Rock Band DLC coming to Wii and PS2 as retail disc this July [Update]

12:42 PM on 05.05.2008, Nick Chester 23 comments

     PlayStation 2

PlayStation 2 and Wii owners can whine all they'd like about getting some downloadable content for their respective versions of Rock Band. But guess what? It's not happening. However, Harmonix and MTV Games have announced a solution today in the form of a retail disc, Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1, which will hit shelves on July 15 for $29.99.

The disc will include 20 tracks, which puts each song at $1.50, slightly cheaper (in most cases) than the DLC available for Xbox 360 and PS3. The songs included are all songs that are available via the in-game Rock Band Music Store, including tracks from Faith No More, Paramore, Grateful Dead, and more.

The full list of tracks available on the Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 can be found after the jump.

[Update: To clear up any confusion, I contacted a Harmonix rep who clarified that this game is not a standalone disc, and will require the original software to run. I'm trying to get information on how exactly that will work, and I'll be sure to update when and if I get more details.]

[Update 2: It appears there has been some confusion and that this disc will indeed be a standalone game that will not require the original Rock Band software to play.]

30 Seconds to Mars - The Kill
All American Rejects - Move Along
Blink-182 - All the Small Things
Boston - More Than a Feeling
David Bowie - Moonage Daydream
Faith No More - We Care A Lot
Grateful Dead - Truckin’
The Hives - Die, All Right!
KISS - Calling Dr. Love
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
Nine Inch Nails - March of the Pigs
Oasis - Live Forever
Paramore - Crushcrushcrush
The Police - Synchronicity II
Queens of the Stone Age - Little Sister
Ramones - Teenage Lobotomy
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siva

Nick, to answer your question from my blog. I saw this in the news section of the site. I just used the forum post as a source. I have other methods of getting Rock Band info.

Nick, I own every DLC song presented so far. I think that would be safe to say, that I really like this game.

Why don't they do this on the 360/PS3 too? I'm sure people would buy discs with a ton of DLC if it was cheaper than downloading it, even if half the tracks were crap. Look at cd's. Oh wait...

SD as a main storage device is kinda always a bad idea, since they are not the most stable thing in the world (they erase themselves after a few months of being left out of devices) and nintendo does need to put out some fucking hard drive device

At least they're doing something to make us Wii people feel bette; besides, I was planning on buying the game anyway- now my decision is justified. Sort of.

Wait, so you have to put in an entirely separate disk in order to play twenty something songs, and then have to switch back in order to play all the rest?

Sounds like a great deal, I'll get right to buying it after I chip my dick off.

...EA should have refused to release it... Like that would ever have happened.

I was annoyed when I first read the headline, but this actually sounds like a good idea. Anything that helps kill off Guitar Hero is okay by me.

...Eh, I guess that's a little better.

Still miffed that we have to pay full price for the bundle though, so I made up my mind not to buy it a while back. But this makes EA seem slightly less of an asshole to us Wii owners.

I think it could be rockin' if they would press your own disk for you. Like you log onto their website and choose 30 songs from their online store and they burn a disk for you that works on your Wii or PS2 so you aren't stuck with songs you don't like... That or maybe they could just make online capablilties for the Wii...

While this is nice, they still removed the character creation and world tour mode. I can do without world tour, but there's something to be said for creating a band of all Star Trek characters.
