Rock Band demos hit Best Buy, seriously invade Guitar Hero's space photo

Kotaku is reporting that some Best Buy stores have already received their Rock Band demo kits.

Great timing, as Guitar Hero III is street dated for tomorrow. Sure, it's great news that you can run to your local store and play now, but that's not the best part. It seems that Best Buys' internal marketing team thought it would be a good idea to set up the demo on top of the area that is home to the Guitar Hero franchise. Ouch.

The Xbox 360 demo features 15 playable songs, but the drums reportedly have no bass pedal. We're not quite sure how that's going to work out, but it could be damaging to sales when no one can actually complete a song.

Put on some pants, get to your local Best Buy, and let us know if you have any luck finding the demo in your stores.

I hate kids like that. When the 360 first launched, I wanted to play it for a few minutes, to try it out. There was a kid in front of me, playing CoD4 for 30 minutes. When he finally left, I played, and after five minutes, the idiot asked when it was his turn again. Fuck kids, yay condoms.

Man, this makes me wish I went in for work last night. I know that as of Tuesday, my Best Buy didn't get the demo. We're putting GH3 demos up tomorrow, though.

I haven't played Rock Band yet but won't medium difficulty only use the 4 drums/buttons like in Guitar Hero?

At least that kid is playing, I hate it way more when they're just pressing random buttons and don't have a clue on wtf they have to do.

I'll go to best buy tomorrow and see if they have it to give it a try.

The easiest difficulty used the bass pedal, at least every time I've played it.

I'd love to go out and get this game - it's real frickin' awesome. Trouble is me being in the UK, it would cost a fortune to get just the game and 1 instrument and as there several instruments I'd have a very hard time choosing which 1 (the drums seems to appeal most right now).
I was concerned that there wouldn't be an online multilayer / co-op, however on further research online multiplayer is supported so I may have to reconsider my decision not to get this game. Even if I don't I'll be quite content with GH3. Until my mates start raving on about how good it is...

@Simmy: For now, they’re only selling the bundle with a guitar, mic, and drums (at least, that’s the situation in the US...dunno about across the pond). They will eventually sell the instruments individually, but not until sometime early in 2008.

Yeah, I actually went to the Best Buy on 23rd St. & 6th Ave. this morning and was amazed to see Rock Band there on the 50" Samsung plasma they have in the gaming department. Sadly, I was running late (I got there at 11:15 and had to catch an 11:40 train out of Penn), so I couldn’t stop to play it. Oh well...some other time.

yeah, they had it at our local BB. i just happened to swing in there to grab a movie and it was indeed set up right on top of the guitar hero display.

i then proceeded to crush tom sawyer on expert difficulty (completed at 96%), much to the bystander's amazement, including the punk who butchered some weezer song on easy 2 seconds before me.

one kid said that i must play "these games" way too much. i said no, i've been playing the real deal for 13 years and a watered down version of the song on 4 generic pads isn't even fair :P

I love how the drum set is surrounded by tons of Guitar Hero stuff.

I saw this at best buy yesterday.... I can't believe how fucking loud the drums are. That's the one big thing I noticed - Hitting the drum pads? It's the loudest noise ever. It's fucktardedly loud!

Played all the songs, both drums and lead guitar at a local best buy, and I can honestly say now, I have no rhythm on the drums.

FYI, the bass pedal is ignored if it's not plugged in, or maybe the demo is setup to ignore it? Anyways, you're not penalized, so the opening half of wanted dead or alive your drummer just stands there and looks silly.

I have to say, the Fender guitar is SO MUCH NICER than the Gibson. The strum bar doesn't click it just pushes like they are using "leaf" switches instead of toggle switches, the result is amazing, and really fun to play with. the 5 position switch for effects is really cool, the effects only come through during power-up moves, but they sound amazing, even on a crummy 20" lcd tv.

Yeah, I am getting this when it comes out, come hell or high water.

Drums are loud, but I think they could be quieted down by setting up some big ass speakers and turning them up really loud, or wearing headphones or something.

Also the Fender is more solid feling, it's not as thick as the Gibson, and looks like it doesn't come apart easily, like it's 1 piece of plastic molded to shape where the Gibson is 2 hollow pieces of plastic that you could pry open with a screw driver.

The extra set of buttons at the other end of the neck are a nice touch too, but I found myself getting my hands in the wrong spot often since all the buttons blend together. Should just take some getting used too.

I visited my Best Buy based off these rumors and my co-workers' word of mouth. Me and my friend dominated with Weezer. I'm gonna go to work on Tuesday early as hell so I can get good Rock Band time before I have to clock in. Fucking sweet.
