Well, it's about damned time. Harmonix and MTV Games have launched the Rock Band music store for Rock Band 2 Wii. Finally.

Wii wannabe rockers can pick download 50 tracks, including the 20 free bonus tracks. The remaining 30 songs are only a portion of the hundreds of tracks already available to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users, but it's a start. Yes, there are plans for the Wii music store to match that of what is available on the PS3 and Xbox 360 ... it just won't happen overnight.

Each track can be purchased individually for 200 Wii Points. There will be no discounted "track pack" bundles of multiple tracks, due mostly to how the Wii Shop allows content to be delivered. Speaking of which, your storage solution? An SD card, baby. Who'd have guessed it? For optimal performance, use SanDisk's Rock Band 2-branded SD card, of course. It's magical, and the only SD card that rocks.

The full list of available tracks can be found after the jump.

The 30 downloadable tracks for purchase include:

ARTIST TITLE

Well, at least they delivered on what they promised. Awesome for people who only have a Wii.

So what are the compatibility issues with Rock Band 2? Will my Guitar Hero III guitar work with it? I'm definitely getting Guitar Hero: Metallica. Will the World Tour drums work with both Rock Band 2 and GH: Metallica? Or will the Rock Band 2 drums work with both?

Man, this is a headache.

Hey cool. At least all the Wii songs are decent on launch. My only concern is... How big would all these songs end up being after all is said and done? Downloading them all seems like it would swallow up the 2GB card and then some.

got all the free songs and 3 pay 1s, ended up having to delete my gh:wt songs, but ordered a 2gb card for the rb2 songs.songs i got were Jimmy Buffett, The Who, and Blondie.
@dvddesign:the songs are average 200 blocks, some under, some over, but the game needs you to have 200 system memory for them
@dangayle: you can use the gh controllers on rb2, but not the first 1 or track packs, no rb controllers on gh though

Sorry, Da5Star, however in my defence it is very confusing. Especially considering the GHIII/RB compatibility was different across the consoles. :)

Thanks dadudebob, guess I'll buy the GH drums then.

i forgot to mention how smooth the downloading went, it only asks once when you start up the game if you wanna move the songs to sd, unlike gh:wt. the transfer rate is so much faster on rb, gh takes forever:(
@dangale: im not sure you can buy the gh wt instruments separately, i made that mistake when i got the game only, i would of liked the new guitar but owell, i guess ill wait

@dadudebob:

The Best Buys in my area are only selling the GH:WT guitars. I have yet to find the Wii drum kit except at Wal-Mart which I refuse to support. So, I would assume that the drum kit is available separately as well. I already have the GH3 guitar, so I opted to just buy the game. Those additional fret buttons don't really justify a $60 purchase to me.

They're probably easing into it because they're not sure how much money they will make off of Wii owners for DLC.

Nah, they are getting the rest up, they already said they were in an interview snippet Samit posted a little while ago. I think this is just to get the ball rolling and have something there sooner rather than later.

Downloaded two of the free songs, might pull out some cash for some Weezer. Good news, overall.
