Rock Band DLC: HIM, Marilyn Manson, The Police, and more photo

Before I go any further with next week's Rock Band DLC announcements, a word from Brad Nicholson: "'The Dope Show' is the dumbest Manson song you could put in a game."

HIM Pack 01 ($5.49/440 MS Points for pack, $1.99/160 MS Points/200 Wii Points per song)

  • "Heartkiller" +
  • "Ode to Solitude"
  • "Wings of a Butterfly"

Single tracks ($1.99/140 MS Points/200 Wii Points per song)

  • KSM - "Distracted" +
  • Marilyn Manson - "The Dope Show"
  • One Night Only - "Just For Tonight" +
  • The Police - "Walking on the Moon" +

+ denotes the song is also available for download in LEGO Rock Band.

Let us know if you agree with Brad in the comments, or if you think "The Dope Show" is the smartest Manson song you could put in a game. I mean, it won a freakin' Grammy. That means it has to be good! As Crawdads Revenge points out in the comments, "The Dope Show" was nominated for (but did not win) a Grammy. Maybe Brad was right after all.

They should have put "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" in. That song's so good.

I'd be happy with a full MM back catalogue!

There is a big Manson shaped hole in my rockband tracklist.

I'm with Brad on this one. I can count all the Manson songs I like on one hand with room to spare, and this isn't one of them.

Also, "Dope Show" was nominated but I don't think it actually won the Grammy.

Agreed, poor choice of song. Since when does winning a Grammy mean a song is good, anyway?

Grammys don't mean shit. Basically all they mean is "you win flavor of the month." That's about all I see them as.

I'm surprised Beautiful People still isn't on there. Actually I'm surprised there isn't more Marylin Manson in general.

But yeah, those are some terrible songs.

I like The Police, but I don't think 'Walking on the Moon' is a particulary interesting song for Rock Band. It's a great song anyway, just not one I can really see a bunch of people playing along to.

Yeah where the fuck is Beautiful People? I'm also surprised his cover of Nightmare Before Christmas still hasn't made it as any Halloween DLC.

God I hate Marilyn Manson's music. He's a cool jack and all but his music blows so hard. I think it tries too hard. His movie looks like the shit though if and when it ever comes out.

So can we agree that Harmonix sucks, now? Well for this and censoring songs.

The Police song is very surprising and a favorite of mine off of that album, but I really do not think it has a place in Rock Band. It's so slow and easy.

Portrait of an American Family is an amazing album, I'd bet most people who aren't fans of his music haven't even heard one song off it. I'm guessing there isn't more Manson because of the cussing. What's the point if you have to edit every third line from a dirty word. Personally, I don't think the downloadable tracks should be edited. They should have a very clear disclaimer on the tracks that say it contains offensive lyrics. Then there's always that "ERSB can't rate online interactions" or what have you.

I'd love me some Lunchbox or Dope Hat.

Speaking of missing artists, where the hell are The Tragically Hip? Those boys are Canadian pride I tells ya !

Well you can't blame them for censoring songs. They have to keep the DLC within their Teen rating or else the ESRB will force them to re-rate it.

For the record, I'll accept full album DLC from the following: Potrait of an American Family, Antichrist Superstar, and Golden Age of the Grotesque.

I've already spent way too much money on Rock Band 2. I feel my music game phase has come to an end.

Unless the release some Beck or Arctic Monkeys.

Shit as fuck week, but Walking on the Moon makes up for it.

The DLC has also been shit lately, there hasn't been a "HOLY FUCK EVERYTHING INSTA-BUY" week in a loooong time. BUT, with all these rumors I've heard, like The Wall coming to Rock Band, and Jimi Hendrix, U2, and The Who also coming to Rock Band, I have a feeling that the other RB game being released this year will be Rock Band 3, and it will have the best setlist in the history of rhythm games.

Son of a bitch. I can live with this MM, but I'm still waiting for more Harvey Danger. Specifically, Flagpole Sitta. Wine, Women and Song could satisfy me as well.

@GuitarAtomik: That's my problem with Harmonix is the cop out of 'oh we're a family game!' This is what's keeping them from being a better developer/publisher(EA). We all know an 'M' Rated RockBand wouldn't sell as much as the kiddie version but holy fuck are they slaughtering the Artist's original vision when they censor some songs or don't even include whole songs/bands because of their style/choice of words.

