When the Wii debuted a year ago, Nintendo put an entirely new demographic of gamers' undergarments in a twist over the simple yet extremely customizable Miis. The Miis were revolutionary to this extent, providing a basic and easy to use interface to creatively explore limitless avatar construction. What followed of course was an onslaught of personalized Miis made to mirror everyone from the entire cast of The Big Lebowski to your mom. Machinima was made, celebrities were caricatured, and your mom wept in utter confusion given the misplaced nature of her Nintendo identity.
But come on, that trend was soooo last 2006. Out with the Mii, in with the Rock Band avatar. Thanks to Harmonix, always keeping one step ahead of the rhythm game nation, the colorful and rock star savvy character creator allots a huge range of creative options within the proper Rock Band scope. For inspiration, check out my good mate Onionania's band Ace Attorney and the At Laws with Phoenix on the guitar, or some of the other fancy user creations found in the Harmonix community forums.
Now it's your turn folks, show off your very own Rock Band rock stars in the comments or fail!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Objection!
Maybe someone can do a Hellsing group...heh. ;O)

Incredible! I wish you had a photo of all the characters! Added Honest Abe to the gallery ... great stuff ;)
I remember when we were going through the clothes, though, I saw that one and was like, "Hey, it's like what Miles Edgeworth wears." Looks like somebody else thought the same thing.
sry i just have abe the actual band is on my friends hard drive
Mii's are different not because they are avatars, but because they are sustainable avatars that can be played through multiple games. Rock band avatars may be cool but are by no means anything like miis. Not to bash on them or anything, it's just like apples to apples that can be played on multiple games.
While I agree with you that customizable avatars have been around for quite a while, I have to disagree with some of your other points.
First of all, in comparison to MMORPG avatars the creative process to make Miis was oriented specifically toward the non-gamer demographic. Because these customization tools were not so particularly grounded in imitating realism, the imaginative potential of simple shapes allowed users of little to no experience to create characters of any variety. Rock Band capitalizes on this experience but within the Rock niche, which I is exciting, unique and has been creatively pursued by users as is demonstrated by the above characters.
Or maybe I just haven't seen The Venture Bros and Phoenix Wright running around in WOW lately. It's been a while.
That said, I'd buy RockBand just for this.
