Rise of the Argonauts video demonstrates meaningful choices photo

Whenever I think of choices in RPGs, my hope is that the choice will be between stabbing a monster in the eye or cutting its head completely off. Judging from the footage, it looks like that might actually be a real choice. But, the video that Codemasters released recently is not exactly about stabbing things. Instead, it's about the meaningful choices that players will make throughout Jason’s journey in Rise of the Argonauts.

The choices that can be made in the game are never exactly simple. As lead writer Rico Sablan points out in the video, every action and choice will have an impact. It could be as simple as choosing which patron god you want to favor or the ramifications of being a jerk to villains or NPCs. Some choices players will make may even dramatically change the narrative of the game.

Honestly, I’m really excited about this game. It looks like it could really bust up the stagnant RPG mold spectacularly. Although, my real question is, at this point, what in the hell do Jason and his friends eat on a daily basis? There’s no way phyllo dough, feta, and lamb could give a person a pair of quadriceps like that. Maybe instead of the gym, I need to start plowing fields with flamethrower-oxen or something.

Hit the break for the video and find out what the choices in Rise of the Argonauts are all about.

Seems a lot like it's just a clone of the Mass Effect conversation system, but with less choices, and you can't play the way you want without pissing off the gods, you have to spread the choices out amongst them all. Seems kinda...retarded =/

Mass Effect's conversation system was a big load of balls on closer inspectin. Most of the options were a simple good/evil choice masked in multiple options that lead to only one or two actual lines of dialogue. If this thing actually delivers on what Mass Effect pretends to give, Argonauts can take all the cues it wants.

It seems like aligning yourself with one God at the risk of angering another one is kind of the point. Sure you could go about keeping all of them happy but that might not net you the rewards that leaning toward a specific deity would.

Yeah, color me unimpressed. Seems like any big RPG released promises the same thing: Radiant AI, Bioware their 3 choices ( good bad and romance ) and lets not even talk Fable here. In the end they are all fairly linear, fairly superficial, the character development is laughable, the dialog choices are stupid...

I am just bitter and jaded and don't believe a thing, at least JRPGs deliver great linear stories and don't promise things that cannot be delivered ( until AI is smart enough to respond to things you would actually type in.....yep thats way out there but its the only way )

"can I ally with hermaphrodite?"

I have always wanted the choice to NOT kill my enemies and possibly recruit them into my ever-growing army.

There has been many times where I'm fighting a boss character and I just can't shake the frustration of having to kill them when clearly they would make a great contribution to my party.

@Super Dave

Seriously? A 300 joke?

Such a shame that such an excellent movie is most remembered for a line that meme spouting retards just can't let go.

And this game looks amazing.
