In my mind, EA and Stainless Games are doing a good thing by making sure RISK: Factions isn't a simple, soulless translation of a board game like all too many Xbox LIVE Arcade titles are. With a playable cat faction, and the type of art you would never associate with Risk, they are certainly on the right path.

And the great thing is, you don't have to enjoy these fresh additions. As we have since learned, the classic board game will be fully integrated, as will the Risk 2008 ruleset, if you're into that sort of thing. Everyone wins this way.

These first trailers don't contain any in-game action. However, what they are lacking in gameplay, they make up for in cats. The videos seem like a good indication of what RISK: Factions is aiming for; worth a watch, in other words.

As long as there is just plain vanilla RISK in there they can do whatever the fuck they want with the other stuff.

I'm always interested in a game that does not take itself seriously.

Cats as a faction in videogames you do understand that this could be the next big thing in cartoon like games right ?

@MkShiranui: I personally find the idea of the cats to be fit for the lolwtf-factor in the game, if it had all kinds of animals it would be very thematic, imo.

@jumbo I totally agree

this is the first I heard of that and I am stoaked. I was worried when I first saw the cats I am sure they will be fine but i have been waiting for this game for years. I would hate to have it ruined

This should be interesting. I'm interested in a XBLA version of RISK, anyway.

@ hpv-

As it always has been.

THE TOUCH. THE FEEEEEEEL. THE FABRIC OF OUR LIVES. THE TOUCH. THE FEEL OF COTTON. THE FABRIC OF OUR LIIIVES.

Other than that, it didn't look half bad. I'll keep an eye on this.

Just make sure you can save at any time during MP games. Otherwise... no good.

Jumbo has the right of it. As long as they've got the original, plain Risk, I don't see anyone having any problems with whatever else they do. The fact that the other stuff they are doing looks ace is just a bonus!
