Rock Band Web site offers band merch photo

One of the features that was talked about a little bit back when the first Rock Band came out was the ability to design your own band merch and even have figurines of your customized characters made. The Rock Band Web site has been updated now to allow just that.

Syncing up with your gamertag, it gathers the information on all of your characters and bands and allows you to make a wide range of the stuff actual bands sell at shows. T-shirts, posters, bumper stickers, keychains and buttons are all available, emblazoned with your character and/or band logo.

I took a moment to fiddle around with the generator and it's really easy to use regardless of what you're trying to make. Just select the character or band, pose them and submit your choices. You'll get a preview of what the final product will look like and be given the option to purchase it. The photo above are members of my band, Shubby and The Thousand Young (left to right: Howard Phillips and Escarcho) designed as figurines.

Pricing ranges from $2-$5 for the smaller stuff, while posters will run you $14 and a t-shirt $29. The figurines, which measure 6" and are not poseable (beyond what the site's utility for designing them allows), are $69.

Does this sort of merchandising interest you? $29 is a little steep for a t-shirt, in my opinion, but the keychains and buttons could be neat tchotchkes to have. There's a press release with more details after the jump.

This is really neat stuff. I finally got a little scratch together and got RB2 today, so I'm looking forward to playing with the new merch features tomarrow.

I can certainly see myself getting a poster or something. While I wouldn't buy a figure for myself, I can see myself getting one as a gift someday.

I really like their vaulting ambition when it comes to taking the game beyond the disc, between the assloads of DLC and the merch, it is something else.

Huh! The only reason I'm commenting is to laugh in EA's face. Why? Because I'll be playing GH:WT instead of playing RB (1.o) down here in Auz when it finally gets released, in a months time. So thanks for sucking so-much EA. lol! You never even got me excited for you.

Though Cudos on the Custom Figures. That I CAN buy into.

This is a neat way to make a little profit without affecting gameplay via pricey downloadables. I just wonder how it works on an economy of scale. Do they make a lot more than they spend? If so, at what costs to the workers, I wonder?

It's not something I would do, but if people love it, at least it doesn't take away from anybody's in-game experience.

My wife and I were kinda excited for this. But a) our band name is a bit offensive and won't come up on the site, and b) $30 is a bit pricey for a shirt, and $70 is definitely out for an unposeable 6" piece of plastic.

As someone who really wanted a WoW figureprint, the) figures look pretty cool.

Maybe I'll have my band leader figure atop my bookshelf next to my Rogue WoW figure?

$70 for a 6-inch, non-poseable figure made from a menu of preset choices?

Thank god we aren't in a recession, or I might question the value here.

yeah i agree skribble, total do NOT want. rock band really isn't that serious enough of a game to me to make me want their merch. especially at such a steep price tag. and besides if i wanted to make shirts and stickers for my band, i'd just do it myself. that's way more punk rock and buying shit through a company. and there's way cooler figures i see on tomopop everyday that i'd rather spend my money on.

I understood the appeal to get WoW figurine;you spend months leveling up you character making it a super personal part of your gaming experience in WoW. These characters are made from a set of menu items they arn't personal at all and can be made identical by anyone.

You know what I want? All my instruments replaced...for some reason they are all FRIED now. I have a feeling it was that piece of garbage powered usb hub. Now all of my instruments are dead and won't power up no matter what usb port I plug them into...

Pretty happy with Rockband!.....

I dunno if I really want all this Rock Band crap. I'm sure plenty of casuals will froth at the mouth over these things, though.

I don't think it's a matter of casual vs. hardcore, but rather someone addicted to rock band vs. everyone else.

Actually, all of the decalled art that you place on your charcter will show up on your figurine so your bandmate will have all of the decal based art will be on your figure. There is a little more individuality then what everyone here is implying.
