Rock Band not real enough? Try the Rock Band stage kit photo

Remember the Rock Band stage kit which was first revealed back in January? Well, it looks like it's finally going to start showing up in people's homes. The kit produced by Performance Design Products, consisting of a fog machine and multi-color strobe light (which flashes to the music), will retail for $99. The accessory is only available for the 360 but will be compatible with both versions of Rock Band.

This is really stupid. Who on Earth is going to buy this thing? If I'm going to spend another hundred bucks on an accessory for Rock Band that isn't used in the actual playing of the game, it had better come with D-cups and the capability to suck a golf ball through a garden hose. That would be bringing the rock and roll experience into the living room.

Not entirely sure on exactly when this will be in stores, as I've seen at least three different release dates on various retailers. I think it's probably safe to say it should be arriving in November, however, just in time for moron parents to buy it for their spoiled kids.

Honestly, I can see this as being pretty fun. I don't know that I'd spend $100 on it, but it would add an air of epicness to Rock Band parties that I think could be fun.

I'd like a fog machine and strobe light. Especially since Rock Band/Guitar Hero are awesome when you're fucked up enough to really want to play.

You could probably get both of those for less than 100 bucks and make them less stupid.

I have mine pre-ordered and paid for.

Looks like a big waste of a port to me.

I gotta applaud the "full metal jacket" reference.

and i gotta dissaprove of the product on the article because it's totally lame.

Waste of a port, Carl? Rock Band comes with a USB hub that brings the 360's total USB count to five, so even if you had all four instruments with wires, you'd still have one port open. Unless, of course, you wanted to keep your XBox Live Vision Camera plugged in, despite having no Rock Band functionality.

...why is there a controller pad on the strobe light?

It would be fun to have a fog machine, I'd just have it going in my room all the time.

@pendelton21: if I recall correctly (which is probably not the case), you can use it to control the vocal menus instead of a regular 360 controller.

The strobe light would be cool. The fog machine, however, likely uses a fuel that leaves a residue on everything in your room. No franks.

Do want it... We have rock band parties at my house all the time this would make the experience that much more epic. Compared to the 3 hundred on the Rock Band 2 disc and all new instruments not to mention the money I spent on the original Rock Band bundle and the hundreds of dollars in DLC, (I have all the songs, like I said Rock Band Parties) this 100 dollars will seem like nothing for the atmosphere it would add. I'd say it's money well spent if you want the full experience.

I saw this on Inside XBox a couple weeks back, and while the idea is good, it just looked kinda sad and pathetic. The strobe light is just a tiny little thing. Wouldn't you need, like, dozens of them to really recreate the rock'n'roll feeling?

As for the smoke machine, here's a cheaper alternative: Metal trash can, old phone books, and a box of matches. Not only will you get your smoke, you'll be nice and warm.

I would love to have this, but I'd never pay $100 for it. Or $10, even. Maybe for five bucks......

But seriously, I've been trying to find videos or something of this for a while now, because I always thought it was out and just hard to find.

@Dexter, I'll have to concede to that point. But, still, a useless product in my books.

The sad thing is this is probably going to sell really well, and everyone will use it once or twice.

I think it's full of fail, but then again I never saw the why everyone liked Rock Band so much in the first place.

I want to get this just so I can play games while blinding myself in the face with a strobelight. It can add to the controllers I've played Castle Crashers with (already used the Drums and Guitar).

That's really expensive for something like that - unless you were planning to actually make money on the road with your Rock Band mates, or youtube videos...

In my personal opinion, I'd vote nay on this expensive addition.

Could be fun, but looks like useless junk to me. Not sure f anyone reported this already but I thought I heard on the radio the other day that there is going to a be a reality based Rock Band TV show. I know I almost spit up my morning coffee when I heard it. I heard that Alice Cooper will host, groups of reality morons "compete" with the worst team getting voted off every week. The last 2 will compete and the winner will have Alice Cooper sing with them or something, and I'm guessing a money prize too.

Mainstream media taking all the joy out of a fun game.

I love Strobe Lights, and I can use the Fog Machine for other things.

I might get this, especially if it sees a price drop.

Fog machine = useful for stuff other than Rock Band.

Strobe light = good for distracting mentally deficient siblings.

All in all I (grudgingly) approve this product and/or service.

I almost want to buy this, just for the hell of it. I mean, I did spend $100 after shipping on an omega pedal for the game. And yet...I live in a dorm and will most likely get kicked out if I use that fog machine; I could also use the money to finish up getting all the DLC (only short on the Motley Crue album and about 40 singles).

Although this is really really lame if you think about it (a fake stage to go alongside fake music instruments for $300+ total?), it might be cool for a NARP or something? :)

God I love self-righteous people that come out of the woodwork to smugly insult a popular game.

I could see this being fun. Nowhere near $100 worth of fun, but fun.

I'm going to buy it simply because I host rockband nights at my local college where a lot of people come out to play(mostly sing.)

This will amp up the effects, and I feel douche baggy enough to get it :[

My friends and I used a fog machine last year during a couple of guitar hero party's, the fog machine would take a couple of minutes to warm up and then right in the middle of Smoke on the Water it would kick on and start coming in across the floor making the song even more epic. One problem we had was finding more of the fog liquid stuff and we did wonder if maybe it wasn't the best thing for the lungs, but shit it sure was fun.

I got the chance to test drive this stage kit and I'm a little on the fence about it.

The stage light is actually pretty cool when you adjust it right and turn the lights off, but the fog machine went off way too many times and the strobe light never went off enough.

Best thing for this setup is to get a group of friend together in a large room and hook this sh@t up for one cool house party, but otherwise it just pumps out too much smoke and you can't see the TV to rock out.

I'm amused that the strobe light has a controller interface on it.

"I call guitar!"

"I call drums!"

"I call...the strobe light?"

It would be fun to mess around with...but at $100, I'll pass.

If you think it's lame don't buy it...and if you have the extra money to burn go for it. To me it's like a Star Wars fan and a Star Trek fan arguing over which is more geeky.
In my opinion spending $150 on Rockband in the first place is spoiled and/or stupid, when you could buy a cheap guitar and "how to play" book for that price...but people do, because it's ton's of fun.

Like cerebral assassin said, this WOULD make Rock Band parties way more awesome. SO if you, or you and your friends want to make the purchase..awesome...
...
just don't expect people NOT to make fun of you :)
