I am a fan of Grand Theft Auto. I am a HUGE fan of Ricky Gervais. Put the two together and what do you get? Pure, unbridled happiness, my friends. The politically incorrect comic will be appearing in GTA IV, sharing both his voice, and his motion capture work!
Gervais will be found in the Liberty City comedy club, where he will not only be performing material from his recent Fame tour (great show, get the DVD folks!), but three minutes of brand new stuff just for the game. Isn't that awesome? I think that's awesome. You should too.
"It's a first, which always interests me," stated Gervais. "It was shot in New York, and I got to wear a tight Lycra suit as part of the digital process. That wasn't so good. Unfortunately they captured the whole horror, except I look slightly tougher.
"It's seriously a big deal though. Games have outsold Hollywood for the past few years so it's nice to be a small part of that."
I didn't think I could be more eager to play GTA IV, but Rockstar has found a way to make this game even more of a neccessity. Well done, Rockstar. Well done indeed.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Like I've said to the last 20 news articles about GTA IV...I'm already sold!
Are you having a laugh? Is he having a laugh!?
Seriously, Ricky Gervais is awesome. Anyone who disagrees is WRONG as far as I'm concerned. Especially someone with an anime bunny avatar. ;P
I second the hope that we'll be able to run his character over... repeatedly...
It'd be awesome if you'd do work for him, it would be nonsense, but I'd lol my ass off.
Anyone who hasn't done so already, buy his Podcast on iTunes, they are extremely funny.
Jim, I assume you've listend to his Podcast? The one with Karl Pilkington?
Seriously Im considering cancelling my 8 month old pre-order cause of his inclusion, there better be an option to kill him.
As for the people who were talking about radio personalities for GTA IV, I'd be happy to see Stephen Wright reprise his role from Reservoir Dogs as the best DJ ever.
Give me Frankie Boyle over that asshole any day.
The whole awkward thing is, to a degree, the very point of his humor. David Brent and, to a lesser extent, his Extras character (I forget his name) were both awkward, pathetic, incredibly unlucky men. One thing I've always loved about his humor is that he manages to fairly accurately capture the selfish, uncomfortable, inadequate side of human nature. It helps to laugh at it, especially when those things are such a big aspect of, uh, my life. :)
ricky gervias even though i dont like him has worldwide impact he is know on both us and UK/europe so it makes sense having him there... theres no point in having a UK only comedian like peter kay on there as their acts are regional and thus missing the mark.
i can only hope there are tonnes of side events other than the comedy club like this... i cant wait now :D
To each thier own :)
Anyone who doesn't like The Office (UK) is a wank. It's the same for people who don't like Arrested Development. Out of the people I know, it's only the brain-dead laughter-track sit-com loving retards who don't like those two shows.
Do you also hate puppies? and freedom?
I bet you do.
David Brent + GTA = WIN
