemned action by most people right now. I would at least wait just a little to see if its THE ONLY game announced for the anniversary to be honest. If it is the only one, then don't back it, show its not enough and the anger is justified even if you know the reaction from Capcom might be poor. Right? :)
It has nothing to do with fan elitism here. If you don't understand why people are angry, then you're just being a contrarian.
Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man Powered Up were put on the PSP... a system that at the time wasn't doing poorly, but definitely wasn't a must-have. I bought a PSP solely for those 2 games, much like a bought a 3DS solely to support Legends 3, but expecting a fanbase to adopt a system they may not be interested in to support the series is not the best strategy.
Truly, as a fan I have been telling myself I would buy any Mega Man game that comes out next regardless of my real interest just so I could support my favorite series. Well congrats to them for figuring out how to fuck that up. I don't own an iOS device. I literally can't support this game unless I want to get iTunes and buy a game I can't play. And honestly, I'm sadly relieved because this sounds like an only half-polished turd.
What i just said was that if you don't like it. Don't buy it but remember that every action DOES have a reaction. You don't want to get a PSP for megaman alone? Fair enough, but then that kinda still says the point as a LOT of the fans are using the line "I got a 3DS for this game". That is showing a fan following, but during the MML3 incident, the 100,000 fans movement was almost a joke. 100,000 fans wouldn't be enough to recoup the costs at all for that project and they did ask fans to back it with art, ideas and help. It wasn't like it fell for no reason. As such, this seems a lot like capcom just using the brand now. Yes, its junky and crap. Im not gonna lie and say its the best course of action by them. What i am saying is that fan reaction is a hell of a lot sharper then it should be considering a vast amount of the people crying haven't exactly stood up and shown a united front in the past. It's simply capcom being a business now, not a fan-force. It's not nice, but its the truth sadly.
By it I mean the comadreams us megaman fans will eventually have after we stroke out.
Maverick Hunter X flopped because it was released for the PSP in a time the system was flooded with remakes and 4 year old console ports with little extra content.
On the other hand, Mega Man Zero on the GameBoy Advance did well enough to get 3 sequels, and a DS recollection, while the ZX at least got one followup.
Then we have the downloadable Megaman 9 which sold wellenough that it got a sequel made in 10.
The fact is, it wasn't the fans that killed the Maverick Hunter or Legends series by not supporting them, it was Capcom for not believing in them.
This is just the final proof people needed: an iOS game for the 25th anniversary celebration.
Woopity doo.
Now, I won't talk further about this game in particular, though I do feel that it looks rather... iffy, to say the least. I will, however, mention how bad of an idea it is to release it NOW. If it's a prelude to other 25th anniversary releases, then it's a poor prelude, doing nothing more than angering the clientele. If it's being released simply for the sake of making money, that's fine. I don't agree with it, but it's something they can do. Using the 25th anniversary to promote it, however, is a bad move on their part.
So I can understand Capcom doing this, but that doesn't mean I'm not disappointed.
I only feel bad for the Capcom Unity peeps who are going to get so much hate mail for this, though Capcom of Japan is the one firing crap all over the place. +1 for Japanese being out of touch.
Someone give some addresses. I have desks to shit on.
Dtoid's reviews of the Mega Man Zero Collection, Mega Man 9, and Mega Man 10. Enjoy.
I just deleted The Mega Man Network and Protodude's Rockman Corner off of my bookmarks... sites that I used to check daily. I just don't think I have it in me anymore to pretend there's any sort of future for the Blue Bomber.
Are you suggesting that Destructoid as a whole needs to make a stand against Capcom? Doing what? Not reporting on Capcom games anymore or something? Because we kinda can't actually do that.
Tony, you're spot-on in your feelings, and this comes from a guy with a Megaman 1-up head tattoo as his only piece of non-melanin marking on his skin. I, however, have let Capcom as a company go, not just Megaman as a flagship character. Excel is 100% correct in this fact: in order to effect any real change in the industry and to get what you want, you're going to have to actually boycott Capcom and fucking mean it.
Now, Dtoid cannot do this, as it is not their job to take sides, Dtoid's job is to report and make news stories like this heard. It is up to THE CONSUMERS WHO SPEND MONEY to take the stand, stop buying all of their products, their licensed crap, their digital re-releases, their disc-based games, their iOS turds, all of it. They cannot make a red cent in order for them to start panicking.
Let's look at the track record as of recent, as of canceling not one, not two, but THREE MEGAMAN GAMES:
- releasing Ultimate MvC3 just 9 months after the original, pissing off many who purchased the special edition for collectability's sake
- releasing Street Fighter X Tekken, a game filled with so much DLC cashgrab mentality that they thought they could convince people that paying for the game twice meant you could have everything already on on the disc
- releasing Mega Man X on iPhone, making it play and look like a pimpled asscheek, and then offering to sell you the ability to get all the items and weapons, which defeats the fucking purpose of even playing your fucking Mega Man game
- and last, but certainly not least, releasing classic Megaman soundtracks in a collectable E-Tank tin, publishing comic books, hell, making GODDAMN AIR FRESHENERS out of Megaman characters completely convinced that this course of action will generate far more sales than a proper, new Mega Man title
- DmC (god, that fucking title sucks) and everything that it looks to be seems to be mediocre at best
- Seth Killian left Capcom (and when you look at the track record, you can't help but wonder why)
- Announced a new Lost Planet game, as if that was what people wanted
Capcom doesn't give a fuck about its fans anymore. If you think they do, take a look at the actual charts and graphs. They. Do. Not. Care.
And the reason they can get away with it is because someone keeps buying enough copies of their shit-the-bed business decisions that they can safely assume that their fans and loyal customers are fucking retarded. And you know what? You can't really blame them, judging from some of the commentary on this thread.
On topic, I feel bad for you Megaman fans, I genuinely do. I've nothing against the Blue dude, don't get me wrong, it's just that my favourite interpretation of the him is the Battle Network spin-offs, so I'll happily admit to not being a 'megaman fan'. But you know what Capcom franchise is was a MAJOR fan of?
Breath of Fire.
And when that game came to the PS2 all those years ago, it was an ENOURMOUS turd that buried one of my all time favourite JRPG franchises. Seriously, the only game that I loved more then BoF4 back in the day was FF7. So I know how it feels to be dicked in a manner by Capcom, I do.
I know these feels bros. I know them.
To be fair, Capcom isn't directly responsible for the Mega Man merch machine. Those are usually requested by other parties; Capcom only grants the license. The comics are made by Archie, the D-Arts X figures by Bandai, and the silly air fresheners by Epic-Scents. Even the music albums are produced by an off-shoot company called Suleputer, although recent albums have also been put out by IntiCreates.
All Capcom has to do in those cases is sign off on the product. It really isn't any effort on the company's part.