Rammstein you are aware that most of the censored version of the songs are also the radio versions the artist edit themselves right?

Harmonix is doing nothing to do artist original vision. Not saying "fuck," does nothing to ruin any original vision.

Try harder mate.

You know how I feel mate. You don't like something genuinely don't like it but don't stomp around with a bullshit cause. Leave the rest of us alone. We're too busy having fun to pick apart little things to bitch about.

They don't really have a choice though. Their only option is to release a separate Rock Band (ala Lego Rock Band) that's Mature rated and, as you mentioned, that's not too business savvy. Especially considering DLC for that wouldn't be able to be compatible with the main series.

I guess they could try to make future Rock Bands or DLC have an option to switch between the censored and un-censored but trust me (as someone who has messed with the tools they use to make these tracks) it's not nearly as easy or cheap as you might think.

I really think the T rating is a good compromise.

Manson tracks I'd like to see:

Tourniquet
Antichrist Superstar
1996
Rock is Dead
Angel With The Scabbed Wings
Valentine's Day
Mobscene
Vodevil

Manson tracks I don't want to see:

Dope Show

...yep.

@ZeeJayTL: Yes. I would rather not have the song at all.

Its a slippery slope of censorship. It starts with censoring single words, then whole songs, then whole bands. I spent a shit ton on DLC as well before I got sick of RockBand and I was the Singer/Bassist most of the time and it just sucked singing songs that were censored. Creep(Radiohead) comes to mind. Tom York's emotion and feelings are completely neutered in the) version just so little timmy won't ask mommy what 'fucking' means. And then there was one of my favorite Killswitch Engage songs, 'My Curse' that was just...I don't even have the advanced vocabulary to properly word how fucking horrible the in-game version was.

But I guess I'm SOL.

Are you serious Rammstein? Are you serious?

If you get that butthurt over not saying the word "Fuck," in a god damn game that doesn't penalize you for saying it anyway I can't imagine the day-to-day logic you use to get by.

Seriously though. You need to grow up.

I mean this:

It starts with censoring single words, then whole songs, then whole bands.

What are you talking about?

If the song is too obscene they won't use it. Duhr. If the band has nothing but obscenity in every line of their songs (see: probably a shitty band) then yeah they're not getting into Rock Band.

If you don't like music games Rammstein just don't like music games. It's okay. Nobody is doing it wrong and that's the reason you don't like music games. It's just not your scene. Don't be a troll about it.

Really though man.

A) That's exactly how the radio version is and that's exactly how they sing it when they played it live on tv/talk shows.

B) You're exaggerating. The changing of one word (at least in that song) does not completely ruin it all or change the meaning. Also, you realize you can just sing "fuck" instead. No one is stopping you. Hell, you can sing whatever you want.

@Xzyliac: I know RockBand is your jam, and I did kinda grasp for straws a bit but the overall message is still valid. I'm not hating on Harmonix just for the sake of it, I'm just sick of their stance on the matter. I used to idle the Official unofficial IRC channel and most of the people in there were blind/sheep and anyone who brought up valid complaints became a pariah. That, coupled with the official Harmonix responses to these concerns just turned me off from them. And if I'm turned off by Harmonix, the best in the music game genre, what do you think that does for me and the rest of the rythm game genre? ActiBlizzard sure as hell aint picking up the slack.

But I digress, I read (most of) your RockBand c-blogs and understand that I am, in essence, fucking with your bread and butter, so for the sake of saving face I will just stfu now.

No I accept Harmonix complaints. I have complaints too. In fact I agree HMX has sold out. I don't care, but I agree with it.

I'm not offended or anything. It just bothers me when people can't just not like something.

But yeah, HMX has totally sold out and one of the big issues with the RB forums is the rampant fanboyism. What do you expect though?

Anyways, I'm not a Harmonix fanboy. I'm a music game fanboy. I know HMX fucks up on a regular basis. This year especially. I mean I see why they do what they do, but it's still boneheaded. Sure there's a big request for Green Day in Rock Band but GR:RB is a little far.

Hendrix though! I'd forgive them for Hendrix.

@frozenbabylon - I really didn't like GAG either (except the title track, mainly because it's weirder sounding) but it was way more guitar driven than, say, Mechanical Animals...would make more sense to include it in Rock Band.

They really need to put something from Portrait or Antichrist Superstar on, but I'd imagine they'd be scared of Fox News getting hold of "Video game pushing Satanism on our kids" BS...
