The previous E3 trailer for SEGA's Rise of Nightmares wasn't very good to say the least, but now there's finally a trailer that shows the actual game. What a world of technological marvels we live in.
The trailer shows you that the game is basically House of the Dead for Kinect, providing a huge Overkill vibe -- without the 70s grindhouse theme, but with the 70s film effect. And just like that, Rise of Nightmares became my most-anticipated Kinect game that isn't Dance Central.
Color me surprised! But if someone at SEGA doesn't include a scene where you have to reach out your hand and open a door yourself, fully aware that something scary will be lurking behind that door in the dark like in every single American B-horror out there, I'll be very disappointed. Don't let me down, SEGA.
Cool looking trailer. However, what makes this so special for Kinect? It looks like the same gameplay mechanics that rail shooters have had for years. Perhaps head tracking where you're finally in control of the camera a little bit?
Blurb from said link - "Explore and investigate - Navigate through Viktor's castle with free movement control, uncover the secrets held within and delve deeper into his the mind of a madman."
Sounds good to me and may be just what I needed to push me towards a new Xbox S with the Kinect. This and Steel Battalion. :D
It looks good, but nothing was sustained gameplay and there was no indication of how the controls work for that game.
Even if it isn't on-rails, the controls could still be incredibly unreponsive and just a complete pain in the ass.
It looks good. But anyone that isn't skeptical is setting themselves up for a major disappointment. It can be good, but you'd best lower expectations. I'm calling it now.
Rail shooters aren't inherently bad. The problem with kinect is everything that isn't some casual game will likely get stuck on rails because of the lack of control you have. This still looks interesting though.
Rise of Nightmares, a core game: because those dirty casuals wouldn't even begin to understand the sophistication of gameplay concepts such as pointing and shooting/stabbing/whatever.
ohh look a bunch of kinect haters and retards bash the game that they never seen or know nothing about.
yeah, let's forget about the fact that the game was playable on E3 and it is freeroam brawler from the House of the Dead creators,
let's forget all the glowing previous who were constantly praising the game - including very simple and intuitive controls,
let's also forget the fact that Rise of Nightmares has been mentioned on many Best of E3 lists as one of the most fun/surprising titles,
Game looks good, has a very old school, crazy, Silent Hill/House of the Dead thing going for it. Definite first purchase if I ever get a Kinect after it comes out.
Adapting light-gun series for use on a touch screen doesn't sound immediately appealing, but I'll try most things once. After all, The House of the Dead: Overkill was enjoyable for what it was back in 2009 on the Wii. F...

The House of the Dead: Overkill is one of my favorite Wii games. Not because it's of the quality of its gameplay or its narrative depth, but because it's one of the most gloriously stupid productions ever committed to disc. F...
