Rock Band Metal Track pack finally announced photo

Harmonix and MTV Games have announced today that it will be releasing a standalone Rock Band Metal Track pack this October. Your neighbors are not amused.

The disc will feature 20 tracks, including six tracks previously unavailable on the Rock Band Music Store:  Blue Öyster Cult' "Transmaniacon MC"; Hawkwind's "Master of the Universe"; I Mother Earth's "Levitate"; Motörhead's "Killed by Death"; Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog"; and Rage Against The Machine's "Bulls on Parade." Seems like the "metal" label is a bit broad here, as this one's a bit all over the place, if you ask me. (Note: No one actually asked me.)

All this for $29.99. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners rejoice -- you can dump these tracks to your hard drive for use in Rock Band or Rock Band 2, as you could with the other track packs. Wii Rock Band 2 owners, well... I don't know what to tell you. You can store your DLC on SD Cards now?

If this Metal Track Pack sounds familiar, it's because it was leaked way back in June by way of Xbox 360 achievements. But the full track list is now available for your perusal, and it can be found after the jump.

Songs exclusive to the track pack for a limited time only appear in bold, because an asterisk just isn't enough. Also, dibs on Mr. Dibs when playing the Hawkwind track:

All That Remains - "Two Weeks"
At the Gates - "Blinded By Fear"
Black Tide - "ShockWave"
Blue Öyster Cult - "Transmaniacon MC"*
Bullet For My Valentine - "Waking the Demon"
Children of Bodom - "Are You Dead Yet"
Evile - "Thrasher"
Godsmack - "I Stand Alone"
The Haunted - "D.O.A."
Hawkwind - "Master Of The Universe"*
I Mother Earth - "Levitate"*
In This Moment - "Forever"
Judas Priest - "Screaming for Vengeance"
Lacuna Coil - "Closer"
Lamb of God - "Laid to Rest"
Motörhead - "Killed by Death"*
Nazareth - "Hair of the Dog"*

Queens of the Stone Age - "3’s & 7’s"
Rage Against The Machine - "Bulls On Parade"*
Yngwie Malmsteen - "Red Devil"

@Nick Chester:: Do you think that the "metal" label is a little broad for this selection of tracks? (Now somebody's asked you)

Wait, what? 30 bucks for 20 songs? That's kinda... rip off. Considering you can pretty much buy RB1 and 2 (standalone) for the same price and they come with what, 80-90 songs each?

Harmonix guy 1: Is this stuff Metal?

Harmonix guy 2: Does it have teh drums, teh distortions, and teh weird vocals?

Harmonix guy 1: Oh ya. Check.

Harmonix guy 2: Then ya. It's teh Metal.

FAIL

@The Prodigal Son:

Yes, yes I do. Thanks for asking! :D

@Aurion:

Definitely, but considering the DLC (single tracks) are priced at $1.99, 20 tracks would normally cost $40. So you know, $10 discount, right? But I see your point. Activision's "we're going to release a new game every 6 months" argument was partially "it's a better value for the consumer." When you look at it that way, it does appear so. But for those who prefer the cherry-picking DLC method, $30 is reasonable for 20 tracks... provided you'd buy them anyhow.

Finally I can rock some LOG. Laid to Rest is a good song... but they could have picked a better one. And I Stand Alone...fuck yes.

So, I just got word from someone close to MTV Games that the studio is closing down. Kaput. Finito. You heard it here first. Hey, Destructoid! Now can I have a job? I work cheap!!!

@H4RDC0RP5 you can download Laid to Rest from the music store now. In fact, except for the new songs in bold I have just about all the other ones. How could they not put The Black Dahlia Murder's song on that pack? One of my favorite songs to play.

Somehow I find it incredibly strange to see Queens of the Stone Age up there.

Still, I already own most of this pack. So yeah.
You didn't really need to know that though.

Bulls On Parade? Finally. I don't like Rage but I was wondering how long until that song came along.

Killed By Death, other than having one of the most hilarious titles in history, is right up my alley. More Motorhead!

The only one I want to play on this list is #s & 7s, and I'm not entirely sure that's metal. Say Nick, would you say this is a pretty broad categorization of "metal"? Don't you think it's all over the place?

Gah, I read the header and was like "HELLS YES" and then I read the songlist...
Bleh. I like Lacuna Coil and Godsmack, but I already bought the songs, so...no real point here.

I saw the headline and thought "fuck yes" until I saw that I pretty much already have all those songs. And the only new ones(in bold) are ~meh. Leave it to HMX to fuck up the metal pack.

[WTB] Lamb of God - 11th Hour (plz.)

@Nick
Yeah, I getcha. But as other shave said, this seems to be a pretty weak bunch of tracks. I mean, where's the Death or Black Metal? Where's the Prog? Hell, they could've at least thrown in the other, better Metal tracks for download on the store, like Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse and Whitechapel (Deathcore).

They could've even took some of the lesser tracks in that pack out (like BFMV and Godsmack) and replaced them with those aforementioned better tracks. I 'unno, this just seems really odd that they'd pass up actual Metal in favour of crappy Nu Metal and Metalcore. Bah, call me elitist, but this just stinks...

There's no way that track pack is metal. I don't see any Nickelback listed.

Did I make a "more like meh-tal" joke back when it was leaked? If not, I'm doing it now.

But then, I do like me some Rage Against the Machine. I didn't realize there were more tracks by them.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWKWIND

Honestly, I wasn't expecting either of the franchises to have a Hawkwind track on just about ever. That and the soon-to-be-released Would? are helping to make RB even more enjoyable. Have to say, though, I'm amazed that they didn't go with Silver Machine, I'd have thought that was the more well-known Hawkwind track?

Hmm, not as good as I had hoped. And WTF I Mother Earth? I admit I haven't heard the song in question, but last I remember of them was 90s alternative stuff like 'one more astronaught' - unmetal.

Hey Lemon, 3s & 7s is available for DLC if you didn't know.

I only want Bulls on Parade, don't give a fuck about the rest other than 3s & 7s...which I have as DLC.
