Robomodo shows you how to actually play Tony Hawk Ride photo

Hey, you're doing it wrong!

Developer Robomodo thinks that maybe you don't know how to play its game, Tony Hawk Ride. The Chicago-based developer has put a slew of "how-to" videos on its official YouTube account, including such gems as "Navigation" and "Basic Grinds."

In my recent review, I found the game and accompanying board to be frustrating to use and non-responsive. In short, I didn't have much fun. After dumping hours into the game and receiving little to no rewards, I doubt I'll go back, even though I appreciate Robomodo's assistance.

But with many of you potentially getting this game for Christmas (I've seen more than one parent picking this up at Target and Walmart), you might benefit from a little extracurricular help.

Once again, it's never a good sign if you have to explain how your game works after it's out.

No one was surprised at the poor reviews.

I sorta expected, I don't know, the game itself to explain how to play it.

When you can't figure out how to play even after reading the instructions and playing the tutorial...yeah, you've got problems.

And here I thought you were supposed to stand on the board.

Man, I feel stupid.

Ok so I didn't read the story correctly, and thought Robomodo was a random website that took it upon themselves to help people.

This is the DEVELOPER?! Too funny. It reminds me of the Brutal Legend "you're doing it wrong" letter.

They should patch this game to be played with a controller or just pull it of the shelves. Epic fail.

I was kind of hoping the full tutorial was him using his hands. He does get on the board to actually ride though. Still looks extremely not fun.

Some of the things he covers, such as how to break the rear beam, seems to signify that many of the reviewers were not getting that your hand did not have to touch the back sensor. If you look at reviews where you can actually see the reviewer playing, and look at the demo's, it seems the reviewers were doing it wrong.

Since I don't have the game it leaves open some options. Review copies, or even retail copies did not explain well enough how to break the sensor beams. Review copies did not come with instructions at all.

Where is the failure here? Reviewers doing it wrong, not really being agile people, or do they have some special board that just works? The other odd thing I heard a lot of was that people fell off the skateboard ... well that's what happens on a skateboard ... If you are falling off of this, maybe you are lacking in dexterity.

Shouldn't the tutorial cover this?

@zer0faults: From what I understand, the game didn't ship to reviewers with the "proper" instructions as this video would entail. And the in-game tutorial didn't cover it either. I dunno, maybe it was a failure to communicate from the developers, but to play the game with your hands and not your feet as intended, shouldn't it be better labeled "Tony Hawk Hands-On" or something? Even the commercial has the skater on his feet apparently playing a flawless game.

Maybe this is just a big statement. "You can't skate better than Tony Hawk and this is proof." *rolleyes*

Pretty sure the idea was to play with your feet like a real skateboard, isn't that what they said at E3?

The people that probably need to see this won't, and the people that do see it already know they're just covering up for making a piece of shit game.

Reminds me of Lair developers teaching people how to play their games.

@ Zer0faults - and yet, I've never seen a reviewer get it wrong when just using a regular controller :) coincidence?

I blame it on video game reviewers obesity. Its a real problem, people, kills million of bloggers every year.
