Risen 3: Titan Lords

Risen 3's teaser trailer looks vaguely like Dante's Inferno

12:45 PM on 04.18.2014

The official teaser trailer for Risen 3: Titan Lords is out now, and it involves a lot of pretty CG animation and generic combat. It's got all the hallmarks of a traditional Western RPG: darkness, big swords, and copious amounts of chainmail. It's a regular Berserk! I kid. It actually reminds me of Dante's Inferno somehow, at least in aesthetics alone. Curious.

Normally, that would get me all hot and bothered since I love fantasy settings and whatnot, but unlike Risen 2: Dark Waters and its droves of piratey goodness, this trailer doesn't immediately grab my attention. I mean, if you told me you could draw runes and stuff a la Arx Fatalis, I'd probably be more interested, but right now? Nah.

I can only assume the subtitle Titan Lords refers to the Titan Wars, the Big Bad for all intents and purposes of this installment of Risen. The world has been forsaken by all the gods after the Titan Wars tore it asunder. A young warrior faces a new threat from the shadows (I see you hiding over there, The Rasmus) and his soul is pilfered in the process. With the help of the banned Mages and their protective Guardians, he can embark on a journey to get his soul back, or he can side with one of the other guilds to accomplish the same goal, hints the flavor text on the official website. So it's kind of like What Dreams May Come, except it's "your" soul you have to reclaim, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. probably won't be around to crack jokes.

I need to see more before passing my official judgment, so wow me, Risen 3!

Piranha wants to go back to its roots for Risen 3

Piranha Bytes went off in a different direction with its pirate-centric Risen 2: Dark Waters and that didn't sit well with some series fans. For the next game, Risen 3: Titan Lords, the studio claims it has gone back to its ...more

Risen 3's Demon Hunters faction sounds like the one to side with

First came the CGI trailer for Risen 3: Titan Lords, and now, screenshots. The one above? My favorite of the pack by a wide margin. Some of the others are oddly blinding. The game features three factions and one of them is ca...more

Yes, Risen 3: Titan Lords, I'll watch your CGI trailer

Here's the extended CGI trailer for Risen 3: Titan Lords that was first teased last month. I still don't know how Brittany managed to write that many words covering it, but now I'm thinking about What Dreams May Come, again,...more

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell leaves no deadly sin unchecked

Johnny Gat's not a good man. Powerful, but not good. That's why he uses each and every of the seven deadly sins to send all of those already dead to the after-afterlife. Most of them look like they deserve it, to be fair. Especially those nipple-rubbing demons.more

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell takes us on a fly-by tour of the underworld

Sprout some wings and take an aerial tour of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell and New Hades with Johnny Gat acting as a murderous guide. When he's not perusing the underworld via an overhead view, he's running down demons in his rambulance or firing swaths of rockets from his armchair. Our promised musical number hasn't shown up yet, but so far, everything is so wonderfully Saints Row.more

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell was inspired by Disney movies

I've played and enjoyed all of the Saints Row games to date, but wonder how much longer this can last. How much more ridiculous can the series get, and even if there is room to up the insanity, do we even want that? Where Vol...more
