Carnivorous greetings

I was befuddled when I received a mysterious postcard from Uruguay. Who do I know in Uruguay? The envelope felt thick, so I was anxious to see what was inside. The contents were increasingly peculiar: an outstretched hand calling out for help from a circus tent. I played along.

Then ... chomp!

Never saw it coming.

It just goes to show: you don't have to spend a fortune to do clever gaming PR. Kudos to Kalio. It just takes some out of the box envelope thinking. The promotion belongs to an indie game called RingRun Circus, a dizzying puzzle platforming title coming to iOS later this year. Check out their game trailer below. I'll be on the lookout for the lovely Nina during GDC!

La-Mulana was regarded by some as the hardest game ever. This isn't going to change, though Nigoro's Takami Naramura wants it to be slightly more intuitive so perhaps all those deaths don't lead to warranted frustration and ...more

Open world platformer/space shooter A.N.N.E is a retro buffet

Really, why even play clearly deficient retro games? I mean, where are the shmup segments in Metroid? Where are the open world segments in Contra? Where are the line segments in a bisected triangle? A.N.N.E. is one part platformer, one part shmup, one part RPG. And this year at PAX A.N.N.E. has all its systems in play. Maybe we'll all get to play it this year.more

Addiction allegory Spate's soundtrack is available now

Spate made a bit of a stir with its release last month, if not for its attempt to tackle themes more mature than shooting bullets at beefy dudes, then for its dated representation of absinthe as it exists and is understood to...more
