Looks like Kinect has yet another "LOOK KINECT HAS HARDCORE GAMES ON IT" title to add to the tiny basket. Joining the on-rails Star Wars game and the on-rails Child of Eden is this brand new horror title from Sega, known ominously as Rise of Nightmares.
"Rise of Nightmares offers a spine-tingling horror experience which uses the innovative new controls of Kinect to give players new encounters filled with fearful anticipation and terror," boasts Sega. "Using their whole body the player will experience fear and tension as never before in this first person horror adventure."
I wonder if it'll be on rails.
Rise of Nightmares is gearing up for a 2011 release. We'll have more for you when Sega deigns to share it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm sensing a huge flop for Kinect. Well hopefully. It's the only way they'll learn.
I would imagine that the full body controls would only pull you out of the experience more. There is nothing to grip, so if you are swinging a weapon or trying to shake a monster off of you, you're really just gripping at air. At least with a controller you can squeeze and mash buttons with all of your might, because you are doing it for your survival.
To be honest, todays TGS announcements have made me want a Kinect.
I don't think with whatever its showing or the constant ridicule and disdain by gamers, the Kinect will be as successful as Microsoft wants. I mean, its the butt of jokes for our Jim Sterling.
It's not like there's any buttons or something that will allow you to move around.
What a joke.
Haha..yes it does.
@Xbros
Unfortunately that is true. I fear Japan has been misguided by Microsoft's attempt at their dubious and shaky Motion control scheme.
Seriously though it's good to see developers taking a shine to it and trying to develop original games for it. I mean at least so far they don't appear to be generic outside of the launch titles.
While I have no doubt you'll be playing Killzone 3 and Socom 4 with the Move INITIALLY, something tells me you'll switch back to the normal Dualshock after a bit of time. I can't see you actually competing well online with games like that using a motion controller.
I love horror games so this interests me!
I personally cannot fucking wait for 'Child of Eden'.
This could be extremely well done, between this, Steel Batallion, Child of Eden and some of the other games mentioned above, my Kinect purchase is pretty much solidified.
FFS, most of the Move exclusive titles are casual crap too, should I judge the entire Move library on The Shoot and The Fight? Or that magician game where all you do is flick the remote constantly? All the 'hardcore' shit on Move is just a standard game with pointer controls. I can play all your hardcore games with a standard controller, thereby eliminating any need for Move.
I'll give you Kung Fu Rider though...
There's really only so much you can do with a classic controller which is why we have light guns, why we have DDR pads, why we have a Rock Band kit. I'm not afraid of trying something new and I'm excited to see what developers will come up with when given a new way to play.
Lighten up, people
Squeeeeeee!
Oh kinect? *shrugs*
Micheal Jackson the dancing game, move controlls, now you can slouch at the corner and do this *swing arm to the side*...amazing
I'm with you; I actually think Kinect has quite a few games I'm at least interested in checking out. Dance Central, for one. And now with this, Steel Battalion, Codename D and Project Draco. I think MS is doing a better job of delivering new experiences than Sony is with the Move.
THE SWEATY HIPPI BENEATH YOR ARMPITS
- to shrug one's shoulders - the Move experience to be anouced soon
Has there been any articles or news or a statement from anyone saying that kinect can't be used with a controller?
because it is too obvious in the journalism that your bias and hatred towards kinect and titles is reflected each time you post something. Just saying.
no, just give em time, the penny will drop.
Your the one who is biased! Jim recently tested a secret game wich will drop with the release of kinect. Its about sitting on a couch and doing nothing, first who MOVEs a muscle looses.
Also, you can "Swat open the door" and "Swat the clue to solve the swatting puzzle"
Sounds dildolicious, you should develop videogames, cant wait. pew pew
for what?
I just wish that Microsoft would look at the huge success of the Reach launch, realise they need more games like THAT, and stop beating a horse that died in mid 2008.
That's okay, Afraid of Monsters wasn't a very good name either but it scared the bejesus out of me. I don't see this doing the same, though.
comes housed in a black plastic case with stainless steel lugs at each side. The black
wristband is nicely crafted from leather, and in case you plan on banging your new watch
around a bit, the display is protected by a durable, scratch-resistant mineral crystal
face.
