Rock Band bundle cheaper than you thought, PS2 version drops this year

     Xbox 360

Despite the lack of an official announcement, we've known for quite some time now that we'd be able to purchase a Rock Band bundle of some sort this holiday. The bundle (which has appeared on just about every single retailers release list, yet never confirmed) was said to come with one guitar controller, one set of drums, and one USB mic, all for $199.99. Put $30 back into your piggy bank folks -- the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 bundles have been confirmed for a November 23 release by MTV's Multiplayer blog, and will cost $169.99.

Additionally, those who haven't been willing to hop into next-gen territory can rest easy, as the recently announced PlayStation 2 version of Rock Band also ships this year. PS2 owners can save themselves some loot and pick up their bundle for $159.99. Of course, this comes with at the loss of "weekly" downloadable content, one of Rock Band's strongest selling points versus its competition.

It's also been confirmed that the PS2 and PS3 versions of the bundle will indeed ship with a wireless guitar controller, while the Xbox 360 version will ship with a wired version. Wireless 360 guitars will not be available at launch, and there's no official word yet as to why, but they should be available at a later date.

Wow.

I really thought Rock Band would be at least $200. I hope that this causes people to buy the full bundle because that is what the game is designed for - full band play.

Looking forward to getting this in early '08 when I have a next-gen system other than Wii.

@ Mxyzptlk:

The issue with the Wii version, imo, is that DLC is really limited. However, since the PS2 version encounters the same issue (no one owns the PS2 HDD), a Wii version should exist as well.

But what of the bass? I'm playing bass, and I'm not included in the bundle? What are they trying to say about me? Why don't they say it to my face?

I'm in my trailer for the next hour. Don't even talk to me.

@ Variable Gear: Exactly, if it's coming out for PS2, there's no excuse. And hopefully they can figure out a way to access the SD card slot still.

I want to know how much the mic and drum kit will cost.

@ Grim:

There is no mic and drum kit. :D

@ AltDelete:
The guitar peripheral also works for the bass (guitar)! I want to hear guitar players bitching that there's no guitar included, only a bass. :D

Anyone know if the wireless GH3 controller will work on th 360 version?

The Rock Band controller is better, even if it's wired.

I would be more wanting to know if it runs on GH III even.

Also I need to know if the PS2 stuff will work on PS3, so I could get it now for PS2, and maybe later for PS3 in the future.

Already have some money on the bundle. Now I can afford Kane and Lynch as well as Assasins Creed, Mass Effect, CoD4, HL2 orange box GH3, SSBm, UR MR GAY etc etc... damn. Who wants to knock a bank over with me?

The wireless guitars aren't available at launch? I'm sorry, this is sounding more and more fucked up. It's bad enough that I'm going to have to buy the guitars separately. I will not be buying this until I can get my wireless guitars, even if I have to buy them separately.

This is unbelievable! I mean, shit, if $169.99 is the price, that’s just like $20 more than Guitar Hero III with an extra controller! Hm...I’m going to have to reconsider my (until-now automatic) GH III purchase...

Also, I’m glad that for once, the PS3 owners don’t get fucked over (like with the framerates of EA Sports games) and instead, we’re getting something that 360 owners aren’t. Wireless Rock Band-ing = awesome!
